How To Wear Pale Blue In Winter

In last week's "Grandma & Me" Fashion Post I shared a new pale blue sweater that I purchased from TJMaxx.  In that post, I paired my pale blue sweater with white jeans, which looks great.  However, that pairing was just for our "Winter Blues" photo shoot, and was never worn outside.  Even though it is totally appropriate now to wear white jeans in winter, it is not suitable for my harsh winter climate. Where I live, our cars are covered in dirty salt and grime from the roads and it's almost impossible not to brush up against them when getting in and out of the car.  The sidewalks, parking lots, and driveways aren't much better.  They are ice covered when it's freezing and if it does warm up it all turns into an ugly grey mush which splashes up on your pants.  So, we cannot wear white in winter here in Wisconsin.  I've never seen a single soul in white pants in winter in my neck of the woods.  I think white pants in winter is for warm weather inhabitants only.

So, with all that being said, how else can I style my pale blue sweater other than with white pants?  Well, a dark blue jean would be one great alternative, but so would these dark grey skinny jeans I'm wearing in today's post.  Because the blue of the sweater is actually a periwinkle blue and thus has lavender undertones, it looks great with the dark grey jeans!

Other than the sweater, everything I'm wearing is old, so as usual I will link up with something similar at the bottom of the post.

I chose dark grey boots, similar to the color of the pants, to elongate the legs.

I colored my nails a fun light blue and wore a blue and silver ring.

For earrings, I chose this fun silver statement earring from Stitch Fix.

The sweater is so soft and cozy and has a nice length.  It is very loose and baggy.  I could have sized down for a tighter fit.

I think this sweater will be a great transitional piece in the spring because of the pastel color.  It will keep me warm on those chilly spring days we have in Wisconsin, and maybe by then the snow will have melted and I can wear it with my white pants.

Because I purchased the sweater at TJMaxx, I can't find an on-line link for you, but check your local TJMaxx stores, you might get lucky and spot it!

Styling A Choker Top

My husband and I attend a conference in Minneapolis every fall and this is what I wore.  I always try to find something comfortable to wear as the conference always involves both a lot of sitting and a lot of walking:  so pants that stretch a little and comfy shoes are a must!  The temperature in the room tends to vary year to year, so I try to dress in layers to remove or add as needed.  This year, it was so warm, that this thin shirt was all I needed...and I was still hot!

I purchased the top at JCPenney back in the spring.

It is a loose fitting sheer top, so a camisole underneath is a must.

I wore black stretch denim curvy skinny jeans by Levi's (old).  They are so comfortable.

For comfortable footwear I chose this low chunky heel grey pair by Blowfish (old).

And of course I carried my usual burgundy bag that goes with just about every fall item I own (old, JCP).

For jewelry, I didn't wear a necklace because of the choker top (isn't it nice to have a built in necklace with this style of top?), but I did wear a black and white bracelet and rings.

The last time I styled this top for you one of my readers mentioned that it might be uncomfortable because of the choker.  It is not at all, but I did buy a size large in this top (I'm normally a medium).  It also has two buttons so you can make it tighter or looser as desired.

This exact top is no longer available, but they do have a darker floral in this exact same style of top HERE.

And here is how I styled this top the last time I showed it to you.  The weather was warm, for it was June, so I wore it with light stone wash boyfriend jeans and sandals.   I also carried a brighter bag.

A Mix of Old and New

My husband and I have started renovations of our master bedroom and in the process of cleaning and moving items I discovered this fun snowflake hat that I didn't even know I owned.  Of course as soon as I put it on my hubby teased me and said "What, are you a snowflake now?"   He's so silly.

Today I have a mix of old and new items I purchased this season.

Everything I have on is old except the burgundy shirt and booties.   The top I picked up at JCP because I needed to spend just a few more dollars so I could use my coupon.  It was on sale for $7.00.  I really like the color, the thin material and the loose drape.  It's a V-neck.  I was going to take pictures of it without the scarf and sweater, but it was just too darn cold.

My scarf has been in my wardrobe forever.  The sweater I picked up at Zara a season or two ago.

I really like the shape of this sweater.  It is longer in the back and curves shorter in front.

My straight leg jeans are from Stitch Fix.  I learned from a reader of my blog to cuff the jeans to the inside if I want to shorten my pant legs to show off my booties.  That was such a good tip.  I love it when my readers give me valuable advice like that.  Whenever I cuffed my pants on the outside it made my legs look shorter and heaver.  But if the cuff is turned to the inside, it gives a nice, lean, finished look.

You're probably so tired of seeing me in hats and scarves, but unfortunately it's just too cold here in Wisconsin to live without them.  Plus, I just bought about three more new ones so be warned:  more hat and scarf posts are yet to come!

My booties are new this season, but I have shown them to you several times before.  I've gotten so many compliments on them.  I'm so glad I purchased them.  And I think ya'll must have have gone and purchased all the grey ones because they are completely out of this color on the DSW website.  However, they do have this shoe available in several other colors

You can really make some interesting discoveries when you spend some time digging through your closet and reorganizing.  The old items you discover can create a whole new look when mixed with some new pieces.
