Opposites Attract: Why You Need Both Dark and Cream Jeans for Fall and Ageless Style

Ageless Style is a monthly style challenge and link up for women of all ages.   Each month we pick a different theme and style an outfit based on that theme.  This month's theme is "Jeans"  and was picked by Jodie!

When it comes to building your fall wardrobe this season, the old adage "Opposites Attract" rings true.  As the leaves change, our style instincts change with them and usually pull us towards two entirely different ends of the color spectrum--the rich, dark, grounding colors like indigo, and the soft, luxurious warmth of toasted creams and ivory.  Instead of choosing a side this season, embrace the duality.  Both dark and cream jeans serve as great anchor pieces for fall fashion.

Cream jeans are the secret weapon against autumn monotony.  They bring an unexpected brightness on gloomy days  perfectly complimenting earth tones like olive, rust, chocolate brown or pea green as I am wearing.

My crochet pea green vest was a rare treasure TJMaxx find.  I oohed with delight when I found this baby on the rack.  Although vests and crochet items are trending this season, this piece is so unique and pretty I'm sure it will be in my closet for the rest of my life.

I did find the pea green color difficult to match with anything else in my wardrobe, but anything neutral like this creamy top will work.  I can see wearing this vest with the dark denim jeans pictured below too.

My burgundy suede bag is new this season too.  It is by Liz Clairborne.  If you buy only one new fall item this year, pick up something suede whether it's a new bag, or new suede loafers, it will instantly update any fall look.

On the other end of the spectrum is dark denim.  Dark jeans are the ultimate canvas for rich textures.  They effortlessly anchor heavy cable-knits, dark leather jackets, and suede boots, while instantly dressing up an outfit for evening outings.  The key is matching the deep denim tones with equally rich autumnal colors.

Here I paired high-waisted, wide-leg dark indigo jeans with a fitted camel blazer.  The fitted look on top balances out the wide leg jeans.

Wrap a scarf around your neck for those chilly mornings, protect your head and face from the sun with a dark brown fedora, and slip on some suede shoes and you are good to go for a fall excursion like me!

Ultimately, navigating fall fashion isn't about choosing between moody darks and soft neutrals--it's embracing the duality of both.  By welcoming both deep indigos and rich cream denim into your fall wardrobe, you unlock an endless spectrum of outfit possibilities using all of nature's fall colors.   As you step into crisper days ahead, let your wardrobe embrace this stylish duality.  After all, when it comes to crafting the perfect autumn look, it is the contrast that truly makes your outfit unforgettably fall.

Which is your favorite fall denim style?  I'd love to hear from you!

Have a Great Day!  Amy
