Valentine Packaging

Hello!    If you remember my Valentine Ideas post,  where I posted great Valentine projects, decor, and fashion I found on the web, I stated in that post that I couldn't share my own creations till the people I love receive them.  To my surprise, due to the speedy service of the United States Postal Service, my children received their Valentine packages early, so now I am able to post them on my blog.  Pictured below are a couple of things I sent to my daughter and son-in-law.

First up, a Valentine.  The image is old and is from Gina K. Designs.  I picked it because I loved the sentiment for a card for a couple, and we just saw beautiful flamingo's at the zoo in Albuquerque.  I used a very simple layout, and the same colors one would see on the birds.  The white background was embossed with a Cuttlebug Embossing Folder and the felt hearts were pre-made & purchased from a fabric and crafts store.
I stamped the sentiment on Vellum so that you could still see the image behind it.
For my next Valentine project, I wrapped a candy bar with pretty, romantic paper from Crafty Secrets and adorned it with bits of lace, trim, ribbon, and artificial flowers.
This is the candy bar.  Most Valentine candy already is wrapped and adorned for Valentine's so additional wrapping isn't necessary to me.  However, my daughter only eats organic foods, and that wasn't available in a pretty Valentine package, so I just created my own.
I'm not going to give you measurements and details on how I created my own packaging because unless you buy this exact candy bar, the measurements will be different.  It is very simple to cover anything, no matter what the size of your object, with paper.  To cover this bar I simply laid the chocolate bar on top of designer paper,  scored the size of the bar,  and then made a second score a little more than the depth of the bar.  I then cut my paper, folded on the scores, and glued the sides together.  To make the top, I added a separate piece of paper, scoring again at the top, and only glued the back of this paper to the back of the candy bar.  I then stuck two pieces of adhesive backed Velcro dots underneath the tab so the recipient could open and close the package.
The tag is pre-made and is from Martha Stewart.  All I did was stamp a sentiment on it.  The flowers are not paper crafting flowers, but are small, silk flowers.  I just popped the heads off, leaving just a bit of a stem, and glued them in place.  I found the small flowers in my stash.  I never throw anything out, no matter how small.  I keep every bit of artificial leaves, ribbon, and trim for I never know when I'll need them.  So many items can be re-purposed.  I save little strings from clothing tags, interesting pins, broken jewelry pieces, chains, anything….you never know when you can use it a card or project and it saves money not having to buy embellishments.
Here is the back of the bar.  See the line is on top of the bar?  That is the second piece of designer paper that makes the flap that opens and closes.
The designer paper was reversible.  I just switched which side I was going to show on the package.
And there you have it.  An ordinary candy bar turned into Valentine candy.  If you don't want to go through all this trouble, you could also just wrap the bar in pretty Valentine wrapping paper (like a present) and add a lovely tag.  But I didn't have any Valentine wrapping paper, only designer paper, so I chose this option.

What about you?  Do you create pretty packaging for your Valentine treats?  I'd love to hear from you!

Have a great day!  Amy
