Keeping Warm In OTK Boots

When the weather gets very cold, the Over The Knee Boots come out.    I have to be honest and say that even though I own three pairs of OTK boots,  I still don't feel comfortable wearing them.  But, they are so, so warm!  They are perfect for frigid weather, you know when it's so cold out your legs freeze through your jeans.  But not if I have OTK boots on,  I don't feel the cold at all.  So I put on my brave face, and wear my OTK whenever the temps drop to the single digits, because these babies keep my legs warm.

When I appeared before my husband for our photo shoot wearing this outfit he said "That's what you're wearing?  It's all old stuff".  I replied,  "Well, I like to show new items but I also feel my fashion posts are about what I really wear, and this is what I really wore this week!".  So yes, everything in this outfit is a year old or more.  The classic cable knit sweater is my go-to sweater for really cold weather and it is super warm!

I purchased these boots from Agaci last year and they have really held up well.  I didn't want to spend a lot of money on OTK boots because I wasn't sure how much use I would get out of them.

For jewelry, I kept it simple and wore western style bracelets I picked up on my vacation to South Dakota.

I do recommend purchasing OTK boots that tie in the back, as my first pair did not and I always have a problem with them slipping down.

So what about you?  Do you have any go-to pieces that you like to wear when the weather gets frigid?  I'd love to hear from you.

How To Wear Over-The-Knee Boots

I feel this post needs to come with a "Warning Label" as I know this look isn't going to be for everyone.  I have to admit that when Over-The-Knee Boots first came on the scene a few years ago I was skeptical.  It took me awhile to get use to them, and eventually I started to like them enough to want a pair for myself.

I bought my first pair of OTK Boots last year.  I started with baby steps:  I bought a black pair with a  low shaft.  But, I had problems with them constantly slipping down on me  because the shaft was too low and there was only a buckle, not a tie, in the back to hold them up.  However, despite the problems, I learned I really liked OTK boots because they kept my legs super warm in winter...especially when wearing a dress.  So this year, after I learned my mistakes from my first pair of OTK boots, I purchased a new pair.  This time I went with a different color with a taller shaft and a tie in back.  And guess what?  They actually stay up!

I bought my OTK boots at A'GACI in the Mall of America.  Although A'GACI does have an on-line store, these boots are not available on their website (They do however have plenty of other OTK boots at great prices!).

I got these OTK boots for a steal:  $23.00!  They were normally $39.00, but were on sale for $27.00 then I used a code off my phone and got them even cheaper.  For boots as trendy as these, and also something I will probably wear only a half a dozen times or less this season, I really didn't want to spend a lot of money on them.

I went with a sand color because I thought it was more neutral than a dark tan or chocolate brown and the boots would therefore go with more outfits.  They looked great with my new a.n.a. Embroidered Jeggings because they picked up the neutral color in the embroidery.

I love the tie in back because I can make the shaft as tight (or loose) as I need to keep the boots up so they don't sag.  The tie is far more versatile than the buckle of my black OTK boots because I can adjust these boots to fit over tight, leggings, jeans, or bare legs.

The block heel makes the boots super easy to walk in.  And yes, yes, yes, the boots are super warm!
Goodbye frozen legs in winter!

I wore my new OTK Boots with a long sleeve burgundy tee with a neutral camisole underneath and a faux fur vest on top.  Because we were traveling in a car and I wanted to be comfortable, I wore jeggings instead of regular jeans.  I added a fun brown felt hat and carried a burgundy bag.

This is the look without the fur vest.

I wore this look to the Twin Cities for a weekend away with my husband.

A lot of women are still afraid to take the plunge and buy a pair of Over-The-Knee Boots.  I say, go for it.  Give it a try.  Start with an inexpensive pair (don't worry they won't sag if you buy the kind that tie in back) They are so versatile and practical if you live in a cold climate like I do.  I use to hate wearing dresses in the winter because my legs would get so cold!  Now I don't have to worry about that anymore!  OTK boots really go with anything.  Here are some looks from last year where I am wearing my black OTK boots.

Co-Hosting The Fabulous Friday Link Up with Jennie!

I'm so excited to be co-hosting the Fabulous Friday Link-Up with Jennie.  She is one of my favorite style bloggers.  Jennie not only has an amazing sense of style, but I love her because she is so supportive of others in the blogging community as well.

I really wanted to have a nicer outfit to show for my co-hosting debut with Jennie, but I had one heck of a week!  It was a challenge just to get dressed up and have these photographs taken.  My husband and I started renovating our master bedroom and we have just been so busy.  We hope to have the flooring installed and the new bed put together this weekend.  The rest of the renovation should be a piece of cake after we had to do so far!

So this simple outfit is all I have to show you.  This is what I wore to church on Sunday, out-to-lunch, and then off to Ashley Furniture to pick up our new bed!  When we got home, we scrambled outside quickly to take pictures before the sun went down!

It's a simple outfit of straight leg jeans with a black tee shirt, a eggplant ruffle cardigan, black over-the-knee boots and a black hat and bag.

I did try to jazz it up a bit with a clingy necklace and bracelet and a felt hat.

Everything I have on is from last season or beyond besides the over-the-knee boots.  They are by Madden Girl and I purchased them from Famous Footwear.

My black tote is a mix of a snakeskin print and a solid black.

My necklace is a mix of clear, white, and charcoal grey stones with a hint of crystals.

I had to stand in the shade because the sun and snow were too intense.  But then my flash didn't work for some of the pictures, that's why some pictures look much brighter and more focused than others.  Like I said, we had a very busy week.  I think we took these pictures in less than five minutes.  Plus it was freezing outside and we did not want to be outside any longer than necessary.  I know, bad blogger.

And now enough about me, and onto the the Fabulous Friday Link Up!

Charcoal Grey Sweater with Burgundy Leggings

The past couple of weeks I have been showcasing some new long sweaters I bought at JCPenney for only $6.24 each after coupon and a gift card.  I love to wear leggings in the winter, but I want my tops to cover both my backside and my front side.  I can't even begin to tell you how difficult it is to find tops long enough.  No wonder so many women are wearing "Leggings as Pants".  So when I found all these sweaters at JCP on sale for $14.99, I bought one of each!

On this day I paired my charcoal sweater with burgundy leggings.  But I also wore this sweater with black pleather leggings on another day and I really like that look much better.  Unfortunately I don't have any pictures of that look.

I paired my new sweater with another new beanie...yes, I have a problem.  "My name is Amy, and I'm a beanieaholic".  ðŸ˜Š  I bought so many new beanies this year!  I can't help myself.  They are so cute!  This one I picked up at Forever 21 for only $4.99.  My scarf is from a previous season.

I carried a snakeskin print silver metallic cross body bag.

My new OTK boots that I got for Christmas have turned out to be quite practical for my climate.  I was always afraid of investing in a pair because I didn't think I'd get much use out of them.  But they are wonderful for keeping my legs warm and I reach for them before any of my other boots.

I haven't gotten around to punching another hole in the back strap to tighten them, so they keep slipping down on me.  That's the only thing I don't like about them.  I did just read a tip on another blog that stated that you should look for an OTK boot that has a higher shaft because they stay up better.  That's a good tip and if I ever buy another pair I will keep that in mind.  However, I had such a hard time even finding a style I liked in a price point I liked;  plus I needed to take baby steps in the OTK boot department.  I was afraid I would be uncomfortable wearing a pair that was too high.

I went up a size in this sweater and bought a size Large because it has a drop sleeve and the medium was a tad un-comfy in the arms.  Also, if I went up a size, it was a little bit longer, which I liked.

My burgundy leggings are also from JCP.

If you missed my last three posts featuring my other three long sweaters, they are HERE, HERE, and HERE.
