Grandma and Me: A Special Mother's Day Edition

Happy early Mother's Day ladies!  It is the first Monday of the month and I always do my "Grandma & Me" fashion posts on this day.  But since next Sunday is Mother's Day I decided
to do "A Special Mother's Day Edition"  and include my beautiful daughter Ashley in this post.

For this fashion post we decided to all wear pink....Alethea's favorite color!  She has so much pink in her closet!  We also chose my newly remodeled
guest room to shoot in because it has some pink accents.  It turned out to be the perfect setting for the photo shoot.  The "China White" walls with the grey headboard coordinated beautifully with our pink outfits.

Alethea is wearing the cutest pink dress that Ashley picked up on clearance at Target before Alethea was even born.  I love the glittery tulle skirt.

Ashley is wearing a pink knit dress and a pink necklace.

Because Alethea has so much pink in her closet, whenever I am shopping I  am forever on the look out for anything pink for myself to match her.  I scored last February when I found this pink maxi skirt for only $1.99 at Charlotte Russe.  I kid you not!  I'm not a fan of maxi skirts, but for that price I knew it would be good for a cute photo shoot with Alethea and I was right!

But after I saw these photos, my opinion on maxi skirts changed.  I said to my daughter "I didn't think I would ever wear this skirt outside of the photo shoot, but I like it so much, I think I will!"  It's so funny how photos can make you like or dislike a outfit you previously had a different opinion about before seeing the photo!

I paired the pink maxi skirt with a white blouse from JCP that I already had in my closet.

I thought my vintage wicker bag coordinated well with the white top.  For jewelry, I added rose gold bracelets and a rose gold pearl ring.

I wore pink tassel earrings instead of a necklace since my top had a cut out detail in the neckline that I did not want to draw away attention from.

For footwear, I chose lace up suede ballet flats and Alethea chose to go barefoot!

Alethea wore a pretty floral headband in her hair.

I must admit that as beautiful as these photos turned out, it was the most exhausting photo shoot I've ever done.  Alethea had so much energy and wouldn't sit still for a second.  She was crawling all over the bed, onto the floor, looking out the window.  I thought we'd never get a decent photo.  But you know what?  It ended up being a blessing because the photos could not be posed and came out more natural.

I was able to get Alethea to sit still for a few seconds by distracting her with Ashley's necklace.

My wicker purse proved a good distraction too!  haha!  Oh my, those eyes!  How I love those baby blues!

Is she a doll or what?  Every time I see her I just smother her with kisses!  We stopped at the kid's house in Illinois on our way home from Savannah last week and Alethea just burst out smiling and laughing at the sight of us.  It made me feel so good to see her so happy to see me!

This will be my first Mother's Day as a grandma.  Sadly, I won't be able to see Alethea nor my children on Mother's Day.  We just saw them last week and it's too soon to drive six hours to see them again.  My husband and I will have to make the best of it without them, but I sure will miss snuggling with this little one.

And Ashley of course is excited to celebrate her very first Mother's Day.  Having a grandchild makes Mother's Day extra special because now I'm just not appreciated, but I can appreciate my daughter for the wonderful mother she is too!  It's wonderful to watch your own baby love her own baby.  God is so good!

Have a Great Day and a fabulous Mother's Day!  Amy

  8. Oh, my glory!! That baby (and her mommy and grandmom) is such a live wire. You can see the personality and spunk in those gorgeous blue eyes. What a little doll.

How I wish my grands were close enough to do photo shoots with on a regular basis. When I do get to see them, we try to cram so much into our short time together. There is never enough time!!

Love the way your 'china' white walls take on a soft pink tone with all of the pink in the room. Lovely, restful space.

And your outfits. You all three should be on the cover of Parents! Glad you gave the maxi skirt a try. I see them on so many gals and keep thinking I need to move mine front and center in the closet so I will be inspired to wear it.

    1. Thanks so much Leslie. I don't live near my kids either so these photo shoots have to be meticulously planned in advance. And you're right, is difficult, because when we do see each other we have a lot going on and getting three people all prettied up at the same time plus doing the shoot when the lighting is perfect, is a challenge!

    1. hah! She wasn't named for a specific person. Her name means "Truth" in Greek and her dad has a Master's Degree in ancient languages of Greek, Latin, and Hebrew (I think. I can never remembers. :) )
