A Bright Yellow Top with Pastel Blue Pants From Stitch Fix

One of the best things about Stitch Fix is that your stylist gives you great suggestions on how to wear the pieces that you never would have thought of yourself. When I received this pretty yellow top in my May box from Stitch Fix my stylist suggested I try the top with the light blue pants I received in my April box. I never would have thought of pairing a bright yellow with a light pastel blue, but it worked, and I love it!

The top is by 41 Hawthorn and is called "Breyson Pleated Detail Blouse". It's a sheer, sleeveless top. I did not wear a cami under it for the photo shoot, but if I wore it out in public I would.

It has a nice length in the back. And I like the V neck plus the pleated detail down the front and back. The pleated detail gives the top a nice, loose, flowing look for summer.

I styled my new Stitch Fix pieces with old pieces from my closet; like this blue and natural straw bag from DSW and yellow bracelets.

My stylist also suggested I tie the look together with a scarf. I thought that was a great idea but didn't like a scarf hiding the pretty neckline of the top, so I wore it on my head instead!

Sandals are by Liz Claiborne.

I carried the yellow theme through the outfit with yellow statement earrings.

I love wearing headbands and headscarves in summer. You are never too old to wear them; no matter what anyone says. They are a great accessory for pulling the hair up and away from the face and neck on hot summer days.

It really surprised me how much I liked this color combo and I'm so happy my stylist suggested it!

Yellow With Black OR White

A few months ago Jeannie from A Pocketful of Polka Dots asked me to co-host her Ageless Style link up with her. She picked the theme "yellow". Now although I already owned a few yellow items, I wanted something new to show so I went shopping and picked out this light yellow top from Maurices. It's a really cute top with some interesting details, but when I saw the pictures I didn't think the pale yellow looked good on me. Whenever I co-host with someone, I want my outfit and/or pictures to look extra special, so back to the store I went. This time I picked out a top with bold, bright yellow flowers in it then I accented it with more bold yellow in my accessories. If you missed that post you can see it HERE.

Anyway, for today's fashion post, I thought I'd show you the light yellow top post that never made it to the blog along with how I ended up really wearing this top. The photograph on the left was how I styled the top for Jeannie's link up (but I never wore it this way). The photograph on the right is how I wore the top to church.

For the photo shoot, I styled the top with a white skirt, white sandals, and a white cardigan since it was still cold when the pictures were taken. I added yellow accessories to pull out more yellow in the outfit.

The skirt is by Worthington and has an exposed zipper in back.

I wore yellow and gold bracelets, rings, and carried a yellow bag from Charming Charlies.

My sandals I bought on clearance at the end of the summer last year at JCPenney.

The interesting detail in this top is the unique criss-cross neckline on the back of the top and the keyhole opening in the front.

Because of the unique opening in the front, I kept my necklace simple and went with a pearl necklace.

For my church outfit, the weather warmed up so I could ditch the cardigan. This time I paired the top with a black skirt, black sandals, yellow jewelry and a fun gingham bag.

The shoes I also purchased last year on clearance. It's fun to buy things at the end of the season. They are so inexpensive and when I pull them out of my closet the next year, it's a wonderful surprise because I usually forget I had them!

Gingham is very popular, but I don't like to wear it on me. A Gingham purse is the perfect way to incorporate the trend without wearing it on my body.

Ageless Style: Wearing Yellow

I'm so happy to co-hosting today with Jeannie from A Pocketful of Polka Dots and the other ladies of the Ageless Style Link-Up. Jeannie picked the theme of "Yellow" this month. I was thrilled with her theme and said "I have a few yellow items in my closet, but I'll keep my eye out for something new when I'm shopping". I ended up coming home with a pretty light yellow blouse from Maurices. I liked it when I tried the top on in the store, but when I saw the pictures after my photo session, I didn't think the light yellow looked good with my skin tone. So back to the store I went, and I found this top on clearance at TJMaxx for only $10.00. After seeing these pictures I learned a valuable lesson: shades of color matter. I look better in bright, warm, or hot colors! At least now anyways. That could all change in the summer when I have more of a tan.

It was so cold the day we took these pictures. Who am I kidding, it's been cold every day that's why I've been mostly photographing indoors. I wore my CJBanks black, faux leather jacket and a bright pink scarf for extra warmth. I carried a yellow bag for more color and to carry on with the yellow theme. This is spring dressing in Wisconsin folks! Wear bright colors so you can at least dress like spring, but still stay warm with plenty of layers, outerwear and scarves!

The black floral top is sheer; I wore a tank underneath. It also has large, flowing bell-type sleeves.

I highlighted the yellow flowers in my top with yellow earrings and bracelets, and I carried a bright yellow bag. I think it will be fun pulling other colors out of this top too like the bright blue and red. Wouldn't a bright red bag look great? Or how about a pair of bright blue shoes? I think I'll be able to create a lot of fun, different outfits with this top.

For footwear I went with black booties (old, Famous Footwear) as it's still too cold for sandals or flats.

These bright yellow, long earrings were the perfect accent jewelry with this top. I wore a variety of red, gold, and yellow bracelets on my wrist. I finished the look off with bright red lipstick and nail polish.
