Ageless Style - Valentine Date Look

I am so excited to share a new feature on my blog today:  the Ageless Style Link up!  Ageless Style, if you are not familiar with it, is a group of over-forty fashion bloggers who pick a monthly style theme and show multiple ways of wearing it.  I was so thrilled to be asked to be part of this team as I've been fans of many of these fashion bloggers for a long time.

Now normally, Ageless Style is on the first Tuesday of every month, but they just moved it to the first Monday of the month.  I therefore had to move my "Grandma & Me" posts to the second Monday of the month.  So for those of you who might have shown up today to see pictures of the grand kids, come back next week!

And now on to the party, where the theme is:  Valentine's Day!  It is no secret that I'm a huge fan of Valentine's Day, so I was happy that Kellyann chose this for my very first theme.

Valentine's Day has been getting a lot of bad press the past few years, and I would like to change that.  Valentine's Day is all about love.  The Bible has a lot to say about love, and I'm sharing one of my favorite "love" scriptures in the picture below.  For me, Valentine's Day is a sweet day to show EVERYONE in your life how much they mean to me.  It doesn't have to be an expensive, luxurious grand sweeping romantic gesture of love.  Just, stick a love note in your kids lunch boxes, send your girl friends a card, make your husband some cookies.  Just do something and don't expect anything in return and you will be surprised how much you enjoyed this "Day of Love" and how well it is received.

For my Valentine outfit, I chose a new red top from TJMaxx.  I wore this top on Christmas Day, but I thought it would be perfect for Valentine's Day as well.  I have shown you this top before styled with black pants in my "What I Wore In December" post, and you will see even more of it next week as I wore it for my "Grandma & Me" photo shoot...that time with white pants.  It is such a versatile top and I know I will have it my closet for many years to come!

To jazz the top up a bit for a romantic date night, I paired it with a faux leather jacket and I carried a leopard print clutch.

My black denim skirt I picked up on a clearance rack from Forever 21 for just a few dollars.  It was one of the few times I ever found anything decent on a Forever 21 clearance rack.  I normally don't even have the patience to look through their clearance clothes because they have so much stuff and it's usually very messy, but this time, I scored, and I scored big!

Since February in Wisconsin is usually pretty cold, I wore black tights with black suede booties.

The top has a beautiful elastic shirred yoke and a gathered collar.  The sleeves are lovely too as the cuff is a bit longer than usual as there is a slight gathering at the cuff.  And, did I say what a gorgeous shade of red this top is?  You would think red is red, but there are so many different shades.  I've been fooled before to purchase a red top only to bring it home and find out was more orange than red.  Red can also be very bright, which isn't always flattering.  The red in this top is somewhere between a bright red and a burgundy.  I just love this shade.

Of course I had to wear red lipstick and paint my nails red to match!  For jewelry, I chose these silver hobo earrings from Stitch Fix.

I hope you enjoyed my Valentine Day post as much as I enjoyed writing it.  Now, get out there and show everyone how much you love them this Valentine's Day!

  1. Amy, that IS, indeed, A Perfect Red! And I know how hard that is to find.

That blouse is GORGEOUS. The smocking at neckline and cuffs is so feminine, and while I'm only just "meeting you," I feel it suits you.

Ugh, Forever 21 and their messy racks, I hear THAT. I stopped going in there years ago...in fact I stopped going in MOST "mall stores," because they all ALWAYS seemed to be a mess (for one reason).

I wish you a happy Valentine's, whatever you do!

    1. Thanks so much! I rarely step in a mall anymore myself. I heard a rumor Forever 21 was going out of business, but I’m not sure. Happy Valentines Day to you too!

  4. Welcome to the Ageless Style tribe! That really is a beautiful shade of red and it is perfect on you! I so agree with you in regard to Forever 21. Not just the clearance racks, but the entire store was tough to shop...I can sort of see why they're going under. Have a fabulous Valentine's Day!

  9. Looking nice. I do teach about Valentine's Day. It is about love but not a great day for Fr.Valentine who is the patron saint of the day.

    1. Thank you. That’s great that you teach about Valentines Day. I thought about going into the history of Valentines Day but focused instead on what it means to me.

  10. Amy, I am in love with your skirt! I really like the contrasting white stitching. And red looks so amazing on you! Such a great outfit. I am all about doing everything with love every day of the year. That is the perfect scripture!

    1. Thanks Shelbee! The white stitching is what drew me to this skirt. That and the longer length. It’s hard to find longer dresses/skirts. And yes, we should show love every day, but why not show extra special love on Valentines Day too?

  13. So happy for you to be a new permanent member of this great group. Congratulations. They know a snappy dresser when they see one!

Did you hear the Forever 21 is going bankrupt? Charming Charlie, Loft Outlet and now F21. Boo! What a great find that skirt was. It fits you perfectly. Shows off your assets.

    1. Thanks so much, you’re always so sweet. I didn’t hear that about Forever 21. So all the stores are closing? I’m so surprised because they always seemed so busy to me. Now where are all us “thrifty poor girls” going to shop?

  16. Red is a great color on you and you look great with your shirt ticked it. Show off that awesome waistline! Happy Valentine's Day.

    1. Thank you! I never think of myself as having an “awesome waistline” at my age, just the opposite usually. It helps that the skirt has a high rise.

  17. I love the skirt and jacket. I dont have a lot of occasions for a skirt but lately I have been looking, I'm petite and have to find the right length.

    1. Thank you. Other than church I don't wear skirts much in winter either. However, in summer I wear dresses/skirts more than shorts. I find them so much more comfortable.

  18. Love your outfit Amy! I bought more red this year as I am a big fan, and your top looks wonderful. What a steal at f21, I love that it is a black denim skirt. I am on the hunt for white denim for spring and summer. Your nails look great too!

  19. I love the whole look! That shirt is just fabulous and it looks wonderful with that cute skirt - it's a perfect look on you for V-Day (and I'd wear it for a lot more than that - I think it would be one of my go-to outfits). The leggings and ankle boots and leopard clutch are just the right accessories for it, too. And you're so right - Valentine's Day is about love and there are so many different loves in our lives - pick one or two or all and celebrate!

  20. You look lovely in red, and red and black is always such a bold combo! I really like the leopard print with it too! :) We don't do Valentine's day much here - although some stores do setup a little display. I find the day after Valentine's day is the perfect time to buy flowers as they always order way more than anyone ever buys here, haha!

Hope you're having a great start to your week! A bit of a wet one here with all this rain!
