My Stampin Buddy

I just about died when I saw one of the inspiration pieces for this week's Inspiration Challenge on Splitcoaststampers.com. This week's inspiration pieces were all these beautiful and amazing cakes, and the one that really caught my eye was this beautiful lovebird cake. What a masterpiece! I would love to have this cake, but I could never eat it! How could anyone take a knife to this amazing creation? Anyhow, the reason I loved this cake so much is because I have such a special fondness for lovebirds. Many of you know me by my user name on Splitcoaststampers 'Amylovesnormajean' and have probably wondered who Norma Jean was. Well, Norma Jean is my pet lovebird. She sits on my shoulder all day while I stamp. And since she is my stamping buddy, I decided she might as well be my user name. If you don't know much about Lovebirds, I will tell you a little bit about them. When kept in pairs, a lovebird will bond to another bird and you will see them frequently 'nuzzling' with each other, looking like they are in love, as in the picture on the cake. But if you only have one lovebird, as I do, they will bond that way too you. A nickname for a lovebird is 'Velcro Birds', because they stick to you like velcro! And that is so true! Norma Jean will sit and climb all over me all day if I let her, and its very difficult to 'pry' her off me and put her in her cage. She is just the sweetest little bird in the world! She gets so excited when she sees me in the morning and starts chirping excitedly and bouncing about her cage, because she knows I'll be letting her out soon. Then, when I open her cage door, she quickly climbs out and first sits on my extended arm and 'talks' to me. I have no idea what she is saying, but I think she thinks I can actually understand her. After our 'little conversation', she crawls up my arm and stays there most of the day. Sometime she can be a little mischievous and crawl down my arm and onto my craft table to nibble at things. Lovebirds love to pick just about anything up with their beaks. They are like little toddlers: everything goes in their mouth! And she has destroyed quite a few cardstock and ribbon pieces when I wasn't looking!

Well, enough about my sappy story about my pet and onto my card. The image is from the retired Stampin Up! set 'Sweet Songbirds'. I stamped the feathers from the set onto the Barely Banana panel with versamark. The image was colored with copic markers, and I used Norma Jean's colors for my inspiration. The banana leaves are from a Stampendous set. I mounted one leaf, the main image and the sentiment up on dimensionals. The other cardstock colors I used are Gable Green and Cameo Coral.
I hope you enjoyed meeting my little stamping buddy. Have a great day! Amy
