How To Style A Kimono For Fall

On Monday's Fashion Post, I shared how dusters are the perfect fall layer, but kimonos, especially dark or fall colored ones, work well for fall too.  They are so lightweight, you can wear a kimono during the cooler periods of the day, and if it heats up mid-day, just take it off and toss it in your purse.

This long black kimono I have had for a year or two.  I have shown it to you once before styled with a dress in THIS POST.

I bought my kimono on clearance years ago, but I found THIS ONE at Amazon that is pretty similar.

I carried a metallic, rose gold bag (old, similar HERE) to pull out the pink flowers in my kimono.

Underneath my kimono I wore a new olive green swing tank from JCPenney and Black Straight Leg Pants from Stitch Fix. The olive color top is sold out at JCP, but they have a few left in other colors HERE, and Amazon also has one HERE.

My pants are by Vince Camuto and are called "Kade Slim Straight Leg Pant".  I absolutely love these pants.  They are made of the same soft, stretchy material that high quality leggings are, yet they have a zipper and a waistband.  They are as comfortable as wearing leggings, yet they are a step up because they're actually pants.  I got mine from Stitch Fix, but I also found them on sale at Macy's HERE!

For jewelry I chose this matching earring and necklace set from my collection.  Mine is old, but  I love this set from Amazon.

For footwear,  I chose black suede booties (old).

Have a Great Day!  Amy

  1. This is such a perfect look for fall! Love the flower print on the kimono, I don't own one but they do sound like a perfect cover for nice fall weather! The pants sound wonderful too. I have a pair of pants made of comfy fabric as well with a zipper and pockets. They are on the dressy side so I don't wear them regularly, but they sure are so comfortable!

Your fall flowers look so pretty behind you in the picture no. 2 and 4. I recognize some as perennials. Are others annuals? Would you mind sharing what kind you have planted there? I'd love to recreate a small area in my backyard with similar flowers. (If you happen to know what they are).

    1. Thank you Ellie. I'm not sure which flowers you are referring to as there a lot of different ones in this garden bed. I do have a mix of perennials and annuals in this bed but most of them are annuals. I plant mostly annuals around the front of the house. There are a lot of begonias, I think that might be what you're seeing. But there are also marigolds and tall red salvia.

    2. Thank you Amy. Yes, I meant the flower bed with the yellow flowers and the white ones in the front. Will be planting some of these in spring. I always try to get away with perenials (flowers are so expensive!!) but looking forward to adding more color to my garden next spring with some annuals!

    3. Yup, the white ones are begonias: my favorite summer annual. The yellow ones are a mix of marigolds and zinnias. I planted both types of annuals behind the begonias. I know annuals are expensive. My tip is to use annuals up against or near your home, where visitors will most likely come, and save the perennials for the gardens out back. Also, mix a few perennials in your annual beds to take up space.

  2. It's funny because I don't pull out my kimonos much in the fall, yet I should. Especially now that I'm in AZ!!

  6. Your kimono is so pretty and looks great with the olive top! I like getting as much wear as I can from my kimonos and wearing them in the cooler weather in spring and autumn, they are a fun layer!

  7. I love the look of a kimono and I'd never thought about wearing one into the fall but this is perfect for those cooler nights (or restaurants). This is a beautiful look and I love that you've used an olive shirt to break up the dark pieces. That bag is gorgeous, as is your necklace! I love the Amazon pieces you've substituted for them, too!
