St. Patrick's Day Outfit

Happy St. Patrick's Day everyone!  For those of you who celebrate this day with parties, green beer, and parades I hope you have a wonderful time.  As for me, I don't usually celebrate St. Patrick's Day, but this year I will be making my very first corned beef brisket!  Last year they sold out of corned beef brisket at our local Aldi and everyone was furious.  I was so surprised at the ire, because I never heard of cooking a corned beef brisket before.  I have eaten plenty of corned beef deli sandwiches in my lifetime, but I never cooked one like a ham!  So this year, when I saw Aldi had plenty of them, I bought one and will give it a try.  Wish me luck.

In honor of St. Patrick's Day, I decided to show you an outfit with some green in it.  Since I will just be home having dinner with my husband, I won't actually be wearing this.  But I did wear it to a woman's conference on a cold chilly night.

The long green turtleneck sweater is sleeveless and I first showed it to you HERE when the weather was much warmer.  This time it was way too cold to go sleeveless so I added a long black cardigan over top.  And that my friends is the beauty of sleeveless tops/sweaters...you can easily layer without the bulk.  So many women look at sleeveless sweaters (me included) and think "What's the point of that?  A sweater without sleeves?  If it's cold enough to need a sweater, I need the sleeves too!"  Sleeveless sweaters look great under jackets, blazers, suits and cardigans and they are so much more comfortable to wear under those items because you don't have the extra fabric on the sleeves.

My cardigan is new and is from T.J. Maxx.  It is a thin cardigan so there is no extra bulk and it's not too warm.  It's also nice and long so it covers my butt so I can wear it with leggings.

I chose gold jewelry as my accessories to coordinate with the gold buckles in my booties.  The necklace is old and is from Ten Thousand Villages.  The bracelet I just bought at Charming Charlies.

My booties are by Liz Claiborne and my leggings are by Worthington...both from J.C. Penney.

March 20th is the first day of spring.  Like most of the country, we had absolutely no snow on the ground and then have been hit several times with snow and bitter cold temperatures in the past few weeks.  It looks like we might just start warming up again...into the forties!  Yippee!  I know my east and west coast friends would say that is freezing but it will feel like a heat wave to us in Wisconsin.  I plan on only showing one more winter outfit, and then I will move on to spring clothes whether it's warm enough to wear them or not!  No one wants to see cold weather clothes anymore, especially if they live in a warm climate.

Have a Great Day!  Amy

  1. Lovely, Amy. So brave and decisive of you to announce your switch to a spring wardrobe! I think I'll be transitioning for a while yet!

    1. Thank you. A spring wardrobe to me is a transitional look for spring is a transitional season. I will focus more on lighter colors, light-weight cardigans and coats, and spring scarves.

  2. I was wondering what state you lived in... I used to travel to Milwaukee quite often for work, when I was still working a few years ago. Not sure if that is close to where you live. It has turned cold here, too, but it is going to warm up this weekend and then the 50's for the rest of the kids Spring break. I have never tried making corn beef, but I sort of want to try next year. I had no idea Aldi's sold it... I need to go into my Aldi's more! I really like the length of this green turtleneck and how you styled it!

    1. Carrie I grew up in Milwaukee but I currently live in the upper midwest of the state now. My corned beef turned out perfect, but my husband and I weren't crazy about it. I think it's an "acquired taste".

  3. Nice outfit, love the length of the sweater and it looks great paired with the long cardigan. I am sure you're looking forward to wearing more spring like clothes. It's been a long winter and still too cold for my taste (first year ever for me that I actually disliked winter!)

    1. Thanks Elli, my husband and I were just discussing that it was a mild winter, but yes, it seems that it's been a little long this year. I think because we've been so cold the past few weeks and spring weather seems slower to appear.

  4. I remember as a child, my mom cooked corned beef one time. None of us had the required/acquired taste for it either. Never had it again. I was dieting at the time (teenage anorexia) and just remember her meat being very greasy. We didn't do anything for St. Pat's other than I wore green earrings! Yay, you to pull out the spring pieces and start transitioning the winter clothes out. Even with snow on the ground.

    1. I so agree about the corned beef. I don't think i'll make it again. It was o.k., but not worth the extra fat and calories to me. We're going to try making corned beef grilled sandwiches with caramelized onion and cheddar cheese with the leftovers and see if we like that better!

  5. That's such a cosy knit tunic! The long necklace is perfect with it too. Hope that your corned beef brisket turned out nicely and you had a lovely Saint Patrick's day. I don't celebrate it as I'm not Irish, but I did wear a little green :)

Hope you are having a great weekend!

    1. Thank you! Yes, the corned beef brisket turned out perfect, but we just weren't crazy about it. It must be an acquired taste.

  6. Great look - I love the cozy tunic! Yes temps in the 40's would NOT feel like a heat wave here in Florida - we'd have our down parkas on : > xox

    1. Thank you! LOL! Yes, I know Floridians would be donning the hats and mittens in temperatures we would consider spring-like. So funny.

    1. Thanks Jill! The corned beef brisket turned out great, but I don't think it is something my husband and I have a taste for so I probably won't be making it next year.
