Snowy Winter Day Outfit...On The First Day of Spring!

This is my last winter fashion post of the season.  I don't care how cold it gets.  I don't care if we get dumped on with yet another blizzard in April.  I refuse, I absolutely refuse to do one more winter fashion post when it is officially spring.  This is why I get SO MAD when all the fashion bloggers start screaming "I Love Fall" and wearing their chunky sweaters, tall boots, and blanket scarves in August...because in Wisconsin are winters are long enough.  I will not make them any longer by dressing for it in August.

Anyway, rant over.  These pictures were taken last week Sunday.  On the first day of daylight savings time.  I wore it to see a matinee with my husband, lunch, and then some shopping.  When we got home, it was still light enough to take pictures, but then it started to snow, like crazy!  But it ended up giving us some very nice pictures and hopefully a pretty final farewell to winter.

Everything I am wearing is old.  I know, I'm beginning to sound like a broken record.  I didn't buy a whole lot of new winter items this season because there weren't a lot of new styles and I already had more winter clothes than I knew what to do with.  I did do a major overhaul of my closet and got rid of about 1/3 of my clothes.  I donated basically everything that didn't fit well, was uncomfortable, made me feel unattractive in it, or I simply tired of.   I then took inventory of my closet and started buying some new spring pieces;   mostly pants and tops.  I came to the conclusion that I only liked stretch denim and I also wanted higher waist pants.  I'm tired of wearing  the low rise that use to be so popular a few years back.  I need to 'tuck it in' if you know what I mean.  I also find regular denim...how they used to make jeans...now so uncomfortable and I only want to wear the stretch denim.

This is a long tunic sweater that I last showed you HERE.  This time I paired it with black ponte knit pants (Worthington, JCP), and an old black vest.  The vest is super thin so it doesn't add a lot of extra bulk but still keeps me warm.  I often wear it around the house on cold winter days.  The last time I showed you this vest was HERE.

The sweater is a Medium Tall so it's extra long.  Sweaters can't be long enough in my opinion, especially if I want to wear them with leggings.

Because I wore a scarf, the only jewelry I had on was this gold bracelet from Charming Charlie's.

The vest is only quilted in the front which really eliminates extra bulk.  I own three winter puffer vests.  This thin one, a medium weight white puffer vest, and a very thick burgundy puffer vest.  I think it's important to have a variety of puffer vests in different thicknesses and colors because I used all three of them for different purposes.  This vest I wear either indoors or when the weather isn't that cold. In contrast, my burgundy thick puffer vest I practically wear as a winter coat because it's so toasty warm.

I absolutely love these fur infinity scarves.  They are so soft and toasty warm. I have three of them, this pretty leopard print scarf, one in tan, and one in black.

My ankle booties are by Liz Claiborne sold at JCP a few years back but they still have similar styles available.

And that's it for my very last winter fashion post of the year!  See you on Friday with a spring fashion post...warm weather or not!

Have a Great Day!  Amy

My New Over-The-Knee Boots

Hey girlfriends, guess what?  I finally broke down and bought a pair of the Over-The-Knee Boots!  I have been on the fence about them for three years now.  I was afraid to spend a lot of money on something so trendy, but after three years, I don't think they are going anywhere soon.  I still haven't seen any women wearing them in my hometown, but when I was in Minneapolis Christmas weekend everyone was wearing them.  So I'm sure they will make an appearance in my town next year, since we are always behind the trends here.

It took awhile to find a pair I liked.  I didn't want a flat, nor a spiky heel.  I didn't think the flats were flattering in the OTK styles, and I can not walk in spiky heels.  So when I saw these boots with a chunky heel at Famous Footwear, they seemed perfect for me!

The first time I wore my OTK boots was to go shopping.  I was able to shop all day in comfort thanks to the chunky heel.  But my favorite part was how much they kept my legs warm.  It was below zero and I wore them with black leggings, yet I didn't feel the cold one bit.

Although it looked great, it was hard to notice the OTK boots with the black leggings, so I decided to try them with grey skinny jeans.  I must say, I love this look much better.  I like the contrast between the jeans and the boots.

Underneath my grey wool coat I have on one of the new sweaters I told you about on Friday's Post HERE.  This is actually the exact same sweater but in a different color.  It's also a Medium Tall so it's a tad longer than the grey one I have on in the other post which is just a Medium.  I would have loved to have purchased them both in a Medium Tall, but this was the only one they had.

Of the four sweaters I bought that day, this one is my favorite.  I just love the length, and of course, burgundy is one of my favorite colors to wear.

I purchased several new scarves and hats when I was out shopping with a dear old friend.  The hat I'm wearing today is from last year, but the scarf I bought for only $10 at JCP.   I told my friend while shopping that I feel hats and scarves not only complete an outfit, but you can totally change the look of an outfit by just changing out the scarf and hat!

My gloves and purse were both gifts from my daughter.  The gloves are by Michel Kors and the purse is from Charming Charlies.

I felt the metallic gold purse was a nice soft contrast to all the neutrals;  and I love how the gold studs in the gloves echo the gold color of the handbag.

Here are some close ups of my new Over-The-Knee boots.  They are by Madden Girl and although I tried them on at Famous Footwear I wanted to think about them so I waited to purchase them (like three years of thinking wasn't enough, I know).  But it ended up being a good thing that I did wait because I found them on-line at DSW for $10.00 less.

They are made of a thin black suede and are very easy to get on and off.  I love the buckle detail in the back and on the side. My only negative remark would be that they tend to slide down on me.  I do have very thin legs, so maybe that's the problem, I don't know.  I'm going to try to punch another hole in the strap to make it tighter behind the knee and see if that helps.  Does anyone else have this problem with OTK boots, and if so, what do you recommend?

My wool peacoat is by Worthington.  I bought it at JCP years ago but don't wear it much.  I think it's lovely, it's just a tad tight in the back and it's really not warm enough for my climate to get much use out of it.  But it's still a nice alternative to have in my coat closet!
