Boho Over Fifty

Can you wear Boho after fifty?   Of  course you can!  There is an old rule that if you wore a trend once in your lifetime, you're too old to repeat it when it comes back in style.  Well, I was born in the sixties, and I remember wearing a lot of the fun "hippie" styles in the seventies, but I still think I can jump on the Boho trend again with a few modifications.

I created this Bohemian outfit by wearing a Boho style top with pom pom hem jeans, scrappy sandals, and boho accessories.

Many of you have seen me don these pom pom jeans on the blog and social media before.  Every time I show these jeans, women want to know where I got them.  Well I got mine on clearance for less than $5.00 at a Younker's "Going Out of Business" sale so I can't link to this exact pair.  I even tried finding alternatives for you on-line but they are sold out everywhere.  If designers and buyers were smart,  they'd get more pom pom hem jeans in stock soon, because women want them!  If you can't wait for stores to restock,  try buying some pom pom and decorative trim at a fabric store and add them to your own capris!  I'd be super easy to do!

The pom pom jeans are a really cute way of going a little Boho over fifty.  It adds just a touch of that Bohemian vibe without the overkill.  If you're a little nervous about going over-the-top with the Boho look, you could just wear the jeans with a simple tee or any regular top and not a Boho style top like the one I'm wearing.

This Boho style top is by Daniel Rainn and is called "Levanna Crochet Detail Top".  This one is from Stitch Fix, but I found some cute ones on Amazon HERE and HERE.

I really like the loose and free Boho style of this top.  The crochet details on the yoke and sleeves are so pretty too.

A round leather saddlebag, blue stone bracelet,  and fun leather statement earrings coordinate well with the Boho look.

Some scrappy sandals from DSW (old) complete the Boho vibe from head to toe.

I love an understated Boho look because it is so comfortable to wear yet the outfit looks more put-together than your typical casual attire.

Another way to wear this Boho top is with denim shorts.  I kept the same sandals and jewelry, and I went with a more distressed pair of shorts to keep the Boho vibe.

An Embroidered Detail Tassel Knit Top From Stitch Fix

Now that our precious new grand baby finally made his way into this world, I can finally return to a normal blogging schedule.  If you missed the baby pictures, you can see them on THIS POST.  I will also be doing a special post on Atticus birth story as well as a new "Grandma and Me" post soon.  For now, I'm returning to my review of my June Stitch Fix box.  I had to cancel my July box because it would have arrived while I was away from home.  That was a bummer.

This top is the third piece I'm reviewing from my June box.  You can see the other two items previously reviewed HERE and HERE.

The top is by Daniel Rainn and is called "Micaela Embroidery Detail Tassel Knit Top".  I really liked the cut and fit of this top.  It was form fitting in the bust, yet flowed nicely over the tummy area.  It had so many pretty details like the pleats, the embroidery, and the tassel's.  I also liked the color;  I don't have much of this color at all in my closet.

The back was almost as pretty as the front as the embroidery was on the back as well.  Also, notice the tapered waist line.  Women over fifty, like myself, tend to get thicker waists.   The tendency then is to wear boxier tops to cover up the thick waist, which just makes us look shapeless.  What is nice about this top is how the top tapers in at the smallest part of the waist, then the fabric is loose and flowing covering up the parts us over-fifty women want covered.  No boxy, shapeless look here!

Because the top is a bohemian style, I carried that boho look from head to toe throughout my outfit.  I wore embroidered, pom-pom hem capris, brown sandals, and I carried a saddlebag (all old).

The top has a very nice length;  not too short, not too long.  About the only thing I didn't like about this top was that it was very heavy.  I didn't think I would get much use out of it in the summer because I'd be too warm.  However, I thought it would be great in the spring or fall when the weather was cooler and that it would look fabulous with a jean jacket!  The color is perfect for early fall!

This is one of my favorite bracelets.  I've had it forever.  I love all the colorful stones.

Stitch Fix #28 Review

I'm so excited to review my April box from Stitch Fix because it was one of the best boxes I've received in a long time.  Everything was just my style, in colors I love, and items I could really use.  Now that I said all that, I'm sure it will come to no surprise to you that I KEPT EVERYTHING!!  My Instagram Polls were very positive too, on every item except one.  But I kept that item anyway because it was practical and I knew I'd wear it a lot this summer.  Now,  let's begin the review of my April box,  Stitch Fix #28.

Sole Society Handbags Emmet Clutch

Status Kept!

I love this clutch.  It's such a pretty color,  the round handle is adorable, and I like that I can use it as a cross body bag too.  That being said,  I almost didn't keep this bag because I already own a peach clutch.  However, the clutch I already own is very plain and just an open bag.  This one had a nice leopard lined interior and lots of pockets for credit cards.  It will be a lot more useful for me, especially when traveling.

The clutch polled very well, coming in at the second most popular item:  83% said "keep" and 17% said "send back".

Cosmic Blue Love Ava Button Down Top

Status:  Kept!

This pastel, vertical stripe top was the least popular item on Instagram.  Only 38% said "Keep" and 62% said "Return".  I have to admit, it was not my favorite item in the Fix, but I thought it was very practical so I kept it.  In hot weather, I like to wear a lot of tanks, but when I go inside stores or other buildings, I prefer to cover my shoulders.  This top is very sheer and lightweight, and it will make the perfect cover up over tanks.  I also really liked the colors and thought it would go with a lot of items I already own.

Status:  Kept Both!

This top was probably my favorite piece in this box.  I loved the embroidery, especially against the all white background.  The colors in the embroidery were so beautiful, and I thought the peachy pink tassels were super cute as well.  The style and fit of this top was great too.  A lot of boho tops can be so loose and baggy they can make me look heavier than I am.  This boho top has a nice, fit;  it's more narrow in the waist.  It came in at #4 on Instagram:  59% said "Keep" and 41% said "Return".

The most popular item on Instagram were the pants;  and I can see why:  They are cute!  The button detail on the hem is just adorable.  88% of my readers said to "keep" the pants and only 12% said to "return" them.  I love the color, the feel, the comfort, and of course the button detail of the pants, but I was worried they wouldn't stay up on me because they're were no belt loops, so I almost sent them back for that reason I alone.  I have worn them once since I bought them, and my worst fears came true:  they were constantly falling down on me while I was shopping and I had to keep pulling them up.  I will have to find a similar material and sew on my own belt loops as some readers have suggested.

Leota Finnley Jersey Faux Wrap Dress

Status:  Kept!

This pretty faux wrap dress came in #3 in my Instagram Poll.  I absolutely love this dress!  The colors are so pretty, the fit and length is great, and it's super comfy to wear.  I can't wait till it's warm enough for me to wear it!  63% of Instagram pollsters said to "Keep it" and 37% said to "Return It".

Pretty Pastels From Stitch Fix

Last Friday I mentioned that my April box from Stitch Fix was one of the best boxes I received in a long time.  I've already shown you a cute "Faux Wrap Dress" (HERE), and today I am showing three more pieces I received in that box:  the clutch (also seen on Friday's post), an embroidered top, and light blue pants.

The top is by Pale Sky and is called "Emmy Embroidered Top".  I fell in love with this top the second I pulled it out of the box.  I love white tops in general, and the GORGEOUS embroidery sold me immediately.

The neckline is gathered and can be tied closed or left open.  It has the cutest peach tassels at the end of the cord.  The top is more fitted in the waist area than a typical boho top.  

Isn't this embroidery gorgeous?  I love the colors.  I wore this top on Mother's Day and Alethea kept playing with the tassels and tracing the embroidered flowers with her fingers.

The clutch is by Sole Society and is called "Emmet Clutch".

Next up are these pretty pale blue pants by Lila Ryan.  They are called "Kit Button Hem Detail Skinny Pants".

The pants are a super soft thin stretchy material that is so comfortable to wear.  I'm sure I can wear these pants instead of shorts in hot, humid weather and still be comfortable.  

I have to admit, it was these cute little buttons that sold me on these pants.  Aren't they an adorable detail?

I loved these pants from the moment I saw them, they will be such a nice alternative this summer when I don't want to wear shorts.  The only drawback to these pants is that there is no belt loop.  If there's any weight fluctuation, these pants will be difficult to keep up without a belt.  Do any of my readers have any suggestions?

I'll let you know next week if I decided to keep any of these pieces, but I'm sure you probably already guessed!  😊
