Rock Concert Look

Two days after the election a dear friend texted me and said that she had tickets to a Christian rock concert in our area and wanted to know if I wanted to go with her.  I really needed a diversion from all the negative news as a result of the election, so I was thrilled to go.  Of course, the next thing I had to decide was "What to Wear"!

I wanted to wear something a little "hip" (is that still a word?) for I was worried my girlfriend and I would be the old farts at this concert.  It turned out that was not the case.  Because it was a Thursday night, there were not a lot of teens/young adults there and I would say the majority of the audience was my age with young children.  Older teens in my area tend to be involved in sports and many other extra-curricular activities so that's probably why there weren't many at the concert;  but it was still sold out.

Knowing from past experience that one spends most of their time at rock concerts standing,   I wanted to wear comfortable shoes.  I was also worried about being too warm as I figured it would be pretty crowded generating lots of body heat in the building.  So I decided to wear a neutral outfit of mostly blacks and grey (my attempt at looking "hip") and a sheer leopard print top (to keep me cool), and some comfy trendy booties.

I added a grey utility vest I received from Stitch Fix last fall HERE just so I'd be a little more comfortable walking from the parking lot to the building.  I didn't want to bring a coat and have to worry about where to put it.

The leopard print top is from Express (old), I've shown it to you before HERE and HERE.  The Levi black skinny jeans are new this season (JCP) and I've shown these to you before HERE.

I added a trendy choker from Forever 21 to help me look a little more "hip" for a rock concert.

I really like how the utility vest softened the leopard print (too much leopard can sometimes be overwhelming to me) and also made the outfit more on-trend.

I didn't actually carry this bag the day of the concert.  I used a metallic grey cross body bag for security reasons.  However, I always photograph my outfits on the weekends, and I instinctively grabbed the bag I usually carry forgetting I used a different one the night of the concert.

I did buy new shoes last week.  I was actually Christmas shopping for my daughter that day, and as usual, I didn't find anything for her but found plenty of new things for me....these shoes being one of them.  Aren't they cute?  They are by Blowfish, and are made of a light grey suede.  I love the design, and they are super comfortable.

Leopard Print Top (no longer available) similar:  HERE, Grey Utility Vest (no longer available) similar:  HERE,  Levi Black Skinny Jeans - JCP:  HERE,  Burgundy Bag (no longer available) similar:  HERE,  Choker - Forever 21 (no longer available) similar:  HERE, and Blowfish Suba Bootie - DSW:  HERE.

And if your wondering what concert I attended, it was a mix of three contemporary Christian bands:  Finding Favour, Colton Dixon (remember him from American Idol?) and Building 429

All three bands were so wonderful and inspirational.  It did me a world of good to go out for a girls-night-out with a good friend and get away from worrying about this crazy world after the election.  I especially loved this song "Where I Belong" by Building 429:

I can't even begin to tell you how this song ministered to me.  After days of watching news footage of  people rioting and protesting and posting horrible comments on social media about half of the United States population who voted differently than they did, this song reminded me that this earth is not my home.  I'm here only for a short while, and soon I will be "Where I Belong".

Lyrics
Sometimes it feels like I'm watching from the outside
Sometimes it feels like I'm breathing but am I alive
I will keep searching for answers that aren't here to find
All I know is I'm not home yet
This is not where I belong
Take this world and give me Jesus
This is not where I belong
So when the walls come falling down on me
And when I'm lost in the current of a raging sea
I have this blessed assurance holding me.
All I know is I'm not home yet
This is not where I belong
Take this world and give me Jesus
This is not where I belong
When the earth shakes I wanna be found in You
When the lights fade I wanna be found in You
All I know is I'm not home yet
This is not where I belong
Take this world and give me Jesus
This is not where I belong
All I know is I'm not home yet
This is not where I belong
Take this world and give me Jesus
This is not where I belong
Where I belong, where I belong
Where I belong, where I belong

  2. Love your new booties! Grey is one color I don't have in any shoes or boots. I may have to remedy that with these cuties. Lovely outfit for the concert. You crack me up not wanting to look like "old farts"! You always dress stylish and up to day - not old fartish at all!! Sounds like a great concert. I usually listen to K-Love and have heard of all these musicians.

    1. Karen these are my first pair of grey booties too! I just felt like I needed booties other than black and brown. Like my new burgundy booties, I find them quite versatile. As for the music, other than Colton Dixon I never heard of any of them before. However, I did recognize a lot of the songs.

    1. Thanks Carrie, yes, we all need to rejuvenate our youth and attend a rock concert once in a while! It was so funny because when the concert was over my friend and I laughed because we were both deaf and couldn't hear each other talking!

  5. Appreciate the thoughtful, reassuring lyrics to that song. Glad the concert was a blessing to you. Your outfit was most definitely hip. I like that your utility vest is gray...even more neutral a neutral than olive drab, like mine.
