Jordan's High School Scrap Book 'Concert Band'

Hello. Today I have another page my daughter Ashley did for my son's High School Scrap Book. Jordan was in Concert Band all four years of High School, so Ashley did an entire page dedicated to his commitment.

The first picture shows the page in its entirety. It shows Jordan playing a variety of percussion instruments. The pictures are mounted on a blend of solid card stock and musical designer paper. Here is a close up of the title and two of the pictures. I love her creative title!
Here is a close up of the other side of the page. The picture of the drum set and the musical instruments were photocopied off the computer and cut out.

Well the drama of my son's first semester in college never seems to end. My friends told me to expect lots of ups and downs, and more melt downs, and they were right. Jordan's email to me yesterday was 'Concert Band is gay, my piano teacher's a '.....', and I hate music right now.' O.k. So what's a loving mother suppose to do with that? Well, first I prayed, then I responded with a loving and wise email that hopefully straightened him out. I tell you, because that kid has such an artistic personality, he always has such extreme emotional mood swings that 'DRIVE ME CRAZY'. I'm sure tomorrow everything will be all wonderful again. UGH! He's 19 now. When will my role as mother ever end? I know, I know, no matter old your kids get, they still need you.
Have a great day! Amy

  3. Hi Amy,

I wanted to comment on your question. "When will my role as mother ever end? I know, I know, no matter old your kids get, they still need you."

My son is going to be 21 next month. He moved into his own condo 1 year and 7 months ago. He lives 4 miles from here...and visitations are sparce...even though we had a wonderful close relationship with him, all of his life.

I tell you this, to be glad that your son calls and shares how he is doing, and feeling. He doesn't mask it...big man on campus...he comes to you as your son. Take the most from every interaction you have. I know it is SO difficult to hear that our young-adult children are unhappy. At least, you kept your perspective...I want to congratulate you on going to your Heavenly Father before re-contacting your son. Great move! Great instincts! I just don't want you to miss out on anything...like I am. You must be a wonderful Mom for your son to seek you out.

There is an organziation called Campus Crusade for Christ. They are amazing...they have people on almost every campus around the world, that minister to the students, plan events with Christians and reaching out to non-Christians. I am sure they have a web site...it might be a great place for your son to make more friends, and be able to pray with, learn from, and commiserate with! I have nothing to do with the organization. I just know a lot about them. So, I am not trying to push it on you...I am just offering a fantastic resource!

    He IS Able,
    Traci S.

  4. LOL, I understand your frustration. For some reason I *thought* when they got older, things would be easier. Nope, bigger kids just mean bigger problems. Hugs to you and I hope he has a better day tomorrow.

GREAT pages! I finally scrapped something too (haven't scrapped in a LONNNNNG time). I really need to get back into doing it REGULARLY like I used to.

  5. Another great page. The title is very complementar to the theme.

My home life as a child was so bad I left as soon as I turned 18. I worked for a while before I went to college. I didn't have a parent (or anyone) to call when I was lonely or upset during that time. It may be stressful for you but you are probably also thankful that Jordan trusts you and keeps you in the loop about what's going on in his life.
