Crafty Secrets Garden Challenge

Hello!  It's still cold and rainy here in Northwestern Wisconsin.  Our high today was 58 degrees.  I'm writing to you with my spring coat still left on from work because it's cold in my house.  Oh, the winter that will never end.  So what better to do than create a spring card for the Crafty Secrets Garden Challenge.  If I can't have warm weather in real life, at least I can see it in pictures!  I had purchased a lot of these beautiful vintage pictures from Crafty Secrets during Christmas Time as a Christmas gift to myself (along with almost all the stamp sets I ever dreamed of owning before they disappear since Crafty Secrets is now a digital company) but hadn't used any before now.  They were just too pretty to cut up.  But I really wanted to try one so I chose this beautiful bird and flower image to make an Anniversary card.  My layout is from Splitcoaststampers (SC382) and the paper is from Prima.

 I sprayed some shimmer mist on the image before assembling the card.  Boy, did that make a difference!  It is so sparkly and pretty in real life.  This is a also a new Spellbinder's die, but I had a lot of trouble with it.  Part of the frame did not cut clean or want to come out of the die.  I had to try three times before I was successful and I also had to use a much thinner card stock than I normally do.  Has anyone else had trouble with the more intricate dies before or is just me?  Maybe I got a defective die, I don't know.  I've never had trouble with their other dies, but this is the first one I bought that was so intricate.
I've never been one for a lot of embellishments on cards, and with this beautiful image and intricate die I didn't feel much more was needed, so I only added a simple organza bow and yellow ribbon flower.

    Gorgeous anniversary card Amy and I do love the die cut. I have frequently encountered dies that are hard to punch through, sometime an extra shim helps or turning the die around so it rests on a different part of the plate but often it just requires a lighter cardstock. I have heard that using foil works well too. Anyhow, love your card!

    Oh this card is superb, love the sweet image, your paper is wonderful and love the big bow !

    This is beautiful, Amy!! Gorgeous image and I love the gauzy bow!!

    I don't have any really intricate dies, but I was watching a video about die cuts (can't remember which company) and they used a piece of wax paper under the paper in the die to get it to release. It might be worth a try.

    Love this card Amy, the image is gorgeous and I agree it doesn't need a lot of embellishments to create a beautiful card with it.

    The die is so beautiful too. I have a big kick, and sometimes I put a couple pieces of plain card stocks or a piece cut from a cereal box on top of the plastic cutting pad. It really helps, but it's a little harder to turn the handle. Hopefully I won't break my machine that way one day...so far it's been ok. Not sure if this works with the cuttlebug.
