Grandma & Me: Alethea’s Finest Fashion Moments

This month's "Grandma & Me" post is going to be a little different.  Instead of seeing Grandmother and Granddaughter matching fashion outfits, I'm going to just share some of Alethea's Finest Fashion Moments plus tell you a little bit about what Alethea has been up to.  I tried so hard to correlate outfits with my daughter Ashley to do a June "Grandma & Me" fashion post, but because the weather was so awful Mother's Day weekend, and we had all the logistics of traveling plus trying to figure out what to wear that would be comfy, practical, and fashionable, I just got frustrated and told Ashley we'll skip it this month.  I will admit, I was the frustrated one.  My daughter tried to work really hard with me, but the cold, dreary wet weather just depressed me so I wasn't in the mood.  But that's OK, because now I get to make this month's post all about the cutest little girl in my world: ALETHEA!  

Alethea's Spring Active Wear

Alethea is loving the warm, spring weather.  She loves the outside and going for a walk to the park with her mother everyday.  She also has her grandmother's love for flowers, for she was crazy for all the beautiful flowering crab apple trees in her neighborhood.

Alethea loves to walk or run and really doesn't like being in her stroller much, so sneakers and leggings are her favorite active wear pieces.  A neutral, lightweight winter coat is perfect for the cooler spring mornings and the color goes with so many of her outfits.  And of course because she loves flowers she has to have flowers on her shirt too!

On chillier spring days, Alethea buttons up her lightweight jacket and pulls up the hood.  She strolls down the sidewalk in style as she pushes her baby doll in a stroller.

On warmer spring days, Alethea loves to don her denim jacket.

But of course, Alethea still wears leggings with her denim jacket, because they are perfect for her active lifestyle.

Easter Sunday Dress

Easter was a sunny and warm 70 degree day.  Everyone was so happy, because we so rarely get a nice warm Easter in this part of the US.  Alethea was able to wear with this beautiful blue and white dress while hunting for Easter Eggs.

Alethea's Winter Fashions

The next two pictures you might have seen in previous posts.  They were taken in a mild February.  Alethea is wearing an adorable white fleece coat in both pictures.  The first picture was an outfit she wore shopping.  The top has a little tutu on it, and of course she is wearing leggings, with a matching pink bow and Converse sneakers.

On this day Alethea went to the zoo.  She is so happy because Daddy finally let her out of her stroller.  She loved running across the bridges in the primate exhibit.  Here she is wearing that same cute white fleece coat, grey leggings with adorable bear patches on her knees, grey gloves to keep her hands warm, and sneakers so she can run with ease!

Alethea's Own Fashion Creations

All little girls love to play dress up and Alethea is no exception.  Here she decided to dress like a ballerina.  I love how she decided to be so unique and put her shoes on the wrong feet. 

And here is Alethea's Xena Warrior Princess look.  She came up with outfit all herself!  I love how she used a roll of gift wrap for her "sword".  Too cute!

Alethea's Fall Looks

When fall rolled around both Alethea's mother and I started to think she was really looking grown up.    It made us both a little sad.  But, at the same time, it was a blast hearing her speak words, then sentences, and watching her discover and learn new things.  She is so much fun to hang around!  She loved fall! She loved to walk in the fallen leaves and hear the crunching sound underneath her feet.

For a crisp fall day Alethea sported jeggings, an adorable polka dot top, and the cutest red cardigan I ever did see!

She had so much fun pushing her wagon through the fallen leaves.  She wore bright pink leggings, sneakers and a denim jacket for this fun day out.

Alethea Sports The Latest Trends By Wearing Leggings Under a Skirt

Some friends of Ashley & Jason's gave them an old stepping stool.  Alethea loved to play with this stool.  She moved it all over the apartment and practiced going up and down the steps.  For this activity she wore jeggings underneath a chambray skirt with a pretty blue print shell top.  I'm sure she probably had a cardigan over this tank at some point during the day, but their apartment runs very hot so she removed it to stay cool.

Alethea's Mother's Day Outfit

For Mother's Day,  Alethea and I were suppose to wear matching outfits.  I was going to wear my new light blue pants and white floral top, but decided I would be too cold in that outfit so I skipped it.  Alethea held her end of the bargain though, and still wore hers!  Of course, her outfit was a lot warmer than mine would have been.

Alethea's Favorite Outfit Of All:  Just a Diaper

Even though Alethea loves fashion, I think her favorite outfit of all is to just run around the house wearing a diaper (what toddler doesn't?)  This picture was taken shortly after her mom got done talking to me on the phone.  Alethea knew mommy was talking to "Mamy" and she wanted to talk to me too, so she picked up her play phone and called me herself.  What a cutie pie!

I hope you enjoyed my tongue-in-cheek post of Alethea's Finest Fashion Moments.  Hopefully next month we'll get back on track with our usual "Grandma & Me" posts, but it might not happen as Grandbaby #2 is due about that same time and we might be a bit pre-occupied!  I can't wait to have another adorable, beautiful, grand baby to love!

Grandma & Me: My Little Valentine

My granddaughter Alethea and I are so excited to share our Valentine outfits with you.  We decided to celebrate the holiday by being "Pretty in Pink!"

Alethea is wearing a cute pinky peach embroidered dress with white tights and shoes.  I'm wearing a new sweater from CJBanks (sold out in pink, only available in mint), with a white top, white jeans, and grey booties.  In last month's "Grandma & Me" post I shared the same exact sweater in white.  If you missed it, you can see it HERE!

I love how the eyelet embroidery in on both the top and hem of her dress.

Her dress has cute pink buttons down the top.

I just adore her white shoes.  Aren't those bows the cutest?

I don't usually like to wear white in winter because we have so much snow and slush here in Wisconsin, but it's been a very low snowfall year for us.  I also think this pink sweater looks best with white jeans, and it's the perfect Valentine's look for a cold climate.

I didn't wear a necklace because my top has pearls in it, but I did wear blush beaded bracelets with a pink pearl ring, and pearl earrings.

Alethea is 19 months old now.  Last month I told you she was 17 months old and my daughter corrected me and said she was a month older.  My little baby with be two years old in just a few months!  It seems like it was just yesterday that she was born.

Ashley sent me the sweetest picture yesterday,  but it broke my heart and almost made me cry.  The only person Ashley ever really talks on the phone with is me (she texts everyone else),  so Alethea has made the connection that phone means "Mamy".  When Ashley was done with her conversation with me, Alethea picked up her toy phone and kept saying "Mamy" over and over again.  It was so sweet!

I can't wait to see this beautiful blue eyed angel again!  Only two more weeks and I will go down and spend a week with this precious one.  We have so many fun activities planned.

Grandma and Me: Blue and White Dresses

Alethea and I are so excited to show you our blue and white dresses for this month's "Grandma and Me" fashion post!  Prepare for cuteness overload as Alethea was super excited because it was her first birthday.  She loved playing with the balloons outside.

I bought this dress from JCPenney for Alethea before she was even born.  I loved the classic blue and white print and big blue fabric flower on the side of the waist.  The blue in the dress really brings out the blue in her big, beautiful blue eyes.

My dress I picked off a clearance rack at New York and Company during the off-season.  I think I paid only $27.00 for it...which was a steal for such a lovely piece.  The blue flower print is sheer and there is a shorter, white dress attached underneath.  Even though the dress is maxi-length,  you can still see my legs through the sheer fabric.

My dress has an elastic waist, flutter sleeves, and a pretty button loops and buttons down the bust line.  It is very lightweight, so it's cool and comfortable to wear on a hot day.

Oh, I just love this age!  She has me laughing so hard I'm crying somedays.  She is so funny.  She loves to laugh.  The other day we were all gathered around the dinner table and my husband said a joke making me and my daughter laugh.  Alethea looked at us with the most perplexed look on her face wondering why we were laughing.  Then she started this big belly laugh to join our laughter.  That made me laugh so hard I couldn't even breathe and my eyes started to tear up, making Alethea laugh even harder.  It was such a precious moment and all I could do was thank God in my mind for his wonderful blessings.

I have really been getting into these long tassel statement earrings lately.  I know I'm a little late to the party as they appeared on the fashion scene last year, but I'm making it up for it now.  I bought these at New York and Company the same day I purchased the dress.  They were on clearance as well.  Perhaps that's why I'm always a season behind the trends...I wait for the hot items to go on sale!

Because I wore statement earrings, I skipped the necklace and wore just a white beaded bracelet.

Here she is;  laughing again!  She is such a happy little girl.  Her personality is so much like her mother's at this age.

I have had the wonderful joy of having Alethea home with me for two weeks this summer, so if  you have noticed my absence from social media or commenting on your blog posts, that's why.  I'm treasuring every minute with this little one!

Grandma and Me: Fourth Of July Outfits

 Ok, prepare for cuteness overload because I have the cutest pictures to share with you today.  I just returned home from spending five wonderful days with my granddaughter and children.  Oh my, what fun we had!  We celebrated her 1st birthday, went hiking in a state park, went swimming at the pool and played in a splash pad park, and of course we celebrated Independence Day with a parade and fireworks!  I will share more details and pictures of our summer break on Sunday's Lifestyle Post.  For today,  I just wanted to share the patriotic outfits Alethea and I wore.  I usually do a "Grandma & Me" post the first Monday of every month, but since it was a holiday week, I'm posting one week later.

Alethea took her first steps at 11 months of age, now she is fully walking.  She also says three words: "Mama", "Poppa", and "Hi".  I think "Hi" is her favorite word.  She says it constantly, to every one she meets.  If you walk out of the room and re-enter, she says "Hi!"  again.  She even said "Hi" to the fireworks...haha!  She is just so stinking adorable!

Alethea and I wore traditional patriotic colors with a star theme.  A neighbor of my daughter's was so sweet to buy this dress for her.  Isn't that just amazing?  How many neighbors do you know would just see a cute dress like this, buy it, and give it to someone?  How sweet and thoughtful.

This Radio Flyer wagon was one of Alethea's birthday gifts from my husband and I.  I could not believe how much she loved this wagon.  She played with it constantly the entire time we stayed at their house.  It's a combination walker/wagon that is the perfect size and weight for her tiny frame.  She loves pulling it all over the house and putting items in it.  Anytime we were missing something we knew where to find it:  inside Alethea's wagon.  haha!

My daughter and I also discovered the trick to photographing Alethea.  She is so active, that in the past many of the photographs of her turned out blurry:  especially her hands or feet.  But we found that if we set the camera setting to "Sport"  and just allow Alethea to do her thing while we click away, we not only get a lot of natural photographs, but they come out crystal clear as well.

I bought a patriotic pinwheel for Alethea only to discover her neighbor gave her one already.  That neighbor, she's always one step ahead of me!  But it ended up working out well because then Alethea and I both had pinwheels to hold for photo props.

Don't you just love her strawberry blonde curly hair?  I'm always torn between calling her "my little cherub" or "my little Shirley Temple".  And those cheeks!  Oh, I just can't stop kissing them when I'm with her!  I love her so much.

And finally, I have to share this  photo that I took of her when she was sitting in her stroller.  Just look at those gorgeous blue eyes!  Every where we took her people commented on her beautiful blue eyes and what a beautiful baby she was. Do I sound like a gushing grandmother yet?  I make no apologies!  haha!  I just love her to pieces!  I did warn you that this post would be cuteness overload!
