How to Style a Vest with Ageless Style

Ageless Style is a monthly style challenge and link up for women of all ages.   Each month we pick a different theme and style an outfit based on that theme.  This month's theme is "Vests" and was picked by Jodie

If there is one clothing item that is really trending this season it is vests, no wonder Jodie picked this month's theme.  Vests are everywhere;  you can't step more than a few feet in any store without spotting a vest.  The funny thing is, I never really liked vests.  As someone who has always carried more weight on her top than on her bottom the last thing I need is another layer to add more bulk.  I use to have a lot of vests; mostly winter vests.  And those are great for running around in the winter when you don't want the bulk of a full winter jacket.  But I have really scaled down on the vests in my closet limiting them to just four...and then I went shopping. 😁

I went shopping with a friend in her hometown and she took me to a new boutique in Chippewa Falls Wisconsin called "The Iris Boutique".  Oh my goodness!  Did I love this boutique!  They had the cutest, most unique pieces and at very reasonable prices for a boutique.  I am wearing two pieces in this post that I bought from the boutique:  the vest and the jeans.

I had no intention of buying a brand new vest because I don't like them and they have tended to not work for me in the past, but when I saw this one I decided to try again.  I just loved how unique it was.  My favorite feature was the distinctive brown color.

I wore this vest on a little fall hiking excursion with my hubby.  I paired it over a thick cable knit sweater and I was surprised it didn't add too much extra bulk at all.

My jeans are by Risen;  a new brand to me.  I had never heard of them before, but now I'm seeing this brand everywhere.  I LOVE these jeans.  I get compliments on them everywhere I go.  In fact, if I am feeling down one day, all I have to do is wear these jeans and someone will say something nice and lift me up. 😀 Most women tell me they love the jeans because they are not too wide.  They say they want to jump on the wide-leg trend, but most pants are too wide.  These jeans are the perfect width, and I love the length!  They don't drag on the floor and you can see my shoes.  And did I mention how comfortable they were?  Oh my gosh, I feel like I'm wearing sweatpants they are so comfy.  I cannot say enough about these jeans.

I paired my jeans with a fedora and a cross body bag because we were hiking.  I recently read on someone's Instagram post that fedoras were out and we should toss them.  Well, that may be so, but I don't wear hats for style I wear them for protection.  They protect my scalp and face from the sun.  I had two friends in my Bible Study who had skin cancer on their scalp and ears and it wasn't pretty.  So if I'm outside, my head stays covered.  I have very thin hair and I have gotten sunburn on my scalp before.

So what about you?  Do you like vests?  Have you purchased a new vest this season?  I'd love to hear from you.

Be sure to check out what the rest of the ladies in our group are wearing and link up with us as well!
