Black Moto Vest Outfit

I bought this black Moto vest in the early fall and I just got around to wearing it now.  I've been trying to work more vests into my wardrobe for I love the extra layer for covering up love handles...a product of growing older I'm afraid.  I don't want my outfits to always consist of blazers, cardigans, and outer shirts (which a lot of older women fall into the habit of always wearing), so a vest is a nice alternative.

This is a Moto vest, so it adds a bit of edginess to my outfit,  which is one reason I had a hard time styling it.  I tried it with all black and felt it looked to "Biker Girlish", then I tried it my grey jeans, and that looked o.k., but I seemed to like it best with blue jeans.  I've also seen other girls wear this vest over dresses.  I really like that look, especially if you have a flower print girly dress that you might want to edge up a bit.

My vest is by a.n.a and is sold at J.C. Penney HERE. I bought a size small since that is my usual size in the a.n.a line, but I wish I would have bought a medium.  The vest runs a bit small:   I can zip it up, but it is tight.  All the on-line reviews said the vest ran small too.

Underneath my vest I wore another a.n.a top:  a black/charcoal stripe 3/4 sleeve textured knit top.  I absolutely love this top!  It's so comfortable, and it is also a size small and fits me perfectly.  I like a.n.a. tops for my body type because they always allow so much extra room in the stomach area.
This top is still available HERE and comes in three other colors too.  I wish I would have bought it in the reddish color as well!  Hm mm, maybe I'll find it on clearance soon!

Because the top is a bit sheer, I wore a lace trimmed camisole underneath.  I also liked the touch of lace to help bring a bit of femininity to an otherwise more masculine outfit.

I wore this vest before taking pictures, and I didn't notice until after the photo shoot that it wrinkled in the back. I'm not happy about that.  I don't like clothes that wrinkle easy.   I'm assuming that happened from sitting in the car or a chair most of the morning.  It is made of linen.

My jeans are Kut From The Kloth distressed boyfriend from StitchFix.

For footwear, I chose some old ankle boots from Famous Footwear that I've had for years.

Even though this vest was hard to style because of the dark color and edginess, I really like it as an alternative to the more traditional, conservative vests available to older women. When I was reading the reviews of this product on JCP I noticed one of the reviewers was in her sixties and she wrote:

Despite my advanced age, I still favor younger looking fashions without going too extreme...The A.N.A brand fits the bill perfectly. bought the vest to go with the jogger pants, which I absolutely love!
Pros Great contemporary look!

Ha-ha!   Love it!  Glad to know I'm not the only one!

There was a lot of silver hardware in the vest, so I accessorized with silver jewelry that was  a bit edgy.

And as always, I carried my black bucket bag from Express....I know I show it to you all a lot, but it just goes with everything!

I'd love to hear your thoughts of other ways I could wear this vest so I could get more use out of it.  I'm always open to new, creative ideas, so please share in the comments below.

Have a great day!  Amy

  9. I love that moto vest Amy. I did some shopping at JC Penney the other day and also bought a shearling vest among other things. I think I saw tour fur+sweater back vest that you own too and I liked it. I might have to buy it.
