What I Wore Shopping In Illinois

One of my favorite things to do whenever I travel is to go shopping.  I've read a lot of bloggers say that they never shop when on vacation.  I am the complete opposite because I live in a rural area and I don't have a great variety of stores in my nearby town.  So when I was visiting my children in Illinois a few weeks ago, I spent not one, not two, but three days shopping!  Yippee!

This is an outfit I wore to an affluent outdoor mall on the west side of Chicago.  My daughter and I went to this same mall last year, but it was a miserable experience because it was bitter cold.  I always wanted to go back on a warmer day so I could enjoy it more.  It was still cold on this day, but much better than below zero as it was on our first visit.  I was able to get by with just a cardigan, although I will admit at times I was cold.

Everything I am wearing you've seen before.  This is a short, layered chiffon type skirt but because of the color I can wear it in the cooler months as well, especially if I wear it with black tights.  I wore tall black boots to keep my legs warm.  My black cardigan is from Zara, and although I bought it a year ago while we were shopping at Zara at this same mall, we saw this exact sweater.  I said to my daughter "Oh no, I hope they saw me walk in wearing this sweater.  I don't want them to think I stole it!" 😅

This is such a lovely mall.  Would you believe it even has two stories with outside escalators?  I know I must sound so pathetic to some of you big city people, but this country girl doesn't see malls like this everyday!

There is this lovely fountain in the courtyard with a large grassy area.  My daughter says they show free movies there in the summer.

As always, I carried my metallic silver cross body bag because I was traveling.  It also left my hands free to carry lots of shopping bags.  The only jewelry I wore was silver bangles because my top has a lace up detail that I didn't want to detract from.

The top is new this season although I have shown it to you before HERE.  It's a sheer, chiffon top with a lace up front.  I love it because the colors are perfect for fall and winter, yet it's sheer and lightweight so I don't get too warm in it and can therefore wear it on warmer days.

Have a Great Day!  Amy

  2. I do enjoy shopping on vacation, but I usually only buy a few things. I do love that lace up top, I can see how the colors work for fall/winter yet it is light enough to wear in mild weather (which is a total win!).

  3. Love your neat outfit, Amy! I live on a small island. We have some nice shops but the choice isn't huge so although I'm not that keen on shopping, I do give it a go when I'm away from home, especially when I'm in mainland UK, which is 4-5 times a year. So, an island girl is just as much in awe of shops and stores and all their trimmings.

  4. Amy, I love that top! This is the perfect shopping day outfit. I also love to shop when I go on vacation. Truth be told, I love to shop anytime! I'm like you also when I wear something into a store that I bought there and it is still in stock. I always feel weird like they will think I stole it! Thanks so much for joining my #SpreadTheKindness Link Up.

  6. I love your all black look but add a couple interesting pieces like your top and bag. I always do that with an all black outfit and add a pop of color from keeping it get too boring.

    1. Thanks Sara, I struggle with wearing all black too. I prefer to mix a little color in there somewhere.

  8. You look lovely and perfect for a day of serious shopping. I'm the same way with shopping while on vacation ... I love to do it. I get a kick out of visiting at the same stores I have near me and seeing if they are different (it's a sickness for which I'm seeking no cure). I'm delighted to have you as a regular contributor to my Fine-Whatever link up.
