A Comfortable Tie Dye Dress For Summer

I wore this dress to an outdoor church service followed by a picnic lunch and trip to the zoo.  It's a great dress if you want to be comfy in hot weather because the material is loose and thin.  It does show every lump and bulge, but if you don't have lumps or bulges, you don't need to worry about that.  I suppose if I wore Spanx underneath, I would have had a smoother look, but I don't believe in wearing those modern day torture devices except for very special occasions.  haha!

I purchased this dress for only $9.99 from JCPenney (no longer available, similar HERE).  And would you believe I only bought this dress to get free shipping?  I thought "Hmmm, spend almost $10 to ship, or throw this dress in the cart and basically get it for free?"  So, I bought the dress, even though I didn't need it, because I considered it "Free".  How many of you do that?

My husband bought these sandals for me from a local gift shop when we went out to lunch in a nearby town.  The support is absolutely amazing.  I've worn them all day and my feet never hurt!

For jewelry, I kept it simple and wore this lovely white and coral bracelet to match my dress.  It's from 10,000 Villages.

Lately when I've been getting dressed and figuring out my accessories to wear I've noticed I didn't have any rose gold earrings to match my rose gold necklaces or bracelets.  So I made a mental note to keep a lookout for some next time I was out shopping.  Well, I stopped at Francesca's and they had a lot of rose gold jewelry I loved, but I thought it was still pretty pricey even with a sale.  So I walked across the mall to Charlotte Russe and I found an entire set of beautiful rose gold earrings:  3 hoops and 3 studs for only $5.99.  I was worried they would hurt my sensitive ears being such cheap jewelry, but they did not!

DSW had their summer bags on sale so I picked up a couple I've had my eye on for awhile.  I needed a larger white tote, so I was thrilled to snag this one for $19.99 plus a 20% off coupon (sold out, similar HERE).

I love the fringe, the gold metallic embroidered detail, and the leather straps.

I find dresses and skirts so much more comfortable to wear in the summer than shorts.  I have only worn shorts outside the house twice this summer!  What about you?  Do you wear shorts or dresses in the summer?

Have a Great Day!  Amy

    1. Thanks Andrea! Yes, I like the tie dye on top too. I don't know if I would wear a full tie dye item.

  3. What a cute summer look! Love the coral and the sandals are gorgeous! Wish I could wear the flip flop style! I've only worn a dress once this summer for my daughter's dance performance...I feel more comfortable in shorts, but I am always freezing inside when the AC is on. Might have to keep an eye out for some maxi dresses and skirts. I am short so it's not easy to find them in my size.

And yes, guilty of adding things to an order to get free shipping. But only if I find something I *need*. Last week I ordered a dslr camera cleaning kit from amazon for $8...well, I had to throw a stamp set and ink pad in my cart to get to $25 free shipping, but I've had that stamp set on my wish list for a while and really needed that black ink pad :) :)

    1. Thanks Ellie! I have no issues with flip flops and find the so comfy, but my daughter tried wearing these shoes and the thong part that goes between the toes bothered her. Mine must be calloused because I could wear them all day! And the air-conditioning..yikes! It's just ridiculous inside some buildings..especially grocery stores.

  4. I love that the tie dye is only at the top. I like full tie dye too but with it only at the top it was perfect for the church picnic! I was so happy to hear that I'm not the only person in our age group who doesn't feel the need to wear Spanx under everything! In fact, I don't own any of those "torture devices" (hahaha - great phrase for them!) at all and really just prefer to wear (dressy) clothing that doesn't need them. And, yes!! I have gotten "free" items in order to get things shipped for free. It's kind of fun to pick out items that you might not otherwise have picked. I've been enjoying your blog this summer!

    1. Thank you! Yes, I love the tie dye at the top only as well. As for Spanx...ugh! I can't believe women wear them. It really isn't much different than the corsets of past centuries in my opinion. But, I will suffer wearing one for the occasional special event. haha! I'm so glad you've been enjoying my blog.

  9. So pretty and simple (I mean that in the best way). I honestly think I would just constantly be grabbing for this dress in the summer but I love how you've dressed it up with some pretty jewelery and the sandals. Love it!

    1. Thank you! I actually have worn it like 3 times this summer already...and that's a lot for me. I'm lucky if I get through my entire closet and wear everything at least once in a season.
