Fashion Over Fifty: Cozy Knits and Corduroy

I have been patiently waiting for months for the grand opening of a Ross store in my hometown. We don't get new clothing stores too often where I live, so it was pretty exciting!   I wasn't able to make it the weekend it opened, but I did get there six days later....and there was nothing there!  Seriously, the shelves were wiped clean!  But, I hunted a bit and I was able to snag this pretty beige sweater for only $16.99!

I normally don't like to wear thick sweaters because I carry all my extra weight in the top half of my body and I feel most  knits usually make me look bigger than I am.  Plus, I like the option of being able to take a sweater off if it gets too warm;  so I usually wear thin cardigans.  But because this sweater has a slightly longer length, and doesn't just stop at my pant waistline like most sweaters do,  I don't feel it adds any unwanted pounds.

I really love the color, cowl neck, and pattern in this sweater.  And the little pockets are pretty cute too!

I did wear a nude camisole underneath the sweater (you can see it accidentally peeking out a bit in the picture below) just because I thought it was slightly see-thru due to the open weave.

With my sweater, I wore winter white straight leg corduroy pants that I picked up last year at J.C. Penney.  I've shown them to you before in THIS POST.   I've been reading so many fashion posts lately about how corduroy is 'back in style' this year, and I think to myself "Was corduroy ever out of style?  Not in Wisconsin, it's a winter fabric staple!"  But I do realize there are some clothing items that never really go out of style, but may not be 'trending at the moment'.  Flannel and corduroy are two of those items.  Right now both are really popular, but when the popularity ends, they will still be there for the die hard fans!

My fringe booties are new this season.  I showed them to you before in THIS POST, but my pants covered them up a bit there.  They are much more noticeable in these photographs because I'm wearing straight leg pants and not flares.

I really liked the neutral monochromatic look of this outfit.  It was super warm, cozy, and comfortable too.  It was a fairly chilly day when I wore this outfit, and I did not wear a coat with it.  I was basically shopping that day,  stepping outside only to go from my car to a store, so I didn't think a coat was that necessary.  I only felt chilled a few times and only for a few seconds.  But I'd love to see this sweater with a pretty pea coat or parka too!

Have a great day! Amy

  6. I think this is one of my favorite looks of yours! I really like the color of the sweater on you, and it's a good fit. It's hard to find a cozy knit that isn't too big and adds pounds like you mentioned. Your white jeans and boots are perfect! Too funny about Ross being cleaned out.
