Crushing On Velvet

Two trends that are HUGE, HUGE, HUGE this fall are velvet and embroidery.  I don't know about you, but when I fall hard for a trend I tend to overdo it and buy everything in that trend.  I have a special weakness for embroidery.  I don't know it it's the seamstress in me or what, but I just love all the pretty embroidered designs.  Last year I picked up this pretty embroidered bomber jacket, and now I picked up my very first pair of embroidered jeggings.

But another major trend this fall is velvet, and oh, am I having a hard time NOT buying everything I see in this fabric.   It's just so luxe, pretty, and romantic.  When I spotted these velvet tees at JCPenney for only $9.00 I bought two of them because I couldn't decide which color I wanted.  I picked up this blush pink one and a burgundy one.  I love that they have short sleeves because they fit under jackets and cardigans so well, and I also like the boxy cut for they are more flattering for my figure.

Every year when new trends appear they always follow the same format:  They first appear in fashion shows and fashion blogs and you see just a splatter in stores or in public, then,  a year or two later, you suddenly see the trend everywhere in stores and on people.  It seems it always takes awhile for trends to take off (and some don't take off at all).  This has been so true of both velvet and embroidery.  They've both been trending for a few seasons now, but they are HOT, HOT, HOT this fall!

I just love the beautiful shimmer of this crushed velvet tee.

My necklace is a rose gold knotted chain from Francesca's.  The rose gold bracelet is also from Francesca's.

Many of you already know how much I love flower gardens and birds, so I was absolutely giddy when I saw the hummingbird on these jeggings.

These are also the first time I've ever tried jeggings.  I never thought I would like them because I tend to be too uncomfortable in tight pants.  But this material is so soft and stretchy they are the most comfortable jeans I own and they don't feel that they are tight at all.  I love them so much, I might look for more jeggings!  I do have one HINT if you never tried jeggings before:  size up!  I went one size up from my usual pant size so they would fit more like a skinny jean and less like a legging.

I carried my burgundy hand bag (old) to pick up the burgundy in my bomber jacket and the embroidery.

We were hiking a bit this day (I wore this outfit to church and then out to eat and walking a bit to enjoy fall colors) so I wore flat, suede, neutral booties (old).  The soft taupe color picks out the neutral color in the embroidery of the jeggings.

It was cool this day (yes, fall weather finally arrived in Wisconsin!) so I wore my burgundy bomber jacket (old).

The last time I showed you this bomber jacket was in THIS POST.  I picked it up at Macy's for $20.00 when they went out of business in our small town.

Here's a back view of these jeggings so you can see if you size up they do look more like a skinny jean than a legging, and, no, they are not sagging in my butt but fit quite nicely.

  1. Oh jeggings are for you, they showcase your lovely legs a treat. Jeggings can be quite addictive, you won't want to wear anything else! My experience is that most don't last as long as jeans, the fabric begins to wear and tear and I have tended to get a year's wear out of mine.
What fortune to have lucked out with both pretty coloured velvet and beautiful embroidery. Hot, hot, hot, as you quite rightly say!

    1. Thanks so much. I don't know why I waited so long to try them. I think I just thought they would be uncomfortable, but boy, was I wrong. As for the durability, I never much care about that as I tend not to hold on to pieces very long anyway.

    1. Sometimes it takes awhile to embrace trends. It was that way with me and OTK boots. I had to keep seeing them on other bloggers before I was willing to try it. Thanks Elli!

    1. Thanks Ruth, you know, I would never normally consider blush a fall color, but I am seeing it on fall clothes. It really is a nice neutral and goes with a lot.
