Fashion Over Fifty: Mad for Red

Hello!  For this week's Fashion Over Fifty post I'm back wearing my red pants.  I first wore them HERE back in February and  I have not worn them since.  It's not that I don't love them, I do, I'm mad for red;  but they are hard to style.  Back in February I wore them with a white shirt and tan cardigan, and at the end of my post I asked my readers for their opinions on how they would style red pants.  A lot of people said that they like to combine navy and red together, so I decided to try that out.  I was worried about appearing to patriotic with that color combo, but I think because I chose a more blue/grey chambray shirt, that fear never came to pass.

Almost everything I have on is from Old Navy, which is funny, because I really don't shop there that much.  But my red Pixie ankle pants, chambray shirt,  bracelet, and the striped blue and white tank top were all purchased there.

I wore a multi strand pearl, silver and black chain necklace to bring a little more femininity to the outfit. Chambray shirts can come across a bit industrial or masculine if your not careful, so I find it's always best to add a feminine element wearing chambray.
The silver in the Old Navy bracelet echoes the silver chain in the necklace.
I added a camel colored belt for more interest and to break up the red, white and blue color theme.
My booties I found last winter at Francesca's and this was the first time I wore them.  I'm always looking for interesting shoes, but sometimes they end up so interesting that I end up not wearing them because they don't go with anything.  These booties are also cut out booties which make them even harder to wear because you can only wear them during what I call the 'in-between seasons':  spring and fall.  They are too warm to wear in the summer, and because of the cut outs, you can not wear them in a Wisconsin winter.  But they are cute aren't they?
I love all the straps and buckles, and the chunky heel.  They are very comfortable to walk in.  They are slightly on the bulky side though, especially if you have large size 9 feet like I do!  So that's probably another reason I never wore them:  their large, chunky look just doesn't flatter a lot of my outfits.
I really like the texture on these boots too.
I'm not sure you will be seeing me in these red pants again.  I accidentally threw the pants in the dryer.  The instructions said to 'line dry', but really, who looks at washing instructions when they are throwing in a load of wash?  Well they did shrink, and although they still fit, they just don't look the same.  They fit more like leggings than pants, and I'm just so upset with myself for throwing them in the dryer.  I did go on the Old Navy web site to warn future buyers not to put their pants in the dryer, and I was surprised to read that a lot of buyers actually put their pants in the dryer on purpose to reshape them because they said they stretch out after wearing them.  So, I'm going to try just wearing my pants around the house one day and see if they stretch out again.  Wish me luck!  I really love my red pants.

Have a great day!  Amy

  1. Another great outfit! I love the added jewelry. Hopefully you'll still be able to wear the pants. It is hard for me to remember to line dry things too, once they are in the washer.
