How To Wear A Baker Boy or Newsboy Hat

I love a good hat.  They complete an outfit like no other accessory can.  In Wisconsin, hats are a necessity if you spend any time outdoors.  I normally wear beanies or some other knit hat that cover the ears;  so I wondered when Baker Boy Hats or Newsboy Hats started trending if they would work for my frigid northern climate.  Although I wouldn't wear this hat if spending hours outdoors, it provides all the warmth I need for darting about in the winter since my hair covers my ears.

I never like to spend a lot of money on a new trend so I was happy to find this cute hat at Target for only $12.99.  Unlike beanies, I find Baker Boy Hats so easy to wear!  I always struggle with what to do with my hair when wearing a beanie;  if I tuck it all under the hat I don't like the way my round face looks.  But a Baker Boy Hat sits so nicely on the top of my head, and it doesn't mess up my hair style at all.  I also think it looks good with my round face because it's a bit wider on top.

I wore my new Baker Boy Hat with another new item;  a long black sheer tunic from Ross.  It was a birthday gift from my daughter.

I wore a black tank underneath the tunic since it is sheer.  Since the tunic was long enough to cover my butt,  I could wear my black faux leather leggings underneath.

The tunic comes with a tie belt with gold tabs at the end.  I love the option of being able to tighten the top to accentuate my waist.  Sometimes long tunics can be too oversized and create a frumpy look, but this one does not thanks to the cinched waist.

The top also has tab sleeves with a cute gold button.

I played off the gold accents in the top by adding a chunky gold chain necklace and I wore my Michael Kors gold studded gloves.

My fur collared black moto jacket is old.  Would you believe I picked it up at JCP for only $6.00 after  a end-of-season clearance sale?  I know, you all hate me now. :)  Always look for fall and winter coats at the END of winter, during the spring, right before summer.  The stores are dying to get rid of them and they are practically giving them away that time of year.

For footwear, I chose black ankle boots with gold accents (old, Liz Claiborne).  I wore short boots because I didn't want to cover up the faux leather detail in the leggings, and the gold buckles coordinate with the other gold accents in the outfit.

I carried my new Liz Claiborne Elizabeth Tote and I wore a black and gold bracelet on my wrist.  What do you think of my new "Black Tie"  nail color by Sally Hanson?  I was apprehensive of wearing a black nail polish but this one has a bit of violet hue to it which makes it so pretty.  I absolutely love it, and so does my husband.  The color goes with so many of my winter outfits and it wears really well too.

As always, I'm a tad late to the trends for now I see berets are trending too.  I can remember wearing a beret in the 80s and I loved it.  Like Baker Boy Hats, they sit on top of the head nicely too and don't mess up my hair.  Next time I'm out shopping, I'll have to look for one of those!

So what about you?  Have you tried wearing a Baker Boy Hat yet?  I'd love to hear from you!

Have a Great Day!  Amy

    1. Thanks Elli! Yes, yesterday it was 0 degrees and I wore a knit beanie to cover my ears! A hat like this is probably better for 30 degrees and above!

  5. OH MY GOSH, you look sensational. I adore that little hat. You always wear hats very well, and I would never have guessed with some of them, you are uncertain about what to do with your hair. You always look spunky and confident to me.

This outfit really shows off your darling figure. Bet your hubs ate you up in this! Love your backdrop, too. So pretty.

  9. OK that Baker Boy Hat looks beyond adorable on you. I used to own a few of them but I am afraid I must have gotten rid of all or some of them. I have to look. If not this Target one is such a cute and affordable option. Love how you styled it too. You paid attention to all the detailing with the gold metallic accents and I love the tunic your daughter gifted you!
