Ageless Style is a monthly style challenge and link up for women of all ages. Each month we pick a different theme and style an outfit based on that theme. This month's theme is "Rock Your Jeans" and was picked by Rosemary..
Welcome back to Ageless Style. We took last month off due to the holidays but we are back in full swing showing off our jeans. In years past, it always seemed only one type of jeans were in style and if you wore anything else you were considered out of style. But now, it seems anything goes when it comes to jeans. You can wear wide leg, bootcut, flare, straight leg, whichever style you prefer and you are still on trend. Even skinny jeans are still being worn, although they are trending out.
For this theme, I decided to show two new-to-me jean styles. I was growing tired of the skinny jean trend last year, so I went shopping and purchased a pair of wide leg jeans (the light blue pair on the left) and a pair of straight leg jeans (the black pair on the right). I really like them both, and I am more than happy to say "goodbye" to my skinny jeans.
Wide Leg Jeans Straight Leg Jeans
First let's talk about the wide leg jeans. These are a light wash. I have recently read that dark washes are more on trend so if you're going to invest in a new pair of jeans I would purchase a dark wash. However, I am happy to have a light wash option, especially in the spring.
The jeans are straight and wide right down to the framed hem. They have a looser fit, and are super comfy (unlike those tight fitting skinny jeans). The brand is Mavi.
I paired my light wash jeans with a complimentary color: periwinkle. Light wash jeans look great with navy, purple, pink, and light neutrals such as oatmeal, grey, white, and camel.
I'm wearing the same black Mia Jody Chelsea Boot with both my light wash wide leg jeans and my straight leg black jeans. The fact that I can wear the same style and color of boots with two completely different pairs of jeans shows how versatile this bootie is!
I wore this outfit when it was -25 degree windchill outside. The straight legs help balance out the oversize sweater. Wide leg jeans worn with this large sweater would have made me look like the Michelin Man 😂
So what about you? What style of jean is your current favorite? Are you still wearing skinny jeans, or did you ditch them? I'd love to hear from you!

I think my favorite type of jean is probably flare legged with wide leg being my least favorite (I just can't seem to style them in a way that flatters my body but I love the fit and comfort of them). But mostly I wear a variety of styles and color washes. Both of these are fun new looks!
ReplyDeleteI think the wide leg is harder to style especially is your petite or bigger on top, like me. For me I don't like flares. I feel silly in them, like I just stepped out of the 60s. I think straight leg is my favorite. Thanks so much.
DeleteI am with you, Amy; I love most of the cuts of the jeans available. Variety is the spice of life and I love have different choices for various occasions. Rosemary www.distinctlysouthernstyle.com
ReplyDeleteYes, it's wonderful we can wear any style of jean we want and still be on trend.
DeleteBoth look great on you but I think I prefer the straight. I tried several wide leg jeans but they don't do anything for my petite frame. My favorites are slim straight and flares because they look the most flattering on me. Following fashion blogs/stylist blogs I have definitely learned to wear what looks good on me (style and color wise) so I may try a trend but if it doesn't look good (on me) I just skip it and move on. But I do try to figure out why it doesn't work so I don't keep trying. I'm glad so many styles of jeans are available now and all can look stylish!
ReplyDeletePS: Also loving that cozy sweater you paired with the black jeans! Stay warm!!
Thank you. I prefer the straight too. I think wide leg jeans are hard to style on a petite frame like yours. Thanks so much. I bought the sweater last year but never got around to featuring it on the blog. It's so soft and cozy, perfect for those cold winter days, but it certainly does one's figure no favors ha ha!
DeleteI think I wear my wide leg jeans the most followed by straight leg. Those jeans look great on you! Both of these outfits are so cute and cozy!

You look awesome in your wide leg jeans. Thanks so much!
DeleteI love a wide leg jean which probably doesn't really work for me, but I love them anyway. They aren't quite the bell bottoms of my teens, but they're close enough. I never wore skinny jeans because they weren't for me. I do like straight leg jeans, though. I think your straight leg jeans look is my favorite because of the darker denim. I've got light denim, but it's not my favorite.

Yes, I was just saying to Ellie wide legs are hard to wear for a petite woman like yourself. You look great in your straight leg jeans.
DeleteYou did a great job styling both the straight cut and skinny jeans. I like skinny jeans for winter they are warmer and you can put leg warmers over them.

Thank you, but I'm not wearing skinny jeans in this post. The black jeans are straight cut, which are very similar to skinny jeans, just not as tight to the leg. The light blue pair are wide leg jeans. But yes, skinny jeans are warm. That's actually one reason I don't like them. They are only good on a very cold day. But they are nice for leg warmers and tall boots as you said.
DeleteYou purchased two great options! I really think you nailed the styling for each of the cuts of jeans! Good finds!

Thanks Bo!
DeleteI can appreciate jeans more and more. You look great in them, love them both!
ReplyDeleteThanks Nancy.
DeleteA year or so ago, I compared different styles of jeans and everyone preferred the straight leg or boot cut to all of my other pairs. You featured a pair on your blog that I loved on you and I bought a similar pair for myself. I think they are Liverpool. Very comfy. I have just picked up 2 pairs of straight leg jeans for $15 ea at Old Navy in preparation for this post....then didn't share them because I didn't have the energy to get dressed for pictures. The skinny look was fun but at 65 I am ready to be more comfy. Straight legs for the win. And you look amazing in yours. Very flattering fit.
ReplyDeleteI remember that, but has it really been a year? I never can find anything that fits right at ON even though I know so many women have a lot of luck there. Yes, straight legs are my favorite. Thanks so much.
DeleteNo, I could never do skinny jeans, so I'm glad to hear they're on their way out. I am not very trendy, either, so I stick with a straight leg curvy fit and it looks just how I like. :) Thanks for sharing this post at the Will Blog for Comments #22 linkup. Hope to see you next week at #23.
ReplyDeleteI understand, and you are perfectly in-style wearing a straight leg.
DeleteAmy, I enjoyed your post on styling two pairs of jeans. You did an amazing job. I love the periwinkle top and the light-wash jeans. The overall look was great, and I really liked how both pairs of jeans matched well with the black boots. I think the straight-leg jeans are my favorite! Thank you so much for sharing your post with us at The Crazy Little Love Birds link party #21.
ReplyDeleteThank you. I think straight-leg are my favorite too!
DeleteBoth styles look great on you. I love to wear jeans so thanks for the trend tips. Saw it at Senior Salon Pit Stop #294 link party. My shares this time are #110 through 116. Have a fabulous day. Nancy Andres @ Colors 4 Health
ReplyDeleteThanks Nancy! I'll be visiting you soon!
DeleteI love both styles! I don't wear jeans very often but my preferred style at the moment is wide leg in a dark wash. Thanks for linking up!
