How to Wear a Fur Vest

Ladies, I have been on a hunt for a fur vest ever since they came into style over a year ago.  I can't even begin to tell you how many I have tried on only to see my reflection in the mirror and scream.  Most of them either made me look a gorilla or Peter Cottontail.

Many of the fur vests on the market are very thick and shaggy, which adds a lot of extra pounds and made me look like I was dressed to go on a date with King Kong.   And when I tried on a white shaggy vest, lets just say I felt ready to hop around town hiding Easter Eggs in children's backyards.

But FINALLY, after trying on numerous styles of fur vests, I found one I liked at Macy's!  And the best news is, I got mine for only $19.99, which was the Black Friday price, but I bought it on Wednesday night!   We were in the store late the night before Thanksgiving and they were setting up for their weekend sale.  Because they started signing for their sale early, they also took their prices down early too!   Lucky me!  I didn't have to fight any crowds to get this amazing vest at a fabulous price!  Note to myself:  "Remember to go to Macy's the night before Thanksgiving next year!".

So why does this fur vest work for me when so many others did not?  For one, it's a soft, short, luxurious faux fur.  The long haired furs really give that 'gorilla' look whereas the short hair ones are more like the fur one would find on a fur coat.

Secondly, because the hair is short and there is a cable knit sweater back, the vest is thin;  thus not making me look heavier on top than I already am.

This vest is also lined with a beautiful, luxurious satin lining.  I turned the collar down on mine when I wore it to show this lovely lining off.

This faux fur is so soft!  I couldn't stop running my hands down it when I was wearing it for I loved the way it felt.  And, it didn't shed!  That's a sign of great quality, because a lot of the shaggy fur vests out there do shed!

For jewelry, I wore a solid gold bracelet, and my aspen leaf necklace I picked up on one of my Colorado vacations.

It was a beautiful 45 degree day when I wore this vest, so I only wore a thin, sheer, long sleeve shirt under it with a camisole.  There was only a couple of times when I felt a little chilled and wished I would have brought a scarf a long with me for the day.  But then all I had to do was zip my vest up, and I was fine.

Since fur vests are so bulky, I find the trick is to wearing them without looking heavier is to keep everything else in your outfit thinner and slimmer.  In my case, I kept the top for body skimming and I wore straight leg jeans on my bottom.

I chose to carry my fringe bag from Stitch Fix because I liked how the off-white color coordinated with the satin and knit portion of the vest.

My Liverpool Colleen Straight Leg Jeans are also from my latest fix, and my suede wedge booties are from J.C. Penney.

The back of the vest is a cable knit sweater.  I really like just having the fur in front of the vest and not in the back.  It makes me look thinner.

This vest is still available HERE, although not at the price I got it for.  It is a Juniors size, so I bought a medium for reference.

So what about you?  What do you think of the fur vest trend?  Have you tried on or purchased any?  I'd love to hear from you!

Have a great day!  Amy
