Ageless Style is a monthly style challenge and link up for women of all ages. Each month we pick a different theme and style an outfit based on that theme. This month's theme is "Southwest Style" and was picked by Leslie.
I was so excited to do the "Ageless Style" challenge this month because even though I live in rural Wisconsin, I am a southwest girl in my heart. My husband and I love to travel out west. Some of my favorite vacations memories have been in the west. I just love the landscape, the colors, and the decor.
As I perused my closet I couldn't believe how many items I owned that were already southwest style. My collection showed how much I loved this style. I had a hard time choosing what to showcase as I couldn't wear it all in one outfit. I think I bought a lot of these items on all our vacations out west too!
I ultimately chose to take a burgundy prairie style dress to use as a base, then I built a southwest look through accessories.
I did buy one new item; this pretty Southwest print shacket. I needed another shacket like I need a hole in the head, but I fell in love with this one so it came home with me. Plus, I supported a local, new small faith-based business so I felt I was helping the owner and our local economy.
To create my southwest look I added a western brown felt hat, the shacket with the southwest print, a saddle bag, and leather shoes with fringes on the heel.
The southwest trend is super hot this season, but you don't need to dress like you're heading to a rodeo to participate in this trend this fall. You could just choose southwest colors, which are typical fall colors anyway: burgundy, browns, blues, and teals. Or, you could just pick one southwest element like a saddle bag, anything with a fringe, turquoise jewelry, belts with large buckles, etc. Etsy recently had an excellent article you can find HERE which had so many great tips on how to style western clothing.
Here are a couple of closeups of the southwest print on my shacket, my saddle bag, and my suede, fringe booties. I absolutely love the colors on my shacket.
I've actually shown you this same dress twice before on this blog. You really need to check it out HERE and HERE to see how just changing a few accessories completely changes the look of the dress.
So what about you? Do you like the Southwest trend? How do you think you will incorporate it into your wardrobe this fall? I'd love to hear from you.
Now, be sure and link up your looks with us below and check out what the other ladies in the group are wearing too.
Have A Great Day! Amy

Amy, I absolutely adore this outfit! You know southwest style is totally my jam! I love the color of your dress, your new shacked is so pretty, and those fringed ankle boots are just fabulous!

Wow! Thanks Shelbee. I'm happy to meet another southwest style gal who is not from the southwest either. :)
DeleteThis is such a perfect look for your style prompt! I love all of the details! Your shacket is fabulous!

Thank you so much!
DeleteThis looks fabulous on you, really loving the gorgeous burgundy!
ReplyDeleteI'm not a fan of typical southwestern clothing in general (for myself), but do love a saddle bag and the color teal, so that would be my attempt at this trend. Oh, and I do have a pretty beaded bracelet in a southwestern style pattern with the main color of teal plus neutrals and I do love that too but it's been quite some time since I put it on - mainly because I don't wear bracelets very often.
Thanks Ellie. Your bracelet sounds beautiful.
DeleteI love everything about this style and shoot! What a beautiful backdrop you've got as well!
ReplyDeleteThanks so much. The backdrop is just where I live, only about 2 miles from my house. I've lived here more than 25 years and it still takes my breath away.
DeleteI find it so beautiful. It's a style I'm not familiar with here in Europe, but I would wear it without hesitation. I especially like the dress and the cardigan. Enjoying this, this blog. Thank you
ReplyDeleteThank you. America has so many different climate zones like deserts, forests, prairie lands, etc., Clothing styles can vary so much from state to state because of the climate differences. Southwest style just represents the southern western states influenced by the country of Mexico too.
DeleteYou look fabulous and your background is perfect for this post too!
ReplyDeleteThank you, the background is just down the road a bit from my. house. When I was thinking of where to do the photo shoot, this spot instantly came to mind.
DeleteI just adore that new shacket. I know that feeling about not needing something, but when you love it and can support a small business, I think it's worth it.

Thank you, I'm glad you agree. I think it's a timeless piece so I will be wearing it a long time too.
DeleteAmy, I think this is the perfect example for Southwestern dressing! And, to think you already had all of it (except for the shacket) is amazing! I was so glad you shared that article because I couldn't find much on what to wear!

Thank you! I had more actually and had a hard time deciding which pieces to wear. I'm glad you liked the article. I thought it was a very good article on the topic.
DeleteI could not love this more. You interpreted the prompt soooo well, I would think you are a southwest Texas gal and not a Midwest one. Beautiful color in that versatile dress. Perfect accessories, need that shacket!! Your fringe and suede are spot on and that scenery is breath-taking. A++++
ReplyDeleteWow! What a compliment! Thanks so much!
DeleteI have loved all of you in these South Western outfits! Very pretty!
