How To Wear Spring Graphic Tees with Ageless Style

Ageless Style is a monthly style challenge and link up for women of all ages.   Each month we pick a different theme and style an outfit based on that theme.  This month's theme is "Spring Graphic Tees" and was picked by Leslie.

Spring is really trying to make its way to Wisconsin, but Mother Nature seems to be fighting her every step of the way.  I do see bulbs popping out of the ground now, but the grass is still brown and temps vary from the 30's to 50's with a surprise 60 degree day now and then.  With these fluctuations in temperatures, dressing in layers is essential and using a cute graphic spring tee as your base layer is one way of welcoming spring even when the weather says something else. 

My spring graphic tee not only has a spring graphic on it (butterflies) but is also a spring color.  I paired my graphic tee with a white denim jacket because of course, it was chilly outside;  too chilly to just wear a t-shirt. 

I wore my t-shirt with a long denim skirt to dress it up a bit.  I'm not the type of gal who wears t-shirts out in public much, and when I do, I tend to dress them up.  I added a white belt to pull out the white butterfly graphic, and I wore neutral, comfy athletic sandals.

For jewelry, I kept it simple with a white pearl shell necklace, white stud earrings, and a couple of brightly colored bead bracelets.

Ageless Style - Rules Are Made To Be Broken

The Ageless Style Link Up-  The first Monday of every month a group of over forty fashion bloggers pick a monthly theme and show different ways of styling it. 

It is the first Monday of the month and time for a new Ageless Style Link Up!  This month our theme was chosen by Bettye  and she picked "Rules Are Made To Be Broken".  There are so many fashion rules out there like  "Don't wear white before Labor Day", "Don't wear double denim", and "Don't match your shoes to your purse." I don't usually pay attention to fashion rules, as I wear what I like.   But I am always particularly annoyed with the "Age Appropriate" ones...you know, the list of items one shouldn't wear if they are over a certain age.  I absolutely cringe every single time a blogger uses the phrase "Age Appropriate".  I don't think any adult should ever be told what to wear based on her age.  So I decided to break the age appropriate rules for this month's fashion challenge and wear two items no woman over fifty should ever wear:  cut off denim shorts and a graphic tee.

A few blog posts ago a reader asked me what I wear every day at home since I always looked so put-together on my blog posts (ha-ha! If she only knew).  I chuckled and told her depending on the season I'm either wearing leggings and a cardigan in the winter or cut-off denim shorts and a tee in the summer.  If you were to drop by my house unannounced you would most likely see me looking like this (except minus the make up of course).  I wear jean shorts almost every day, as I work in my garden.  My hair is usually up in a pony tail with a baseball cap (another no-no rule for us over fifty gals!  We're not suppose to wear our hair in pony tails).

I have always been a home-body, but since the lockdowns I rarely leave my house;  I've been spending hours and hours in my garden as a result.    My fashion posts have always been "What I Am Wearing" whether running errands, traveling, or whatever I do.  But now, all I do is stay home and garden and I wanted to be true to what I'm actually wearing, so I thought you'd enjoy seeing me in my natural habit...my garden, wearing my T-Shirt and cut-off shorts.

My T-Shirt brings back bittersweet memories of better times, when life was normal, and we could travel and have fun and amazing experiences.

My cut-off shorts I created myself with hard work!  I don't need to buy distressed jeans from the store:  my jeans get holes in the knees naturally from long hours working in the garden.  Eventually the holes in the jeans become so large that the pants are useless, and that's when I cut them off and wear them as shorts!

I have been so bad at photographing my garden this year.  I know a lot of my readers really look forward to my garden photos.  I apologize but with a household of people to care for, plus the addition of a new vegetable garden, taking the time to photograph the flowers has been difficult.  It was nice to be able to combine a fashion/garden post today.

So what do you think of these flowering onions?  Pretty fun, eh?

 

If you would have told me in my twenties that I would still have been wearing cut off denim shorts and graphic tees when I was 57 I would have laughed at you.  Yet, here I am!  Age really is just a number after all.

Coffee and Shopping Are My Cardio

 Every now and then I'll spot a graphic tee, read what it says, laugh and say "Yep, that's me!".  This top not only did that, but it had so many other things going for it that I knew the minute I saw it that it would be going home with me.

This long sleeve tee is actually Exersion exercise wear from JCPenney;  but I bought it as a fashion statement because I loved the message, the long sleeves, the long length, and the thin sweatshirt material.  I hate thick, bulky sweatshirts because they are not only uncomfortable, but they add a lot of unwanted pounds to my frame.  This sweatshirt is a thin knit.

I wore this outfit driving home from Chicago during the week of Thanksgiving.  It was the perfect travel outfit.  The vest was all I needed for warmth getting in and out of a car for potty breaks and meals.  I bought the vest at Old Navy and last showed it to you HERE.

I normally wear leggings when traveling by car, but these Kut from the Kloth Kate boyfriend jeans from Stitch Fix are so comfy that I can wear them when I travel as well.

My scarf I bought last year at the Mall of America the day after Christmas.  The Mall of America has the most AMAZING Day-After-Christmas sales.  Last year I bought dozens of new items and I don't think I even spent a hundred dollars.  I got this pink scarf and another one in white probably for around $3.00;  but I don't remember what store it was.  My husband and I are definitely going back this year for more deals.

 Now for the deal of the day:  Would you believe I got this great top for only a few dollars?  Yup, I did!  I had a $15.00 off a $15.00 purchase from JCP.  The top was on sale for $17.99, so I got it for $3.00!!!!!!  I know your all sick of hearing about my JCPenney purchases, but seriously, it is the place to shop if you love clothes but need to stick to a budget.  If you have a credit card with them, they send you lots of great coupons!

I can't say enough about this sweatshirt.  I just love, love, love it!  It is totally me.  I feel so good when I'm wearing something that is not only true to my style and personality, but is so comfy as well!

I always wear jewelry under my scarf in case I get hot and remove the scarf.  I kept the look casual by adding a silver braided necklace.

And I also wore a simple silver bracelet as well.

My new grey booties I showed you on Friday's Fashion Post HERE, echoed the grey graphics in the font.

And yup, there's that burgundy bag again.  It just goes with everything.  No worries, on Friday's Fashion Post I will have a new bag to show you!

Stitch Fix Plaid Skirt with a Graphic Tee

 When I was in Florida last month, I wanted to dress fall/winter but still be cool and comfortable in the 70+ weather.  So I chose to pack a lot of winter colors with short sleeves and short dresses or skirts. Almost everything in today's outfit you have seen before, but it's styled for warmer months instead of cooler months.

My plaid skirt I received in my last Stitch Fix.  You can read about that Fix and see how I previously styled it HERE.

My graphic tee I purchased at J.C. Penney.  I previously wore it with black jeans and a cardigan and black shorts.  You can see that post HERE.

 I mentioned in my last fashion post that since I got bangs, I love wearing headbands and have started to buy them overtime I see one I like.  Here is a black and white one I purchased that compliments my outfit very well.  It's also a good example of pattern mixing.  The pattern is different than the pattern in the skirt, but it works because the two items are in the same color family.

For jewelry I wore some pretty black crystal studs of my daughters.

And I wore my old silver pointy necklace from Express.  It has a edgy vibe that goes well with my graphic tee.

I wore old silver bracelets on my wrist and carried a metallic silver cross body bag.

I absolutely love the graphics and sequins in this shirt.

Although the skirt is a winter fabric, I still was cool and comfortable in it due to its short length and  having bare legs.

 My shoes are just simple grey satin flats with a unique wrap on top.

I think this is a perfect outfit to wear during the transitional months when winter is not quite over, but the temps have warmed.   If it were a bit chilly in the morning or evening, I could have easily added a cardigan for warmth.  But I did not need it on this beautiful day!
