"Grandma and Me": A Very Special Link Up

I have a very special fashion post to share with you today;  my first fashion post with my new granddaughter!  Over the years, I have seen so many "Mommy and Me" fashion posts showing young moms with babies and toddlers, but I've never seen fashion posts with grandmothers or even older moms with older kids.  It's as if once the kids grow up we are no longer mothers, and we all know that isn't true!  No matter how old our children get, we never stop being mothers.  So just like I decided to do "Fashion Over Fifty"posts to break all the "age appropriate" stereotypes and fill a void for over-fifty fashion bloggers, I also want to take some time to honor grandmothers and older mothers too!

This is my very first grandchild, Alethea!  She is almost one month old in this picture.  Alethea has been very colicky ever since she was born and has not given her mother much rest.  I went down to Illinois for a few days to see if I could help out (I wasn't much help.  I couldn't stop her from crying either.  All she wants to do is nurse mom, and when she's not doing that she's crying).  But on this day, Alethea was SO GOOD!  It was the first time in weeks mom was able to get out of the house and enjoy herself.  The weather was beautiful!  We took Alethea for a walk in her stroller along the Naperville River Walk, and we had lunch at a sidewalk cafe.  Alethea slept through everything and her mother and I had a wonderful, perfect day!

Alethea and I both wore Chambray dresses.  Alethea's is new from Baby Gap (still available HERE), mine is from last season (Liz Claiborne, JCP).  I have previously shown it to you HERE and HERE.

I styled my chambray dress with blue cut out booties (old, Francescas), a brown Saddlebag, and for jewelry I wore a coordinating earring and necklace set and a gold bracelet.

Mom styled Alethea's dress with a pretty white hair bow.  Alethea's dress has a pretty eyelet detail in the yoke and hemline of the dress.  I love the fluttered sleeves too!  The dress includes a diaper cover as well.

Doing fashion photographing with a newborn has it's pros and cons.  The pros are it's so easy to smile when your holding something so precious!  No faking here!  And,  you don't have to worry about what to do with your hands when your holding onto a baby!  The cons are, posture!  You tend to push the tummy out to help stable the baby which is not what you usually want to do...normally we suck it in!  And of course, the obvious,...taking the photos when the baby is in a good mood!  This day, it was easy!  But the next day, we had to take pictures when Alethea was not in the mood...and it was a challenge!

Here is a picture of when we were eating lunch at a sidewalk cafe.  It shows the necklace and bracelet I was wearing better than the pictures where I was holding Alethea.

And here is Alethea asleep in her stroller where you can get a better view of her headband and dress. I've also included a photo from the Baby Gap website below.

Oh, I tell you I absolutely loved taking these photos with my precious new grand baby.  What a treasure she is!  These smiles are absolutely for real!

And now, I would love to see your posts with all of your grand babies.  They do not have to be fashion posts.  Any post or picture of you with your grandchildren is appreciated.  Or, maybe your the granddaughter or daughter and you have a special post to share...I'd love to see those too.  Please link up below.  I have no rules to this link up!  Just link up your post and if you know other grandmothers, encourage them to link up as well.  Old or new posts are welcome.  I'm going to try and do this as a regular feature of my blog, hopefully once a month!  It might not always be possible because Alethea lives six hours away from me and I don't know if I will always see her once a month.  But I'll aim to do one "Grandma and Me" link up the first Monday of every month!

Have a Great Day!  Amy

    1. Thank You! Alethea is the greek word for "Truth" in the New Testament. So when you spell the Greek using English letters Jesus says "And the "Alethea" (or "Truth) shall set you free". The baby's father also studied ancient languages in college and graduate school.

    6. Thanks Leslie. Ashley and Jason thought long and hard about choosing a name. The meaning of the name was very important to them.

  2. Hi Amy, you both look adorable, your granddaughter is so sweet. You or your daughter should look up someone that does Viseral Manipulation. It is a light touch hands on manipulation of the organs. There is one technique that works amazing for colic, where the sphincters along the intestines are lightly touched (from the outside of the body of course), which in turn helps them move in the right direction. I have had great success with this technique on colicky babies. Works like a dream in just one session.

  12. This was such a sweet post, Amy. I am enjoying reading and watching as you blossom in grandmother-hood. Isn't it such an incredible honor to be a grandmother? Alethea is a little doll. Her coloring is so pretty and very similar to yours. Lucky baby.

When you mentioned this post and link-up, I didn't think about sharing something where my granddaughters and I are wearing similar outfits. But by golly, I am going to get on that right now. Hope you will continue these link-ups and that very soon I can share a pics of the three of us stylin' a little something together over here.

Hope you are having a great start to the week :)
