Ageless Style is a monthly style challenge and link up for women of all ages. Each month we pick a different theme and style an outfit based on that theme. This month's theme is "Fall Colors" and was picked by Jennifer!
Everyone always says "Fall is my favorite time of year", for me, it's my third favorite season. Don't get me wrong, I love fall, but I always find it so bittersweet because I hate to see summer end and I know in just a few short weeks, I am going to be freezing my butt off in a Wisconsin winter and worrying about my family driving in the snow. All that said, I do love the things everyone else does about fall (minus football) especially the FALL COLOR! Taking fall drives and hikes are my favorite fall activity for I love to see fall foliage.
In the fall, I like to start transitioning my clothes from the bright colors of summer to the earthy tones of fall. There are so many options of fall color one can choose from to meet any comfort zone. You can go with jewel tones like burgundy, rust, eggplant, or mustard yellow, or you can wear more neutral tones like what I am wearing in this post.
My dress was actually purchased in the spring at Daily Thread, but it is still available on-line on clearance in limited sizes. Even though this dress was designed for spring/summer it actually makes a great fall dress, especially now when it is still hot, because it has flecks of brown in the print. I simply wore a brown shirt jacket over it to bring out the brown in the dress.
My shirt jacket is also new this season. I purchased it a small business is Eau Claire. I really love it and wore it a lot as a jacket when we were on vacation. It's more of a shirt than a jacket, but the material is a little stiff and thick for my comfort zone to be worn as a shirt. I sized up to a large, so I could wear it comfortably as a jacket. I just love the faded brown color.
If you're wondering where all these gorgeous photos were taken, we just got back from a fall trip to Branson, Missouri. The photos were taken at Top of the Rock and The College of the Ozarks. I will blogging about our trip soon.
As the day warmed up, I removed the jacket: layers are a must in the fall! Here's what the dress looks like without the jacket.
Because it's still so hot, especially in the afternoon, I wore sandals and a straw hat. But as the weather cools, this look could be even more fall-like by switching out the sandals for boots or booties, perhaps even add some tights, and exchanging the straw hat for a felt one.
I always carry a cross body when traveling and this neutral one from Amazon was my go-to bag. I love the texture and neutral colors. It is perfect for fall. I got it about a year ago, and I can't seem to find it on Amazon now but there are a lot of similar ones on their site.
So what about you? Do you love fall and fall colors? What are your favorite activities to do in the fall? I'd love to hear from you.
Now be sure to check out how the other ladies in the group are styling their fall colors and link up with us as well.

I don't want summer to end but I do love fall fashion! That is the perfect fall transition dress! Love the print and your styling!

I couldn't agree more. Thanks so much.
DeleteI absolutely love fall! I think it is so interesting how where we live influences which seasons we like best! I love your shirt jacket: it's the perfect layering piece! This is one cute fall outfit and I really like how it works for the warm to cool weather.

Yes, I've noticed southern people seem to yearn for fall the most. Thanks so much!
DeleteThat is such a pretty outfit and that waterfall makes a beautiful background! I love hiking in fall the most of all the seasons since I don't have to worry nearly as much about bugs (though late fall can be tricky with all those downed leaves making the trails/rocks slippery).
ReplyDeleteThank you. Hiking in the fall can be tricky too cause it's so easy to lose the trail. One time my husband and I got lost in the forest because believe it or not the trail markers were on the ground instead of above and the leaves covered the trail.
DeleteWell, first, you look radiant! I love Branson. My mother lives close by. Lucky her!
ReplyDeleteI love a piece that you can use in multiple seasons like your dress and add things to make it more for the current season! I WANT that jacket! lol!
I love to hike! I am huge hiker fanatic! In the fall that is a huge part of my life. I love fall colors but I truly enjoy all seasons.
Thank you. Your mother is lucky. There is so much to see and do in that area. I'd be going to Sight & Sound all the time.
DeleteI just love how that jacket totally changes the look of that dress. It's fabulous!
ReplyDeleteXoxo
Jodie
Me too! I am so lucky to have found this jacket. I just love it!
DeleteWow! You have captured the spirit of the fall season with this beautiful outfit!
ReplyDeleteThanks so much!
DeleteThis is a lovely dress that could almost be three seasons with some extra layers. Your background is beautiful!

Definitely. Thanks so much!
DeleteThough I love Fall I can totally relate to worrying about family members out there in bad weather.
ReplyDeleteI love your hat!
I do love fall, I just hate to see summer end and winter coming. Thanks so much!
DeleteLovely photos! Fall (autumn) colours are lovely. I agree, it is hard to see the end of summer.
ReplyDeleteThank you
DeleteYour outfit is perfect for the transition from summer to fall. I love it all as well as your ideas for how you'd make changes once the weather cools! So cute!
ReplyDeleteThanks so much.
DeleteI love fall layers! You look great in that hat Amy!

Thanks!
DeleteOrange is such a beautiful fall colour! I am appreciating it more and more. Lovely outfit Amy.
ReplyDeleteIt really is; and there's so much orange in nature in the fall, I'm surprised more people don't think of it as a fall color. Thanks so much.
DeleteThis really is the perfect fall dress when you pair it up with the right layers as you did. I love clothes that can be used across seasons easily such as this. Nailed it! I am also curious what your favorite seasons are in order from favorite to least favorite.

Thank you so much. My absolute favorite season is spring because I love to see things come to life again after a long winter. I love all the bulbs that burst out of the ground and all the baby animals, and the spring blooming trees. My second favorite is summer because I love the warm nights, all the fun activities summer brings, summer produce and food, and of course flowers, flowers, flowers. My third favorite season is fall because I love the fall color and fall fashion, though I always find it bittersweet. And of course my least favorite season is winter mostly because it is so long. If it were shorter like it is in most states where February is considered spring, I could handle it. But our winters usually start in November (sometimes in October) and end in April or May.
DeleteThese colors look so great on you and the dress is beautiful! Like you, I love fall but hate seeing my pretty flowers and all the butterflies go and don't like the thought of anyone driving in the snow so it became my 3rd favorite season too. Still love all the fun things though fall has to offer.
ReplyDeleteLooking forward to your Branson travel series. We've been there over 20 years ago and I am sure lots of things have changed. And we didn't do much hiking then as we had our then almost 2 year old with us :) That waterfall looks amazing and love the swans!
Thank you Elli! I'm happy to have someone who has the same viewpoint of fall as I do. This was my third trip to Branson and probably the best. We had so much fun and I can't wait to share it. We didn't hike much for a change, and did some activities we had never done before.
DeleteSuch a pretty dress, Amy! I love how you made it work for fall with the jacket. Even on my short walks in the woods I notice how colors change all around—your outfit feels just like that, a gentle shift from summer into autumn. 💛
ReplyDeleteThank you for the inspiration!
Thank you so much. That is such a beautiful description: "a gentle shift from summer to autumn". I love that!
DeleteYou look great.. love the print and color of the dress.
ReplyDeleteThank you!
DeleteLove the photos! I'm EXACTLY the same about fall. I do enjoy it but there's also a certain sense of dread that comes with it because I know things get dark and cold after that. But I do try to focus on candles and coziness as much as I can. I do like wearing sweaters in the fall! Thanks for sharing this post with us at the Will Blog for Comments #69 linkup. We hope to see you sharing more posts, old or new, at #70 which opens Monday. Have a great weekend!
ReplyDeleteI'm so glad there are some people who feel the same way about fall as I do. There seems to be so much "I Love Fall" posts and ads out there.
DeleteLookin good Amy. I just love that autumn color dress on you.
ReplyDeleteThanks so much for sharing your autumn style with Sweet Tea & Friend's this month.
Thank you!
DeleteThis is such a pretty outfit! I never want summer to end but I do love autumnal colours.
