A Simple Water Colored Iris

Today I am sharing my card for this week's sketch challenge on Splitcoaststampers. I used the retired Stampin Up! iris image from 'Still Life Stems'. Its colored with SU! markers and water. The background papers from SU! 'Tea Party' and the card stock colors are White, Water Color Paper, Pretty in Pink, Certainly Celery, and So Saffron. I worked all day today, then came home and drained and cleaned my small pond. Ugh, was it filled with algae! I'm amazed my fish were still alive. Does anyone have any ideas on how to keep a pond algae free without adding chemicals? I have to drain and clean mine every month. I could probably even do it more often than that if I had the time. I've tried everything the books said: keep the water circulating, add plants, fish, etc., but nothing works. It is in the sun, so I'm sure that is the problem, but until my crab apple tree grows taller, I won't be able to change that problem for awhile.
I found out that two of my purses sold at the consignment store last month! Yippee! I was really unsure how they would go over with the shoppers. I've only submitted paper crafts before, so I was encouraged to try other sewing projects too: aprons, vests, wallets, pot holders, etc. There are WAY too many paper crafters to compete with now at the store. I was the first paper crafter at my store, and then all of a sudden, everyone started to sell cards too. Paper crafting has certainly become the number one hobby. Even at the fabrics and crafts store I work at, the paper crafts department almost always has the highest sales, with fabric coming in second. I suppose we paper crafters should all be happy about how popular our craft has become! Have a great day! Amy

  1. This is a lovely image and your coloring is wonderful.

How funny that so many people in the consignment shop are making paper crafts now. Maybe they saw your cards and figured they would get on the bandwagon too. I wonder if maybe you get a better return on your projects with sewing though. I'm thinking that someone might be willing to spend $2 or $3 on a card that took you an hour or two to make. But that same person would think nothing of spending $10on a purse that took the same amount of time.

I went to Europe for a month in 1986 with my sister, Sandy. She had received enough money for her college graduation to go and have a great time. My parents didn't want her to go alone so they bought me a plane ticket and a Eurail (train) pass. And that's it. I had almost no money for food or lodging. My other sister, Sharon, was stationed in Germany at the time, and since that is our native land (where our ancestors are from), we spent about 10 days there. The rest of the time was a blur of cities and countries along the train route. The places I really wanted to go were not the same places Sandy wanted to go though, and since it was "her" trip, we went where she wanted to. We are very different people. She is an artist and I'm into nature. So I wanted to go to the country but she wanted to see museums. So that's what we did. At night, she wanted to go to clubs and bars. I like to stay in. We didn't get along well, I had run out of money and was eating day old bread, and by the end of the trip we pretty much hated each other. I think that's why still, after 20+ years, we don't communicate much. Anyway... to answer your question, no, I didn't get a chance to visit Italy, although I would love to someday.
