Our local telephone company had a photography contest. The winning photograph would be placed on the cover of the 2009 telephone directory and the winner would receive a cordless telephone and a calling card! The only requirement was to submit a photograph of Buffalo County. Well guess who won? ME!!!! I was so happy! I never owned a cordless phone before and it was such an honor to have my photograph chosen.
This waterfall is right below my backyard if you can believe it. The home I live in was built by a man who built and ran a flour mill over these falls. The mill was destroyed in a flood, but the foundation is still there. The falls are actually quite bigger than they appear in the photograph. The depth of the water at the foot of the falls is about 8 or 9 feet. My kids grew up swimming in this waterfall, everyday, all summer long. They tied a rope to a tree and swing out above the falls and 'drop' in. What memories. The sound of the waterfall can be heard in my yard and inside my house all summer long. Its so peaceful and relaxing. However, many overnight visitors who aren't use to the sound, find it difficult to get use to, but they adjust eventually. You can't see the falls from my yard, but you can see the river. My home is built high up on a hill, and although the falls are only a few feet below my house, because of the trees and the height of the hill, its difficult to see the falls. But we sure enjoy the sound and the maintenance-free swimming pool! LOL!
Till tomorrow, Amy
