Even though fall is not one of my favorite seasons, I do appreciate it's color and my husband and I try to spend as much as time as possible soaking up the last few days of warm weather and enjoying the gorgeous foliage. Every weekend until the last leaf drops, we venture out and go for a fall drive and find someplace pretty to hike.
On this day it was a beautiful sunny day with the temperatures in the upper sixties to lower seventies. However, it was also Sunday, so I had to find something I could wear to church and also be comfortable hiking in (after I changed my shoes of course), so this is what I wore.
Most churches are super casual these days, so I decided to wear Bermuda shorts. The dark wash denim is more polished than a faded wash, and the length of the shorts made them church appropriate. By adding a pair of dress shoes and some jewelry, I was able to dress the look up quite a bit.
I have to admit I was never a fan of Bermuda shorts. My legs are my best feature, so I never felt the need to cover them up. However, there are occasions, like this one, where Bermuda shorts are more appropriate than short ones so when I saw this pair on clearance at Walmart for $3.00 I scooped them up. I also grabbed a white pair and a light wash pair...so I'm all set for next summer!
I paired my Bermuda shorts with a white and grey plaid shirt (old, JCP, last seen HERE), and a long burgundy cardigan (old, JCP, last seen HERE).
I only wore the cardigan to church and out-to-lunch, and then it came off. It was way too warm to wear it the rest of the day.
Because we were hiking, I carried my black back pack bag (old, Kmart).
I know everyone is wearing booties now, and I am trying to incorporate them in to my fall outfits as well, but most days it's still too hot so I throw on a pair of sandals instead. The way I look at it, in a few more weeks this beautiful warm weather will be gone, and I will have five months to wear booties, so why not show off my lovely pedicure a bit more longer?
And if your wondering what the outfit looked like without the sweater and wedges, here are a couple of pictures of me hiking. It got way too hot for the sweater, so I left it in the car, and I switched out the dress shoes for white sneakers.
So what about you, have you been able to get out and enjoy the beautiful colors yet? I'd love to hear from you!
Have a Great Day! Amy

Thanks Lauren.
DeleteWow, such beautiful scenery! I love how you incorporated a little bit of summer and fall together in this look. The colors of nature paired with the colors of your look are all so perfect. Hope you have a nice week!

Thanks Shauna! I was amazed at how much color there was so early in the season. And we were only at 25% color so far. Yes, I love how fall fashion colors echo the colors of nature as well.
DeleteLove the mix of oxblood with this gorgeous plaid top! Perfect transitional look into fall. :)

Thanks Katherine, it is a good transitional look for me...the shorts are more practical than long jeans and blanket scarves. The calendar may say October, but the temps are still saying summer!
DeleteThese photos are really nice, but the train tracks do scare me (hubby works for the RR and I occasionally hear some scary stories).
ReplyDeleteNice outfit, love how you added the cardigan to dress up the outfit, and it's such a pretty color too! I'm not a fan of Bermuda shorts either, I think they look nice on others, but I never like how they look on me. But who can turn down that great deal and there are always occasions where regular shorts just don't work. Love all the pretty colors that are starting to appear everywhere.
Oh, I know Elli, they scare me too, but we were only a few feet from the road. My husband wanted to walk down to the bend where there was shade and a better view, but I was too nervous. So we sacrificed better photography and took pics in the glaring sun instead.
DeleteI love the mix of the long cardigan and the shorts -- very practical for these crazy temperatures! I love watching the leaves change too. We were just commenting on it this past weekend, a lot of the trees are already changing by us! Happy Monday!

DeleteYou definitely managed to "cute up" a hiking outfit! I would never have thought to pair long shorts with a long cardigan,, but you totally rocked it!
ReplyDeleteThanks Karen, I've actually seen a lot of bloggers wearing long cardigans or kimonos with short shorts, but never Bermuda shorts so I wanted to give a try.
DeleteI think the bermuda shorts look great and definitely a great option for church! Love the burgundy + plaid combo too!

ReplyDeleteThanks Laura, I think Burgundy is my favorite fall color!
DeleteCute versatile outfit! But you're crazy for not loving fall! It's my absolute favorite! But we have really hot summers (100+ temps) so that always makes me look forward to fall :)
ReplyDeletehttp://www.elementsofellis.com/
LOL! Where you live, I can see why you love fall. But our winters in Wisconsin are nine months long, and our summers are so short, so I always find fall so depressing. Plus, we have a huge problem with bugs in the fall which really ruin any outdoor activities.
DeleteWith the plaid shirt and dark maroon cardigan, your Bermudas look great for early Fall. Like you I have yet to wear booties this season and have embraced sandals and open-toed shoes. Plus I just did a nice little pedicure.
ReplyDeleteYes, I love the Bermudas for these cooler temps. I don't think I'd be able to wear them in the heat of the summer though.
DeleteLove the plaid and the maroon, those shorts really look great. Love that you took the pics on the rr tracks. I am enjoying yor hiking pics on IG too! Hubby and I love to hike and camp in the fall.
