Wrapping Up the Psalms: Final Color Pages of the Year

As spring and summer draw to an end, it is time to put my "Bless the Lord, Oh, My Soul" devotional coloring book on the book of Psalms to bed for the winter.  This is a coloring/devotional book I've been working through for over two years now, as I only use it during the garden season.  In the winter I switch over to "Cozy Moments to Calm Your Heart".

I must admit, I didn't get very far in this book this season.  My garden seemed to take an extraordinary amount of time this year and I feel as though I failed to keep up with it.  Another reason was that my church started a "Read the Bible In One Year" program using "The Bible Recap" plan on the Holy Bible App.    Doing that program is difficult and it has been so hard to keep up with, I will never do it again.  I continued with it even though I was struggling because I'm the type of person who doesn't quit something once I start, but I have not enjoyed it.  It's just so much heavy reading all to keep a pace to keep up to a date on a calendar, that I don't get much out of it.  I'd rather take my time, read a smaller portion of scripture a day, and really reflect on what I read.

Now that you've heard all my excuses as to why I have not posted many Psalm coloring pages this past summer, let's look at the pages I did finish.

Oh Sing to the Lord a New Song

Psalm 96:1 extends an invitation that feels especially poignant as we move from summer to fall.  To sing a new song doesn't mean we forget the melodies of the past, but rather that we recognize God's ongoing, daily faithfulness in our lives.  As I brought color to this page, I thought that no matter what the past season held, every ending carries the quiet, beautiful promise of a brand new beginning.

His Steadfast Love Endures Forever

I thought for a change that I would show you a full layout of this coloring devotional book.  On the left side is the coloring page that I normally show, and on the right is a Psalm with some space to write a personal reflection.  Every Psalm is in the book but there is not a coloring page for every Psalm.

As summer winds down and fall and winter begin, the words of Psalm 100:5 serves as an incredible anchor.  This verse is a powerful reminder that while calendar years change and seasons fade, God's character remains entirely unshakeable.  Bringing color to these specific words feels like a physical celebration of that truth, reminding me that every line of my past year has been held together by His enduring grace and generational faithfulness.

Bless The Lord O My Soul

There is a profound beauty in the opening words of Psalm 103.  This verse calls for deep, intentional worship that goes far beyond surface-level gratitude, asking us to engage every part of who we are.  As I colored this final page of the season, the slow, rhythmic movement of shading each word mirrors this call, giving my busy mind the space to quiet down and align my heart with praise.  It is a beautiful reminder to finish the year by gathering all that I have within me and offering it up in thankful worship.

Looking at these final, vibrantly filled pages brings a profound sense of peace and yes, even accomplishment even if I didn't do as many pages as I usually complete in a season.  A simple daily habit evolved into a sacred space for reflection, prayer, and artistic expression through the timeless wisdom of the Psalms.  As I close this book and step into another, I leave behind a beautiful record of God's faithfulness.  May the truths I have colored into my pages remain deeply written in my heart as I move forward into whatever the next season lies ahead.

Now I would love to hear from you!  Have you ever tried coloring or journaling through a book in the Bible?  Which of these Psalms resonates the most with your heart as you look back on your spring and summer?  Drop a comment below and let me know how you are creatively reflecting during this season.Have a Great Day!  Amy
