How To Style Red Pants

I absolutely LOVE my new red pants from Stitch Fix.  They are so flattering, super comfy, and the color works great for summer and fall.  But styling red pants can be difficult as there are only three solid colors that really work well with red:  black, white, and blue.  I know it's a popular trend to combine red and pink together, and I love that look, but it's a little much for me.  I'm not quite ready to go that bold yet.

Since I've received my red pants from Stitch Fix two months ago, I've actually worn them quite often.    I've styled the pants with the traditional colors (black, white, and blue), but I'm always keeping my eye out for new tops to buy that will go with my red pants, especially for fall.

Here is a top I picked up at Ross in the spring, way before I received my red pants.  Isn't it stunning?  It has a sheer net Swiss dot panel in the chest and back with pretty red and pink flowers.  I guess that's one small way I can combine pink and red together!  It also has a little ruffle on the sleeve cap and neckline.

I'm going to wear my strappy red sandals as long as it's still warm, but if the temps were colder, a nude, black, or beige bootie would work with this outfit too.  My shoes are from Worthington.

Leopard print always, always, always goes great with red anything!  I love to use it as an accent when wearing red.  Here I am using a leopard print clutch, but leopard print shoes would work great with this outfit too (see last picture in this post).

For jewelry, I skipped a necklace since I had so much going on with the neckline in the top, and wore black and dull silver bracelets only.

Isn't the detail of this top just stunning?  I got it at such a great price.  I think I only paid $12.99 for it.  If you don't mind digging, and checking back often, you can find a lot of great clothing at Ross.

The top has such a nice length and is just the right looseness.  Not too boxy, like a lot a lot of looser fitting tops are.  The back is almost as pretty as the front.

Here are some other ways I've styled red pants in this past.

These are the same red pants styled with a light blue top that has a red embroidered design.  When going with a completely different color than the pants, it helps a lot if there is some red detail in the top.

Here are the same pair of red pants styled with a white top, but again, there is a little bit of red in the top so the contrast is not too much.

This is the first pair of red pants I ever owned.  My, have I aged since this picture was taken.  That's what menopause does to you!  haha!  Anyway, I no longer own these pants.  I bought them at Old Navy but I didn't check the washing label when I washed them and they shrunk in the length turning them into capris.  So I gave them to my daughter who is shorter than me.  That's why I asked Stitch Fix to send me a new pair.  I didn't want to take the chance with an Old Navy pair again.  Here I styled the red pants with...you guessed it...blue!  I wore white booties and added a beige belt to keep the look from getting too patriotic.

And here I styled those same Old Navy red pants with beige and white and leopard print flats.

So what do you think?  Which look is your favorite?  How would you style red pants?  I'd love to hear from you!

Red Pants and Blue Embroidered Smock Top

We had a cooler day in Wisconsin so I was able to wear my new red pants from Stitch Fix!  If you remember my Stitch Fix Review post I asked for red pants.  The first pair my stylist sent me were a burnt orange pair of capris...so back they went.  The following month she sent me a true red pair, ankle length, and I couldn't have been happier.

Ever since I received my new red pants, I've been on the look out for tops other than white or black that would go with them.  I spotted this lovely smocked embroidered top by Liz Claiborne when I was JCPenney and I snatched it up!  It's main color was not white or black, and I knew the red embroidery was a perfect match for my red pants.

This top is not meant to be off-the-shoulder, but I wore it that way because I thought it looked better.  It did pop back up every time I got in or out of the car, or if I lifted my arms up high, but other than that, it stayed in place quite well.

As I write this post, the top is on sale for less than $12.00 and comes in many different colors.  You can also see how the top is designed to worn on the website HERE.

To avoid looking too patriotic, I accessorized with silver instead of white.  I carried a silver cross body bag, and I wore silver bracelets.

My new red shoes by Worthington, also from JCP, were almost an identical match to my pants.  Wearing shoes the same color as my pants made my legs appear longer.

I kept the silver theme going by wearing a silver head band in my hair.  My earrings were a blue/light turquoise color to match my top.  Bright red lipstick finished the look.

The top is a little longer in back than it is in front.

Stitch Fix #17: I Got My Red Pants!

I am so excited to start a new Stitch Fix box review because I got my wish:  a pair of red pants!  If you read my review of my last Fix,  I asked for red pants and received a burnt orange pair of capris instead.  I really wanted a cherry red pair of ankle pants, so I sent them back.  I'm glad I did, because my stylist was able to find the perfect pair for me for my seventeenth Fix.

The pants are by Kut From The Kloth and are called the "Candace Split Hem Skinny Jean".

For photography purposes only,  I styled the pants with an old choker top from a.n.a from JCPenney.  I carried a black Liz Claiborne tote,  and completed the red theme with a red and silver bracelet and red shoes.

The pants fit pretty well.  I was worried that were a hair too big for me (as they are a stretch denim) but hubby didn't think so and didn't want me to request a smaller size.  And after looking at the washing instructions, they most likely will shrink a bit so it's probably good they are a bit loose.

My top went perfect with the pants for the red in the flowers matched the red in the pants very well.

My shoes are new this season.  I bought them at JCP for only $20.00 (plus coupon) but even though they have a chunky heel I find them a bit difficult to walk in.  I think it's because of the heel height.  The red in the shoes was almost an identical match with the red in the pants.  Wearing shoes the same color as my pants elongated my legs.  My husband loves the shoes, and wishes I would wear them more often.  So do I, but I can only wear them on days I know I won't be walking too much.

The shoes are by Worthington and are called Beckwith Women's Heeled Sandals.  They come in many different colors and patterns.

I am absolutely thrilled with my new red pants and I can't wait to wear them!  It's a great color for all seasons!  I'm also anxious to show you the rest of my Fix in my fashion posts to come, because it was a really great Fix:  I kept three things!

Have a Great Day!  Amy
