Kimonos: The Perfect Cover-Up For Traveling

This is a dress I wore to Savannah.  If you missed my other Savannah Fashion Post, you can see it HERE.  This is a beautiful, iridescent blush sheath dress I picked up on clearance at H&M last year for only $4.00.  I previously showed it to you in THIS POST styled with a denim jacket and no belt.  In Savannah, I wore it with a silver belt and I had a kimono that I wore in the early morning and evening when it was chillier.

I styled the dress with a black straw hat to protect me from the Georgia sun, comfortable Adrienne Vittadini rose gold sport sandals so I could walk for hours, and I carried a straw bag that I could easily stuff my kimono into when I wasn't using it.

Kimonos are the perfect cover up when traveling because they can slip so easily into a bag.  My husband purchased this one for me at Charlotte Russe last year.

Here is the kimono worn with the dress.  It is a sheer solid black with a floral print.  The colors of the flowers in the kimono will go with almost anything!

The flowers form a border on the back of the kimono, but are scattered throughout the rest of the garment.

This dress is so comfortable to wear on a hot and humid day!  And the kimono adds just the extra warmth I need for cool mornings or evenings, or when entering an over-air-conditioned building.

My $4.00 H&M Dress

In an earlier fashion post I mentioned that when we were in Illinois for the birth of my granddaughter my husband and I went to a nearby mall while our daughter was resting.  It happened to be the 4th of July weekend, so all the stores were having HUGE holiday sales.  I picked up a cute blush sleeveless top  and this dress for only $4.00 each!  I remember asking myself when I saw the sales sign "Are my eyes deceiving me?".  Because I thought it was the prettiest, most unique dress!  I could envision all the multitude of ways I could wear it...alone, with a jacket, dressed up or down.  It was available in blush, gold, blue, and black too!

It is a shift dress made of the prettiest fabric I ever did see.  It is a shimmery, crinkle material.  It is very lightweight:  so it's cool and comfy.  I did add a slip under mine the day I wore it, but I don't think that would be necessary with the darker colors.

I absolutely LOVE the shimmer in this dress.  It is so pretty IRL.  And the shift style is my favorite style of dress!  If you desire more shape, you could add a belt.  You could also add a blazer, jacket, or cardigan to get more structure.

On this day, I wore my dress to church, lunch, and then to a local park to take some pictures.  I wore the jacket inside the church because I don't feel comfortable having my shoulders exposed at church.  That, and the air conditioning usually bothers me.  When I was at the park, I had my hat on and I only put the jacket on for photographs because it was hot and sunny!

My hat is old.  I think I picked it up at JCPenney for only 97 cents a season or two ago.  Hats are always something I look for at the end of the season, because the clearance prices are amazing!

Even though I can see this dress worn in a multitude of ways, on this day I kept everything "earthy".  I wore earth tone make-up colors, a nude lip color, carried a brown cross body saddle bag, brown sunglasses, and silver and golden brown jewelry.

My shoes are also new.  They have all their sandals on clearance and I picked up this cute suede pair for $16.97.  I love the tassel shoe laces!   I couldn't find this exact pair on-line, but THIS PAIR is very similar.

If you're interested in this dress, it is still available HERE for only $10.00!  I would size down too, cause they run big!  For size reference, I have a medium on.

I can't leave without showing you this picture and sharing a funny little story.  There was a floating pier at the boat dock.  My husband thought it would be great if I walked to the end of the pier and he could take my picture with just the water in the background.  But the second I stepped on the pier I got vertigo so bad because the pier shook so badly!  I literally couldn't even move to get off the pier and started going hysterical because I was so dizzy.  My husband had to turn me around and hold on to me till I was safe on solid ground.  I then asked him to walk to the end of pier, but he also had problems with vertigo.  He managed to take a few photos, including this one of me laughing at him from the safety of the shore.  Wow! What a weird experience.  Have you ever been on a floating pier before?  It's certainly not an experience I care to repeat!

Blush and Chambray

I was able to visit a H&M store recently while they were having a huge 4th of July sale and I picked up this pretty blush lace sleeveless top and a blush dress for....wait for it....$4.00 each!  I know, I couldn't believe it myself!  When I saw the sale price and the item(s) I thought "OK, what's wrong with it?" because normally when something is that inexpensive something is wrong with the fit.  But I took the items to the dressing room and I was totally surprised at how cute they were!  I can't wait to show you all the dress, but to me it's kinda on the fancy side so I'm saving it for a big occasion.

It's hard to see the detail of this top in the far away shots so here is a close up.  I absolutely love the lace panel.  I think this top will work great under a cardigan, blazer, or coat when the weather cools too!

It was a hot, hot day when I wore this outfit shopping and out to lunch with my husband.  I wore it with an old chambray skirt and new rose gold sandals.

Speaking of chambray/denim skirts I keep seeing women comment on blogs that's it's good to see denim skirts back in style again.  I'm so surprised, because I never knew they were out-of-style.  They seem as classic as a pair of jeans to me...at least, I've never stopped wearing them.

I'm a huge fan of short skirts when the temperatures climb, however I recently bought a midi chambray skirt from CJBanks as I know skirts this short aren't always appropriate.  I'm not sure if I like the midi skirt I just bought.  I always feel I look frumpy in midi skirts.  I might shorten it so it just touches the top of the knee.

I carried a boho bag that had both colors of my outfit in it, and I wore a pink beaded bracelet on my wrist.

My Adrienne Vittadini Claud Gladiator Sandals in Rose Gold are new this season.  I bought them to wear on my vacation to Myrtle Beach because I wanted a very supportive walking sandals.  The support is great, my problem is the straps are a bit tight.  I wish this shoe was available in a wide.

I went shopping for a new pair of sunglasses.  I really wanted a pair of rose gold sunglasses, but when I saw these light pink sunglasses with gold trim, I changed my mind and bought these instead.  I got them from JCPenney.

I wore delicate long silver earrings instead of a necklace because I already had so much going on in my top.

I was surprised I bought two blush color items on this shopping trip, because normally this color does not look good on me.  I think because I have a tan from gardening, that I am finally able to wear this color near my face.  Normally blush washes me out or is so close to my natural skin color I look naked.

H&M Palm Print Skirt

I received a 40% off coupon in the mail for H&M and ya'll know I'm a sucker for coupons, so of course I had to use it!  I must admit though, I had to look long and hard before I found anything I wanted to use it on.  I finally found this cute palm print skirt, and after the coupon was deducted it cost only $14.99!

My favorite piece to wear in the hot summer months is a short skirt.  I don't know at what age  I'll ever be able to give them up.  I just love the comfort, and I think short skirts look better on my frame than midi skirts.

What sold me on this skirt was the beautiful neutral palm print and the built-in elastic belt.  It is extremely comfortable, and the material is very light weight and didn't wrinkle when I wore it!

I carried a brown saddle bag that my daughter gave me to accent the brown tones in the skirt.  I wore a gold bracelet on my wrist and a black and gold necklace around my neck.

I chose black wedge sandals that I picked up on clearance at JCP a few years ago.

I paired my skirt with a simple black Worthington Tee Shirt from JCPenney.

It was a very hot weekend, in the nineties , and I wore this outfit to church and out to lunch.

The nice thing about elastic waist skirts is you can pull them up or down for whatever length you desire.  I chose to wear my skirt higher up on my waist to camouflage my tummy and accentuate the smallest part of my waist.  But if you don't have tummy issues, and you are more concerned about your legs, you can wear the skirt lower on your hips.
