Paper Turkeys For Your Thanksgiving Table

I saw this Rosette Turkey Tutorial on the Splitcoaststamper Website and I thought it was such a cute idea I wanted to make my own.  At first I worried it might be too time consuming, but once I completed one, the rest fell together quite easily.

Aren't these just the cutest things you ever saw?  I made them to use as place settings for our Thanksgiving table.

If you decide to try making these turkeys yourself, be sure to use double sided pattern paper.  The first turkey I made I did not, and so the back of the turkey is just plain white.

Another tip I have is to use a glue gun.  The glue dries so fast, that you don't have to hold the rosettes in place long before they stay put on their own.

This is the first turkey I made.  I used a different punch on the edges just like the tutorial advised.  But for the rest of my turkeys I did not because I didn't think it made that much of an effect.

 I love the dimension that is created in the layers of rosettes.

This is what the back of the turkey will look like if you don't use double-sided designer paper.

For the head, I just put the card stock directly in my printer and printed the turkey head directly on the card stock.  In the tutorial, they tell you to print on copy paper and then use the copy paper as a template to trace onto your card stock.  Too much extra work to do it that way!

I usually would find making stuff like this too time consuming, but for some reason,  I really enjoyed it;  maybe because it was different from my usual card-making hobby.

I should also mention, don't worry if you don't have a lot of the very specific supplies in the tutorial.  Just use what you have!  I did!  I didn't have any of the circular punches, so I just used my Spellbinders Nestabilities for the circles.

If my Thanksgiving Day doesn't get too crazy, I'll try and remember to take a picture of my Thanksgiving Table with the paper turkeys on it!

Suede and Plaid

  Suede and Plaid are one of my favorite fall combos.  This vest is a couple of years old that I've shown you a many times before.  For today's look, I styled my suede vest with a new plaid shirt from TJ Maxx, skinny jeans, and some new booties!

This vest is one of my most favorite vests in my closet.  I just love how cozy and warm it is.

My burgundy bag went perfectly with the burgundy in my shirt.  I wore a burgundy tank from CJBanks underneath my plaid shirt.

 My silver bracelets I picked up on my last vacation.  They look just like Brighton, but a lot more inexpensive!

I needed these new booties like I need a hole in the head, but they were so cute I couldn't resist them. I just love the eyelet design and the stitching.  They are so comfortable too!  I purchased them in-store at JCPenney;  sorry, but I couldn't find them on-line.

I wore an old red and silver necklace to pick up the red in the shirt.

This plaid shirt has brown suede elbow patches.  I just love this extra added touch.

And since this vest is so old, here are some other ways I styled.  I sure got a lot of use out of this $20.00 vest.  It was a great investment.

Chenille: A Fabric I'm So Happy To See Return Again!

 Trends come and go.  Some trends we hope to never see again, and others we don't want to give up.  Chenille sweaters were one of those trends for me.  I love the look and feel of chenille.  It's so soft, cozy, and warm.  When it was really "in" I purchased every chenille blanket I could find and put one in every room of the house.  I owned several chenille sweaters as well.  But, like all good things, chenille eventually came to an end.  So my chenille blankets were switched out to fleece or fur, and my sweaters back to normal yarns.  But now, chenille is back!  And I for one am loving the return of this beautiful yarn!

 You've probably been seeing these gorgeous gold cardigans everywhere in Blog Land.  I was SO excited when I was walking through my local JCPenney and spotted this Arizona Long Sleeve Chenille Cardigan in the Junior Department.  It was a steal for $24.99!

Is this color gorgeous or what?  JCP calls it Ochre Gold but most bloggers refer to it as Marigold.

 I just love the length and the iridescent quality to the yarn.  And yes, it's as soft and warm as it looks!

I wore a old sleeveless black tank underneath the sweater, skinny jeans, black booties, and I carried a burgundy bag.

My new tortoise shell bracelet I picked up on clearance for around $3.00 at JCP went perfectly with my new gold chenille sweater.

I also wore a black/rust scarf as it was cold this day.

Underneath the scarf I wore a three strand stone and old necklace in case I got cold and removed the scarf.  But it was so cold, I never did.

Here is the look without the scarf.  I think it looks much better with the scarf, don't you?

I wore a high heeled bootie by Liz Claiborne (old).

It's important to note that these type of sweaters can make you look heavy and frumpy.  I find it's best to keep what I wear underneath body skimming, and to also add a shoe with a bit of a heel.
