Stitch Fix #16: Cold Shoulder Top

Today I am featuring the final item in my sixteenth Fix and the one item I kept.  I will also review the entire Fix at the end of the post.

Every time I get a box from Stitch Fix I do an Instastories as I open the box and try on the items for the first time..  I save these Instatories on my Instagram profile if your interested in seeing them.  When I opened this box, I said I don't really like cold shoulder tops and this was the LAST item I thought I would keep.  I have purchased a couple of cold shoulder tops in the past and didn't like the way they looked on me.  But, when I put this top on my photographer/husband LOVED it and encouraged me to keep it.  So I did!

For the photo shoot, I tried the top un-tucked with a pair of skinny jeans and heels.  The top is a very thin, lightweight material.  Perfect for hot summer days!

I liked that the top had thin little straps so I wouldn't have to be tugging it back in place like a off-the-shoulder top.

I wore a black multi-strand necklace and carried a red handbag for a pop of color..

My released hem skinny jeans are by Charlotte Russe, shoes from JCP (both old).

The top is from Skies are Blue and is called the "Yalina Cold Shoulder Blouse".

The sleeves have a little slit in them which makes arm movement easier and the top comfortable to wear.

I also wore a black bracelet.  The red bag is a cross body bag and was a gift from my daughter.

I have worn the top once since I got it.  My husband and I went on a date to a nearby town and I styled the top with a short black skirt. 

 I like the way the top looks tucked in better than untucked it.  What about you?  Which way do you like it better?

Overall, this was a really great Fix even though I only kept 1 item.  I actually liked everything in this Fix but items were returned either because I had something similar already, the price was too much, or the style wasn't quite what I was looking for.  My next Fix, Stitch Fix 17, I kept 3 out of 5 items!  And guess what?  I got my red pants!  I can't wait to show you!

Stitch Fix #16: Off The Shoulder Top

I received this gorgeous off the shoulder top in my 16th Fix.  This is the fourth item I received in that Fix.  I have already reviewed three items from that Fix HERE and HERE.  On Monday I will review the last item in that Fix and also the only item I kept,  plus do a summary of Fix #16.

The top is by Sanctuary and is called "Glorianna Off  The Shoulder Ruffle Detail Blouse.  I absolutely LOVED this top!  But it was so expensive!  Would you believe they were asking $79.00 for this top?  That's a bit too much for me, especially since it is not the most practical top in the world and I knew I wouldn't wear it much.

As the name describes, the top is off the shoulder and has layers of ruffles on the bust and sleeves.  It also has cute little buttons down the front.

For photography purposes only I followed the cues on the stylist card and paired the top with distressed Bermuda shorts and sandals.  I added a straw hat from H&M, a multi strand coral necklace and earrings, and a saddlebag.

All last season I saw women baring their shoulders, but I had not yet joined the party.  I always felt a little self conscious showing so much skin, plus I didn't think it was a good look for me since I carry my weight in my upper body.  But for some reason, I felt this top was flattering on me.  Perhaps it was because the ruffles concealed my large bust and arms.  I did wonder how practical it would be since it has long sleeves.  I mean, it's cute as all get out, but if it's it's warm enough to bare your shoulders, you certainly don't want fabric on your arms!

Excuse my "Farmer's Tan".  I usually wear a tank top in the garden so my chest and arms get sun but not much else.  Yes, I wear suntan lotion, but I probably should be wearing sunblock. Ah, the joys of gardening:  stained knees, bug bites, scratches, and tan lines!

Anyway here is a close up so you can see the tiny buttons.  And isn't the print so pretty?  I love the little white dots.

My brown cross body saddle bag was a gift from my daughter (old).  For footwear I chose brown flat strappy sandals from DSW (old).

I picked up my hat for only $12.99 from H&M when we were in Savannah.  I just LOVE it!  I couldn't believe the amazing price.

Stitch Fix #16: Scalloped Skirt

Stitch Fix can be sooooo hard sometimes!  I love to receive Fix's.  It's like getting a present every single month.  I love the excitement of not knowing what's inside, and trying on clothes I may never have even taken a second look at in the store.  I love that this midwestern country girl can have access to brands and styles that aren't available in my small town stores.  What I don't love?  The pain of having to send clothes back I LOVE!!!!!  

I received this adorable scalloped hem black pencil skirt in my sixteenth Fix.  I absolutely LOVED it.  I thought the scalloped hem detail was so cute!  And it fit me like a glove.  The problem?  I already own a little black skirt and I just couldn't justify keeping it just because this one has scallops.  Now, if it came in any other color, you betcha I would have kept it!

For photography purposes only, I styled the skirt with a teal halter from JCP (old, previously shown HERE), a black straw hat, black sandals, and yellow statement earrings.

Here are some close ups of the scalloped hems.  Is that not the cutest detail ever?  Even the pockets have scallops.

I carried the jewelry theme down by wearing yellow, black, and gold bracelets.  The black handbag is by Liz Claiborne.

It was so hard to part with this skirt!  In fact, that's the hardest thing for me with all my Fixes.  If I could keep everything ever month, I would.  Especially since you get a 25% discount if you keep it all.  But I rarely get a Fix where I love everything in my Fix, so I haven't done that too often.  This Fix I received three items I really, really wanted to keep...this skirt being one of them.  Another item I did keep (that post is coming soon!) and another I would have kept had it not been so darn expensive!

Stitch Fix #16: Red Pants and Detail Top

Today's fashion post begins a new review of my latest Stitch Fix box, Fix #16.  Like last month, I will review one or two pieces from that Fix per week, then do a summary post when I review the fifth piece from the Fix.

For this Fix, I requested red pants, straw or crochet handbags, round handbags, handbags with circular handles, gauchos, or paper bag pants.  The only item my stylist sent me out of all the things I requested was the red pants.  But the pants did not look red in real life at all. They looked more burnt orange.  Even my husband thought they looked orange.  I know in these pictures they look red, but trust me, they were orange.  Plus, they were capris.  I really don't like capris on me.  I don't think they suit my leg shape so I prefer at least an ankle length.  So, I sent the pants back.

The other item I received in this Fix was this Daniel Rainn Nadima Cutout Detail Knit Top.  Out of everything in this Fix, this one was love at first sight.  And if you watched any of my Stitch Fix videos on Instagram you would hear me squealing with delight  when I saw it and tried it on.  I loved how soft and loose the fabric was, and I adored all the details in this top.  My stylist suggested styling the top and pants together since the "reds" went so well, so I did for the photo shoot.  When my husband saw me in this outfit he was not pleased.  He thought it was too "old" looking.  Well, I only dress for two people in this world:  me and my husband.  If he really didn't like it, what was the point of keeping it?  So back it went.

When I look at these photos, I do see his point.  It's really hard to pick out clothes when your in your fifties.  I don't believe in "age appropriate" dressing..don't even get me started on how much I despise that phrase being used for mature adult fashion.  BUT, I don't want to dress like a teenager nor do I want to dress like I'm old.  It really is all about balance for me, but it can be difficult finding the right balance.  And every woman is different.  There's so many over-fifty women that can rock any look, and then there's the rest of us.  I feel just like some trends can be too "young" for me, other items could make me look "older".  I'm always trying to find the right balance with every outfit I create everyday.  I didn't have these issues when I was younger;  I could wear anything then!

This top was so comfortable to wear.  It was a soft jersey knit and had these really cute bell sleeves.  It also had other interesting details as well like cut outs in the hem and neckline, and also a tassel tie back.

The Ayden Capri Pant by Liverpool fit very well.  I just did not like the color or the capri length.  I was hoping for bright red pants at least ankle length.

For the photo shoot I styled the pants and top with navy flats and a boho crossbody bag.

So the "old lady" outfit went back in the box.  Out of my last three Fixes, the item I was drawn to the most when opening the box, was not the item I ended up keeping.  AND, my husband was spot on in his thoughts of what I should keep and what I should send back.  Most of the items he wanted me to keep, were items that YOU wanted me to keep;  like the Floral Fit and Flare dress or the Floral Gingham top.  Sadly, I didn't trust my husbands opinions then and I sent them back.  Now I wish I would have!

I did keep one item in this Fix (I would have kept two but one of them was too expensive) and it was a item my husband loved.  And it's really funny because if you saw my Instagram stories, it was an item I said for sure was going back.  I'm going to trust his opinion a lot more now!
