Pretty Cones and Party Hats

The Crafty Secrets Challenge on Splitcoaststampers this week was to make a Pretty Cone or a Party Hat. I had so much fun with this project! I have never made a Cone before! I used it as a decorative accent for my home; but it can be used for other things, such as party favors, candy holders, etc. I have my cone hanging on a peg hook underneath a shelf in my upstairs hallway. It goes so well with the antiquey-victorian look of my home. I just love it. I filled it with artificial flowers and an ATC (Artist Trading Cards. If you don't know what these are, look at an earlier September post of mine and you will find all the information there).
If you'd like to make your own cone, first you need to download the template. You can find that here: http://heartwarmingvintage.blogspot.com/2008/09/great-links-and-downloads.html. This template can also be used to make party hats if your little one has a party coming up or your thinking ahead to New Years Eve! By making your own party hats, you can customize the exact look you want for your party.
You can print the template directly on your sheet of Designer Paper, but my paper was 12 x 12, way to large for my printer, so I just printed it on a plain sheet of copy paper, cut it out, and then traced around it on my 12 x 12 and cut it out again. I recommend that you use double - sided designer paper so that the inside of your cone is as pretty as the outside. Next, I sewed some lace directly onto the paper and taped a tassel to the inside and glued the cone closed. For my image, I stamped the heart image from Crafty Secrets 'Cherish' set, colored it with copic markers, adhered it to vanilla cardstock sponged with Stampin Up! 'Always Artichoke' ink, and then adhered that to the cone. To finish the cone, I stamped the 'love' sentiment with 'Always Artichoke' ink from the same 'Cherish' set onto vanilla cardstock. I then cut around it with scalloped scissors and adhered it to the 'Always Artichoke' panel. My ribbon was stapled to the inside of the cone (the staples are hidden by the lace). I added artificial flowers, and, wa-la, my decoration is done.
I hope you enjoyed this new project today and have the chance to make one for your own home. God's blessings to you all. Amy

  2. WOW ... this is exactly what I expected the inside of that gorgeous "house on the hill" to look like! Love victorian style homes ... would you give me a tour?? LOL!! Your cone works perfectly here and I do believe I have the exact same oval hanging you have (far right). And, I LOVE that shelf ... gorgeous!!!
