Grandma & Me: Sunshine On a Cloudy Day!

I am so pleased to bring you another Grandma & Me Fashion Post!  This month Alethea and I are sharing some cozy winter outfits with a spot of bright color in them:  bringing you sunshine on a cloudy day!   These photos were taken when I was in Illinois visiting the kids last month.  There was no snow on the ground at all when I arrived, but I must have brought the bad weather with me because it snowed twice when I was there.  On the day these photos were taken, it was actually warm enough to rain instead of snow.  It was raining when we were doing the photo shoot and my daughter Ashley was worried my DSLR would get ruined.  But, it did not get ruined and before you wonder why Alethea was outside without a coat and think I'm a bad granny, she was plenty warm with lots of thick layers and gloves;  we were only outside for 10 minutes tops, and like I said, it was so warm it was raining, not snowing.

At this time of the year, we are all ready for spring and wearing some color for a change.  But unfortunately, if you live in a northern state, warm weather is still a long ways off.  So Alethea and I decided to bring a pop of spring with color into our winter outfits!  My outfit is a mix of different shades of grey with a pop of coral in the scarf.  Alethea is wearing all grey and white with coral pants and a pop of coral in her hat.

My grey jeans I received in my last box from Stitch Fix.  Everything else is old or borrowed.  The scarf and beautiful grey cardigan I'm wearing belong to Ashley, however, it was a Christmas gift from me.  I bought it from Macy's (no longer available).

I absolutely love this cardigan.  It's so soft, and the length is perfect to wear with leggings or skinny jeans.

I bought this Baker Boy hat last year at Target.  It's my favorite winter hat.  I hope this style of hat is trending for a long time.  They are so much easier to wear than beanies and they look flattering on everyone.  I love how they don't mess up my hair either!

Alethea loves her hat too, and I can see why, isn't it so pretty?  I love the colors and the pearls in the bow!

She was so proud to show off her hat in the photos.  Her mom kept asking her questions about her hat while taking the pictures, that's why she's touching her head in the picture below.  She loved wearing this dress too.  The skirt is a tulle material.  While I was visiting for the week I kept reading her a book about a little girl who wore a tutu skirt everywhere, and would not take it off.  Well, you guessed it, Alethea wanted to wear all her tulle skirts after reading that book!

For footwear I'm wearing black booties and Alethea is wearing black Converse sneakers.

Alethea is 20 months old now and is saying about 100 words.  She knows a lot of her alphabet already too.  She has those alphabet refrigerator magnets and I was talking to her about the letter "P" and she walked into the kitchen and grabbed the letter "P" off the refrigerator to show me and said "P".  She is so smart.  I've been calling her my little "Baby Genius" since she's been born.
'

She seemed to really enjoy having me stay in her house for a week.  She was so happy the first day I was there.  Even her daddy said he couldn't believe how happy she was.  Of course, as the week went on she got use to me being there and the novelty wore off. 😆 But I think she was still excited to see me every morning.  She always woke up before me, for she's an early riser and I am not.  Whenever I opened the door to my room and stepped out, in the morning,  a broad grin would stretch across her face and make my heart melt.  One morning I said good morning to her, grabbed my coffee and stepped out of the kitchen because there wasn't enough room at the kitchen table for me.  Even though she wasn't finished eating her breakfast she said "Out" to her mother because she wanted out of high chair so she could go into the living room where I was.   Ashley then made me come back into the room and Jason vacated his seat to make room for me so Alethea could finish her breakfast.  Such a funny girl.  I was more than happy to sit across the table from her as I drank my coffee and look into those gorgeous bright blue eyes.

She's a little apprehensive of the snow, but because it was raining on this day the snow was getting icy and it made a loud crunching snow when you walked on it.  She thought that was so funny!

I had a wonderful week with my granddaughter.  I have so many photos and stories to share of the things we did but I really want to wrap up my South Dakota posts first as I've been dragging them out far too long.  I know it will seem silly to share winter photos in spring, but it is what it is!  I only do travel posts once a week as they are very time consuming to write, and sometimes I'm in to another season before I am able to finish them.

And now I have some exciting news to share:  I am going to have a grandson in June or July!  It's going to be interesting doing Grandma & Me Fashion Posts with a little boy, but I've seen lots of other Mommy & Me posts which incorporate boys so I know it's possible.  I'm super excited that Ashley and Jason's 2nd baby is a boy.  It's always nice to have one of each right away.  I actually love  little boys clothing and I think they can be so fun to dress.  I told my daughter "He will be the most hip dressed little boy out there!"  I've already bought a couple of outfits for him.  It's so hard to resist baby clothes. They are so cute!  No names yet, as Ashley and Jason like to keep that a secret until the baby is born.

Have A Great Day!  Amy

  14. Fabulous post full of fun and good news. Congratulations on baby brother. Can't wait to meet him and see how Alethea adapts to her new role as big sister. My daughter has miscarried 3 times now since August. We are all so sad.

Love all of the Grandma and Me posts. This one is especially beautiful with your snowy backdrop. Lauren and Lucia were here last week, and she bought a mommy and me outfit at Old Navy (didn't know they had such things). I wanted to get a matching piece but knew we wouldn't be able to wear them together as it is still too cool for the pieces Lauren bought. Maybe I will get a matching piece now anyway and I can have Lauren take pics of the two of them in their outfits together and then I can take pics of myself in mine. I have wanted to do this so badly since first seeing your outfits.

Love that cardigan you are wearing and Alethea's cap is adorable. Pearls make everything prettier!

    1. Thanks Leslie. So sorry to hear about your daughter. I will try to remember her in my prayers. I didn't know Old Navy had Mommy and Me clothes. I'll have to check into that. We've always just coordinated our own outfits as that's more inexpensive, but I'd like to try official Mommy and Me clothes some time. Yes, you should do a Grandma & Me post. Your grand babies are so beautiful. I'd love to see that post.
