Valentine Altered Treat Container

Hello! I had a very relaxing day off today, and it was much needed after 9 continuous work days! I spent most of the day in the kitchen baking Banana Bread and cooking a nice evening meal of scalloped potatoes and chicken drumsticks, I also dyed my 'roots' so that's done for the month, and the rest of my time was spent in my craft room making treat containers for Valentines. Even though my kids are in their twenties, I still like to send them treats for Valentine's, Easter, and Halloween. They both have such stressful lives with their college/graduate school studies and musical performances, I think a little gift in the mail helps lift their spirits a lot.

When making treat containers, I actually re-purpose and re-use old containers that I have saved through out the year. Whenever I see an unusual container, I look at it and think 'Mmm, I bet I could make this into something else, I better 'save it' and into a box it goes! Then during the various holidays through out the year, I pull out my box and I am always amazed at all the unique containers I have to make something with. Here is one of the treat containers I made today that I filled with Valentine Candy:
Here's a detail shot. I cut the heart with a Spellbinder's Die. The sentiment is a retired DCWV sticker, and I added the heart and key charm with a glue dot.

Now this is what the container was in it's first life! Isn't that amazing? I simply took the container apart, laid it on a piece of designer paper, traced around it, cut it out, and glued the paper onto the box. A few decorations later and wa-la I have a unique, one of a kind treat box!

I used 4 different sheets of designer paper to make my project. To add more interest, I added a punched brown lace paper border to the top and bottom of the sleeve.

I have lots more Valentine projects to show you later this week so stay tuned!

Have a great day! Amy
