A Casual Holiday Outfit From Stitch Fix

I received this bell sleeve knit top in my last Stitch Fix Box.  You may have already seen it in THIS POST where I styled the top with a pair of cords I also received in that box.  The note my stylist left in that box suggested I wear it for the holidays.  I didn't initially see it as a top for the holidays (other than the color) as I usually like something with more pizazz like metallics, sequins, or velvet, but I decided to try it out.  I think with the right jewelry, bag, and shoes, it makes quite a nice casual holiday look.

I styled the top with black dress pants (Worthington, old), a sparkly necklace and bracelet, and  I carried a velvet bag.

The color of your lipstick is so important when dressing for the holidays.  It really completes your holiday look.  Even if you're a neutral lip kinda gal, I encourage you to try a berry or red for the holidays.  Here I chose a burgundy to coordinate with the top.

I colored my nails the same berry color and I wore rose gold colored bracelets (old, Francesca's) and a rose gold love knot ring a friend made for me.  The velvet bag is vintage.

It's always hard for me to choose a necklace when wearing a busy blouse.  I usually go with a choker or statement earrings,  so I'm not competing so much with the top.  This time though I went with a long beaded necklace that had similar colors that are in the top.  This way the necklace blends in more with the top, rather than competing for attention.

For shoes I went with these velvet suede wedge pumps (old).

The top has a key hole opening in the back.

After putting this look together as my stylist suggested, I think it really would work nice as a holiday outfit; especially on a day if I'm just home with my family.  What do you think?  Was my stylist right?

  6. That's a fun shirt to work with! I'd like to see it with pants in one of the light colors (grey? winter white?), strappy sandals and a blush crossbody handbag. Ha ha, shame on me for taking over your outfits!

    1. No, I love it when my readers give me ideas of other ways to wear pieces. Thank you. I did think of the color grey but all I had was a pair of super tight and uncomfortable grey skinny jeans. It looked too casual to. I don't have anything winter white. The strappy sandals is a great idea, but would not work in my climate unless I wear boots and carry them inside and then put them on. I love the idea of a blush cross body bag. I have one too! Thanks so much! Maybe a shopping trip is in order for me to find more pants to wear with this top! ha ha!

  7. The shirt looks perfect with the black pants, and such a gorgeous color! Definitely not too casual for the holidays. And you can always bring some gold or silver sparkle into the outfit with a sparkly purse. Love this look!

    1. Thanks Ellie! I have a gorgeous sparkly purse that would have worked great with this outfit, but I loaned it to a friend back in August and still haven't gotten it back yet. I guess I need to PM her because I'd really love it back for the holidays.

    1. Thanks Katie! Not everyone has a great experience with Stitch Fix. I think you have to give your stylist a lot of time to get to know your style and give them lots of tips like create a Pinterest board and play the Style Shuffle on their website. Notes help too.

  10. I received this same top in my box this month! I thought it was super cute but the fabric was just a little too clingy for me. Looks great on you!

    1. Oh how interesting, I wonder if it was the size. This is a medium. It does show my tummy bulge a little more than I'd like, but everything does at my age! :) I really like the fabric, it's so soft and comfy.

  12. I think it's a great holiday look, but I'd need a little more sparkle, too! I'd love to see it with white pants and a metallic clutch...

    1. Thank you, I don't own any white pants that aren't casual denim. I was checking out some winter white dress pants when I was at JCP the other day, but I was too lazy to try them on plus I was Christmas Shopping for other people. I probably should have tried them on. My metallic clutch is on loan to a friend, which is why I went with the velvet clutch in the photo.

    1. Thanks so much Karen for the feature! I’ve been on a blogging break so I didn’t know that. I’ll be over later today to check it out! As for Stitch Fix, thanks for using my referral code! I so appreciate it! They never tell me “Who” uses it, just that a “friend” used it and then they credit my account. It’s nice to know who it was.
