Hey girlfriends, guess what? I finally broke down and bought a pair of the Over-The-Knee Boots! I have been on the fence about them for three years now. I was afraid to spend a lot of money on something so trendy, but after three years, I don't think they are going anywhere soon. I still haven't seen any women wearing them in my hometown, but when I was in Minneapolis Christmas weekend everyone was wearing them. So I'm sure they will make an appearance in my town next year, since we are always behind the trends here.
It took awhile to find a pair I liked. I didn't want a flat, nor a spiky heel. I didn't think the flats were flattering in the OTK styles, and I can not walk in spiky heels. So when I saw these boots with a chunky heel at Famous Footwear, they seemed perfect for me!
The first time I wore my OTK boots was to go shopping. I was able to shop all day in comfort thanks to the chunky heel. But my favorite part was how much they kept my legs warm. It was below zero and I wore them with black leggings, yet I didn't feel the cold one bit.
Although it looked great, it was hard to notice the OTK boots with the black leggings, so I decided to try them with grey skinny jeans. I must say, I love this look much better. I like the contrast between the jeans and the boots.
Underneath my grey wool coat I have on one of the new sweaters I told you about on Friday's Post HERE. This is actually the exact same sweater but in a different color. It's also a Medium Tall so it's a tad longer than the grey one I have on in the other post which is just a Medium. I would have loved to have purchased them both in a Medium Tall, but this was the only one they had.
Of the four sweaters I bought that day, this one is my favorite. I just love the length, and of course, burgundy is one of my favorite colors to wear.
I purchased several new scarves and hats when I was out shopping with a dear old friend. The hat I'm wearing today is from last year, but the scarf I bought for only $10 at JCP. I told my friend while shopping that I feel hats and scarves not only complete an outfit, but you can totally change the look of an outfit by just changing out the scarf and hat!
My gloves and purse were both gifts from my daughter. The gloves are by Michel Kors and the purse is from Charming Charlies.
Here are some close ups of my new Over-The-Knee boots. They are by Madden Girl and although I tried them on at Famous Footwear I wanted to think about them so I waited to purchase them (like three years of thinking wasn't enough, I know). But it ended up being a good thing that I did wait because I found them on-line at DSW for $10.00 less.
My wool peacoat is by Worthington. I bought it at JCP years ago but don't wear it much. I think it's lovely, it's just a tad tight in the back and it's really not warm enough for my climate to get much use out of it. But it's still a nice alternative to have in my coat closet!

DeleteGreat new boots! I have been wanting a pair for about a year now but still had yet to find a pair that I liked enough and weren't an arm and a leg. I'll have to wait until next year to revisit that since I'm taking a break from clothes shopping for 2017.

Thanks Erica. I know what you mean, I think that's why it took me three years to buy a pair. I have a hard time spending that much on footwear. $50 is my usual limit, although I will go up to $100 once in a while. I too am on a clothing spending freeze. I simply don't need one more thing. I'll wait to spring to add a few new items. These boots were also part of a Christmas present from my hubby. He really thinks they are sexy and wanted me to have a pair. If it wasn't for him, I probably never would have bought them, but he seemed to really want me to get them. :)
DeleteLove this look, so cosy. The sweater is balanced beautifully with your lovely new boots and snood. The heels on the boots look like they'll be very easy walkers.
ReplyDeleteThank you, and yes, they are so easy to walk in. I've decided after having a closet full of shoes I can't walk long distances in that I would never buy another pair of shoes I can't walk in.
DeleteSuch a warm cozy look! Those OTK boots look great! I'm still looking for a pair because I'm only 5'2 and just not sure how high up they will go (not wanting the Julia Roberts Pretty Woman look) These look really cute though!

Thank You! I know exactly what you mean about OTK boots, that's why I hesitated so long to buy a pair. I'm 5'7 and I think I have long legs, and these boots barely go over the knee cap. They should probably be a bit higher on me. Part of the problem is they keep sliding down. I will have to tighten the back strap. But at the same time, I think if they were higher they would feel too "Julia Roberts Pretty Woman Look"...so maybe this is a good alternative for me. Also, I think the heel helps from keeping the look too seductive. A tall, spiky heel is more sexy than a chunky heel like mine. I really like this pair, other than the fact that they fall down a bit.
DeleteI still need to get a pair! I am worried I won't wear them though, because I really haven't seen anyone wear them here. I'm in St. Louis... hmmm. If I could find a pair that isn't too expensive tho and with a lower heel, I think I'd get them! I love yours and how you styled them with that chunky scarf and bright sweater.

I totally understand Carrie as I had the same reservations. I haven't seen anyone wear them in my neck of the woods, but it seemed everyone was wearing them in Minneapolis; so I'm surprised to hear they aren't wearing them in St. Louis. Maybe it's not cold enough there?
DeleteLove your new boots on you! I have a pair I love! They really do help keep your legs warm!
