Over-Fifty Bohemian Style

I love the casual, care-free, comfy look of the Bohemian Style.  Perhaps it's the free-spirit in me, but I always seem very drawn to it…with limitations.   I mean, I wouldn't walk around with a garland of flowers and ribbon on my head or anything!  :)

The Bohemian style dress I have on in the pictures below I actually purchased last year from Francesca's and showed you in THIS POST.  In that post, I wore it to the State Fair with a hat, sandals, and I carried the same bag.  This time I wore it to church so I had my jean jacket on to protect me from the air conditioning, and strappy heels.

One of my favorite features of the dress, other than the gauzy, billowy fabric, is the hi-low hemline.  It is dramatically shorter in front than in back, so I never have to worry about pulling my skirt down.

This is a very loose, big, flowing dress that just hangs from below the bust line.  It has almost no structure at all, which is great for hot weather because it doesn't touch or cling to the skin.  However, because there isn't any structure, I can look quite heavy in it, so the structured jacket helps give me more shape.

The Boho cross body bag I bought from Francesca's on the same day I bought the dress.  It just matched perfectly.  I wore a multi-strand, multi-colored stone, boho-style bracelet on my wrist.
These are my favorite pair of shoes to wear with this dress,  for I feel the style of the shoes coordinates well with the dress.  I bought them at Payless last year, but they are quite uncomfortable to wear so I only wear them when I know I won't be walking much.  The feet just want to slide right down the arch and force the toes way out of the weaves…ouch!  Those are things you just don't know about shoes till after you wear them awhile.  You can try them on the store and walk around a bit, but that doesn't tell you what they'll feel like after a lot of walking!

The neckline, top, and sleeves of the dress have a beautiful blue embroidered design.

Because of the embroidery at the top of the dress, I didn't want to wear a necklace, so I chose these brown drop earrings instead.

The back of the dress is also interesting, because it has this unique opening in it.

And now I have a funny picture to show you.  Most of my regular readers know I find fashion pictures where the blogger is scratching her head and looking down kinda humorous,  so I really chuckled when  I saw this picture.  I think I was just pulling my hair back when my husband snapped this shot, but when I saw it I laughed and said "Oh how funny!  I'm looking down and scratching my head like all the other bloggers do!  Now I know I finally arrived as a fashion blogger!"  JK!

So what about you?  Do you like Bohemian style clothing?  If you do, how do you like to incorporate it into your wardrobe?  I'd love to hear from you!

Have a great day! Amy

  8. I love the Boho style too!! Also - you left a comment on my garden post about the sheperd's hook bird feeder. I have the one from Wild Bird's Unlimited - and I bought a racoon baffle for it. It's this cylinder that goes on the pole that keeps squirrels and raccoons from climbing the pole. It's expensive, but we are no longer wasting tons of food to squirrels and raccoons!
