A Fall Hike Outfit

This is a pre-scheduled post.  I am in Illinois visiting my children and grandchildren.  They do not have Internet service so I will be unable to respond to your comments or visit your blogs till I return.

I feel like I've really missed out on all the fall fun everyone else in Blog Land has been experiencing. Every time I open my IPad some blogger is exclaiming about their beautiful weather and showing all their fun activities.  My husband and I normally partake in all those great fall activities too, but not this year as the weather has been miserable.  It has literally rained every single weekend, and not just any rain, but cats and dogs pouring rain.  And if it's not raining, it's bitter cold!  Our poor local kids had the worst Homecoming ever freezing in the cold.  BUT we finally had ONE good weekend, the last weekend before a killing frost,  and my  husband and I managed to go on a hike after church on a beautiful 63 degree day.

Because we were going to church beforehand, I had to be a little more careful in picking out my outfit to make sure it was suitable for both church and hiking.  I ended up going with this outfit:

Everything I am wearing is old except for the cross body bag.  I just received that in my October box from Stitch Fix.  As always, I will link similar items to what I am wearing at the end of the post.

We love to take this hike every year.  The paths are gorgeous, and they have a 60 foot tower on the top of a hill that you can climb up and see this incredible view.  If you're local, the name of the place is "Hoffman Hills Recreation Area" and it's located near Menomonie Wisconsin.

Because I went to church earlier that day,  I didn't want to wear my usual Merrill Hiking Boots that I wear when I travel and chose this dressier version instead.  The top of the boot can be worn up or down.  If you fold them down a pretty plaid material is revealed.  I didn't want the plaid in the boot to compete with the plaid in my shirt, so I wore them up.

As I mentioned earlier,  I chose this cross body bag from my latest Fix because the neutral color went with my outfit and the cross body style made it easy to carry.

I always wear jewelry even with the simplest of outfits.  It dresses up a casual outfit, and it makes any outfit looks more polished and put together.  On this day I wore a simple gold bracelet, necklace, and earrings.

So I would be comfortable walking, I wore my stretch corduroy pants I received in a Fix from last year.  I can't even begin to tell you how much I love these cords!  They are so comfy!  I find I reach for them instead of my jeans all the time!

My beige cardigan I picked up at TJMaxx several years ago.  I love the neutral color and the interesting texture on back.

My plaid top I've had in my closet for awhile now.  I got it at JCPenney.  I'm usually not a fan of plaid button down tops for they tend to look awful on me, but this one is flattering for some reason.

  1. Beautiful pictures Amy. So glad you got to do the hike after all the rain! We had a few sunny days this fall but too much rain on weekends where we couldn't do much, and Sunday is really our only free day, so we didn't get to enjoy many fall activities this year either. Not to mention the kids tell me the pumpkin patch is for little kids, how depressing I bought our pumpkins from Walmart this year!!! At least we still got to go apple picking!

Loving your outfit. The plaid shirt looks fantastic on you and I love how the color pairs with the cardigan. Cute boots too!

  3. I can't believe you came up with the perfect go-to-church-then-go-hiking outfit - I'm impressed! It looks totally comfy for hiking and totally church-appropriate. I love that plaid shirt on you. It doesn't look so much plaid from a distance - more like big checks - maybe that's why you like it on you? That bag is really cute and I love the corduroy jeans! What beautiful scenery. Here in North Texas, we're getting some leaves changing (we don't usually get much in the way of fall color) but it went from 90 to freezing - I think Halloween is the trigger. Just get your kids something really cute and fluffy and sleeveless to wear for Halloween and you're guaranteed of a freeze :/

    1. Thank you! Yes, I agree about the shirt. It must be the subtly of the plaid/big checks, that makes it more attractive on me. It's always cold on Halloween, kids usually wear winter coats over their costumes, but this year was ridiculous!

    1. Ha ha! Sorry Laura, but we've moved straight into Winter I'm afraid. It snowed already, temps in the 20's during the day and single digits at night. Thanks so much! Maybe next year we'll have a better fall.
