Hollyhocks

Hollyhocks are one of my favorite flowers….but I say that about all my flowers.  My favorite flower is actually whatever is in bloom at the moment, because I love them all for different reasons!  I love the immense height hollyhocks can climb to.  I love their papery blooms. I love their 'wow' impact in the garden:  they definitely catch everyone's attention with their height and large blooms.  And I also love watching how much the bees and hummingbirds enjoy them too!  I use to have a lot of hollyhocks in my garden, but they have since withered away and I am currently busy planting lots of hollyhock seed so I can enjoy them next summer as they are biennials.  So because of my love for hollyhocks, I really enjoyed making this card for a friends birthday.

This card was so easy to make because it is just one large stamp that pretty much takes up the entire page!  All I had to do was stamp and color.  The image is from Flourishes and is called, what else, 'Hollyhock'.
I put Stickles in the center of each flower, and added a sentiment tag.  I used a Spellbinder's Nestabilities circle die to cut out the shape, and added an eyelet so I could thread pink organza ribbon through the tag.  I inked the edges of the tag and popped it up on dimensionals to make it stand out more.
I also used a blue Copic marker to shadow around the flowers to create a sky, and I shaded in some dirt to create the ground.  The word 'Hollyhocks' was stamped in white and then heat embossed with white embossing powder.

And now lets take a trip down memory lane…here is my very first picture I ever uploaded to my blog.  It is of me in my garden in 2008, standing in front of my hollyhock.  You can find the original post HERE.  Gotta love looking back on old photos and seeing dated hair styles.  I'm happy my weight has changed too much over the years though!

Have a great day!  Amy
