Ageless Style is a monthly style challenge and link up for women of all ages. Each month we pick a different theme and style an outfit based on that theme. This month's theme is "Fashion Splurges" and was picked by Marsha.
This month's Ageless Style challenge is to show fashion splurges. Being a thrifty gal myself, this was a bit of a challenge for me as I get more excited about finding a great fashion bargain, than splurging on fashion. My favorite stores to shop are TJMaxx, Ross, and JCPenney! But, I do splurge on certain items, like jeans, hiking clothes, and most importantly hiking boots and shoes. In my opinion, money really talks in those type of items. But I really didn't just want to show you just my jeans and hiking clothes, so I decided to order a Fix from Stitch Fix.
Stitch Fix is an on line personal design service. I used to get Fix's regularly, at least once a month, but after a while I decided because I'm retired, I really did not need that many new clothes so I canceled my subscription. Although I love the brands and clothes that are in every Stitch Fix box, I've always considered them kinda pricey for my taste so it is definitely a "splurge" to me to keep something from my Stitch Fix box.
Since summer is nearly over, I asked my Stitch Fix personal fashion designer to send me some new fall trends, and boy, she did not disappoint. She sent me five items, and I kept three of the five. I will show you the other two items, but I'll save it for another day.
The three pieces she sent me that I kept are:
41 Hawthorn Roseabel Slim Straight Pant in Olive. $78.00
Papermoon Tatum Relaxed Blouse in Navy. $49.00
Liverpool Peplum Jacket in Camel. $109.00
Keeping the camel Liverpool jacket was a real splurge for me. I never spent so much money on a lightweight jacket before...a winter coat, yes, but not a light jacket. BUT IT IS SO CUTE! And, my husband loved it, plus it went great with the blouse and pants they sent me. How could I resist? I decided I would treat myself for once and allow the splurge. I don't buy a lot of clothes anymore, so I can afford to spend more on fewer pieces. I also feel just adding one updated, high quality piece to your wardrobe each season is worth it.
The blouse I felt was over priced too, I could have found a similar one at TJMaxx for less than $20. But once again, I really loved how the colors in the top matched the jacket so perfectly, and I liked the style too, so spending $49.00 on it really wasn't much of a splurge to me.
The pants are what I would normally pay for a new pair of jeans. In fact, I just purchased a pair of winter white Kut from the Kloth jeans from a local boutique for $94.00. I buy one or two new pairs of jeans each winter, so I always stay on trend with the newest styles. I also feel if you want a really nice pair of jeans, you have to spend at least $75.
I did have to send these pants back and get another pair one size smaller. So if they look a little baggy to you, that's why. They were too big for me.
I absolutely love this outfit and feel it totally represents me. It is chic, casual, comfy, yet kinda dressy. I accessorized it with large bamboo diamond shaped earrings and neutral open toe booties.
So what about you? Are there any fashion items you splurge on? I'd love to hear from you.
Now be sure to check out what items the other ladies in the group splurge on and be sure to link up with us as well.
Have A Great Day! Amy

These pieces are so versatile and definitely keepers! The jacket is darling with the pleated detail in the back!

Thank you! I sure thought so.
DeleteYour Stitch Fix was a fabulous splurge! These three pieces are wonderful. I had to chuckle at your opening because I 100% agree that most of my hiking gear/shoes/pieces are the biggest splurges I own... in fact I just had to break down and buy a new pair of hiking boots having worn mine out so much in the past 2 years.
ReplyDeleteThank you. Ha ha. I'm glad another hiker can relate. I learned a long time ago, when we first started our hiking adventures, that the right attire is crucial to enjoying a good trail, especially the shoes! I won't buy anything but Merrell!
DeleteThis outfit looks great on you! I think it was a perfect splurge - I could see wearing that jacket all fall!
ReplyDeleteThank you! And at that price, I properly will so I get my moneys worth! :)
DeleteYou got a great box for fall and all pieces will be so versatile! I don't splurge often but when I see a piece that I love and is perfect in any way, then I I will get it. My last splurge was late last winter when I found a Vince cashmere sweater in one of my signature colors marked down at Nordstrom. I can't wait to wear it again!! I also splurge on footwear as I don't like aching feet, but shoes last me a long time so it doesn't happen often. Also developed a love for premium denim but I get those from Poshmark so it's not too bad.
ReplyDeleteThank you. You sound a lot like me splurging on shoes and jeans!
DeleteEvery piece you kept was lovely! I think each will be a wonderful investment... you look beautiful and confident!
ReplyDeleteThanks Laura!
DeleteClever girl!! What a great idea to splurge with a Fix. I haven't done that in years and you have tempted me to look into it again. That is a fabulous outfit. And the jacket is the piece that brings it all together. Like the centerpiece, I guess. What a color!! I would wear all three pieces everyday like a uniform!!
ReplyDeleteLove the area in the room where you posed, too. Perfect background. It showcases your outfit perfectly. I swear in the years I have known you, you have not changed a lick. Maybe just become more self confident. Beautiful YOU.
Thank you. I thought this was a good challenge but I did struggle with it as I am more of a frugal fashionista. I'm happy I made the decision to get a fall Fix, now I am all set for fall; except I still would like a new pair of booties. Thanks for the comment about my house too. It was in the 90's the day of the shoot, and I just couldn't go outside wearing fall clothes to take a photo.
DeleteThat is a fabulous jacket! I think you will have a lot of fun wearing that through fall!
ReplyDeleteThanks Nancy!

ReplyDeleteThanks Laura!
DeleteI love that you splurged on yourself. I can understand, I struggle to drop a lot of $ on clothes but I think you picked some great pieces that will be easy to remix through fall and even winter. I especially love the jacket/blazer.
