Even though we started working on our garden as soon as the weather was warm enough, because so much construction was involved to build the beds and pathways, the plants were a little late getting into the ground. So if it looks like my plants should be bigger by now, or producing more veggies by now, that is the reason why. We also had a woodchuck get into our garden before it was completely fenced in and he ate most of my salad greens and broccoli.
Anyway here are a couple of videos. The first one is ten minutes and gives a complete garden tour where I share all the veggies I planted. The second video is a short three minute video of our cat Jackson venturing outside for the first time in four years. When we designed the vegetable garden, we wanted it to also be a little safe, enclosed, outside playground for our kitty. We have lots of feral cats, coyotes, fox, and predatory birds in our backyard, so we do not let our sweet, beloved kitty outside. With the new garden, now he can enjoy being outdoors and stay safe at the same time.
Finally, here are a few pictures I took of the vegetable garden in progress. The picture below was taken from inside the house looking out. This was before the fence went up. You can see the vegetable garden through the sunroom windows. I wasn't sure how I would like that, but now that's it done I love it. It's as if the vegetable garden is part of the sunroom now.
View from the balcony in the sunroom.
Here I am standing in the far west side looking east. This is the garden off the porch, in the distance is the garden off the sunroom. The gravel path separating the two garden still have to to be paved to prevent weeds.
These two pictures face south and shows my garden shed in the lower garden along with my perennial flower gardens.
I hope you enjoyed my videos. I'll be back with another one when it's completely finished and hopefully some flower pictures too!
Have A Great Day! Amy

que pasada todo lo que tienes en tu casa, me encantarĂa, a mi solo me han salido rabanos y sandias.
ReplyDeleteI hope to have watermelon. I planted one, but it seems to be growing slowly and we don't have a very long summer here in Wisconsin.
DeleteVery nice on both counts. Thanks for sharing with us. Very nice.
ReplyDeleteThank you.
DeleteThat looks incredible! What a big undertaking but one that you'll enjoy for years to come.
ReplyDeleteYes, it was a big undertaking and took us a lot more time than we thought it would, but it's so worth and the investment will definitely pay off. I've already noticed a big slice in the grocery budget.
DeleteThe view from your home is amazing and I like your garden. It look very beautiful. Also your kitty is so cute.

Thanks so much! I love my kitty!
DeleteWow what a beautiful garden you have. Everything looks so perfectly cultivated and organised. We have such a tiny garden, I wish we had more space so we could too grow some lovely home grown vegetables xo

Thank you. This is actually a small amount of space in front of our house. I have a huge large, but its mostly flower gardens and shade. This was the only spot that got a lot of sun suitable for a vegetable garden.
DeleteYour husband did an amazing job building the fencing around the garden. And I'm jealous at all the veggies you're growing! I think I need to extend mine to make room for zucchini and beans. Would you believe I've never had much luck with radishes!!! I think it's because it gets too hot too quickly here. Also never had much luck with broccoli or kale probably because of the same reason!
ReplyDeleteSo nice that Jackson can now be outside too!
Yes he did! He worked so hard! Yes, radishes, broccoli, and kale are all cool season crops. Try planting radishes in the fall. I'm gonna plant some more myself. My broccoli isn't doing well. I have two different varieties and one seems to be growing better than the other. They are both just leafy and I'm not seeing any "fruit". My kale is actually very small compared to my friends. Her's is huge, but I noticed she had it growing on the side of the house where it gets some shade. I think next year I will be so much better prepared and will plant things in different spots and they will do better. I have to remember to take notes , make a garden calendar, and a sketch.
DeleteWow what an extensive vegetable garden you have there.
ReplyDeleteThanks so much!
DeleteYears ago we lived in a home with an enclosed outdoor area for our cats. It was great.
ReplyDeleteThat's awesome that you enjoyed it so much.
DeleteWow!! What a great garden. I have always enjoyed seeing photos of your lovely yard. Thank you for this guided tour. And Jackson's new space!! I am sure he is in pig heaven. Our kitties go out in the back yard and one likes to jump our rock wall so we have to be on guard. We are talking of raising the rock wall all the way around so the kitties can be outdoors but not stray. They love being out there!!
ReplyDeleteThank you! Yes, Jackson loves it outside. He runs down the stairs and stands by the door like a little puppy dog asking to go outside. That's great that the rock wall you have helps to keep your kitties in.
DeleteOh my goodness! I love everything about this! What a beautiful home.
ReplyDeleteThanks so much!
DeleteYour vegetable garden is a DREAM !!! Absolutely love it.
ReplyDeleteThank you! When my husband first described to me what he wanted to build, I just thought it sounded hideous. But it's such a beautiful space now.
DeleteThis is such an amazing area you've created!! It not only serves purposes but it's also beautiful to spend time in- love it!! Have a great weekend xx
ReplyDeleteThanks Lucy!
DeleteThanks Marilyn!
