Outerwear for all Seasons with Ageless Style

Ageless Style is a monthly style challenge and link up for women of all ages.   Each month we pick a different theme and style an outfit based on that theme.  This month's theme is "Outerwear" and was picked by Me!

This month it was my turn in our Ageless Style group and I chose "Outerwear".  All the ladies in our group are from all over the United States and Canada, so we experience many different types of weather and thus should have many different types of outerwear to show you.

I have gone through many different coats in my lifetime.  Some I have had for decades, and others I didn't keep long, but here are some of my favorites.

WINTER

You can't survive the winter in Wisconsin without a parka.  A couple of years ago I purchased this white parka and boy is it a head turner!  Everywhere I go someone comments on it.  I usually wear it when I have a lot of dark colors on already because all my other parkas are black, so rather than look like a column of black, the white parka provides a nice contrast.  Now you might wonder if it stays clean and my answer is "yes and no".  The collar always gets my make up on it (unless I wear a scarf) so I always have to spot wash the collar after every use.  Other than that, yes, it does stay remarkably white.  It is machine washable, I just have to remove the collar and belt.

This long parka is down-filled and I usually save it for the coldest weather or occasions, like hiking in the snow!

My last winter coat is the classic red pea coat.  Honestly, I hardly ever wear it because it's just not warm enough for a Wisconsin winter and when it is warm enough, a lighter jacket is more suitable.  However, I hang on to it because it is super cute and it's nice to have on hand to create a special look.

SPRING

I probably have more spring jackets than any other type because our springs in Wisconsin can be on the chilly side.   My favorite spring jackets are usually white like this white faux-leather jacket pictured above.  I love white jackets in spring because they go with any other color, especially the pastels I normally wear this time of year.

Denim jackets are the perfect spring add on to keep the chill at bay.  I have both a classic blue denim jacket (pictured above) and a white denim jacket (pictured below).  Denim goes with just about anything, and it's such an easy way to dress-down a outfit if it's a little too fancy for your occasion.

And lastly is the classic trench.  This should be a must-have coat in every woman's closet.  Mine doesn't get much wear as I feel it is too dressy looking for my lifestyle, but I will never get rid of it because it never goes out-of-style and I will never know when I need it.

FALL

For the fall, I like to wear darker or earth-toned jackets.  Pictured above is a brown faux leather jacket.

This camel colored jacket is a great transitional piece because it's lightweight for those hotter fall days, yet the color and style scream fall.

And finally, don't be afraid to use heavy shirts as jackets.  I purchased this thick weight brown denim shirt last year, but I've never worn it as a shirt, but as a jacket!  It's too thick for me to wear as a shirt.  I just sized up to a Large so it's big and baggy to wear over anything.

I didn't list any summer jackets because "Who wears a jacket in summer?" 😁. I usually just keep a kimono, scarf, or lightweight cardigan in my purse/car for those chilly air-conditioned buildings.

What are some of your favorite coats and jackets?  Do you have a huge collection or just a couple of tried-and-true pieces?  I'd love to hear from you.

And now be sure to check out what type of outerwear the other ladies in the group are wearing and link up with us as well.

Have A Great Day!  Amy

    1. Thanks Joanne. I originally was just going to show the white coat, but then the temperatures started warming up, and I realized I have blog readers from all over the world in all different climates, so I decided to show coats for all seasons.

  4. You might laugh that I keep a denim jacket in the car and tend to wear it more in the summers for when we go inside a restaurant, LOL
Love all the variety you have.

    1. I use a kimono, scarf, or cardigan to wear in the summer for those reasons. Thanks so much.

  5. I love that you showed the different style for the different seasons! I love your white parka: I once bought one at TJMaxx and it is so warm that I have only worn it a handful of times, but I will hang on to it for snow vacation once day!

  6. This was a fun read! I love all your coats for all the seasons! I rely on my parka and jean jacket quite a bit but I love my pea coat, too! I think my favorite coat of yours is the white faux-leather one. So cute!

    1. You're the second person to say you wear your denim jacket in the summer. That material is just too stiff and unbreathable for me to wear in our hot, humid Wisconsin summers.

  8. You have sooooo many great options in different seasons! Okay, I asked if Wisconsin was cold and it looks like it is. Your white parka is stunning and I can see why you get so many compliments. It's also a very flattering shape. What a great purchase. I also love your camel colored coat that you have in the fall section, so lovely and such a great piece over a dress or for casual wear.

    1. Thanks Bo! Yes, Wisconsin is cold, but not as cold as Canada. We can get some very frigid temps, below -20 but it doesn't last long. This year we had -20 temps for over 2 weeks, but that's unusual. Our average daily winter high is probably in the 20-30 range.

  9. So many great outfits and beautiful coats/jackets! I used to have a white winter coat, sadly had to get rid of it a couple of winters ago as I couldn't get the collar as clean as I wanted to anymore and even worse, I got a tiny bit of a coffee stain right in the front of it. I got the worst of the stain out but still a bit visible so I replaced it with a black parka which is currently my go-to winter coat.
I too have many spring jackets but it seems like our spring weather is so short lived so they don't get too much wear, my favorite is a black linen jacket that looks similar to a jean jacket (somehow I never liked wearing jean jackets but this linen jacket I LOVE and I can also wear in inside restaurants in the summer). Another favorite spring jacket are a navy hooded trench for rainy weather and navy quilted spring/fall jacket. (Yes, I love the color navy :)

    1. Thank you. I have to spot clean the collar of my white jacket after every use so the makeup doesn't set. It sounds like you have a lot of great coats. I should have posted a photo of my rain jacket too. I don't think southern Illinois gets much of a cool spring. In Wisconsin, our springs are quite chilly, almost like winter.

  10. Dear Amy, you have a wonderful selection of jackets for all seasons! I like them all very much, but since I'm an autumn type, I'm most drawn to the earthier tones. My favorite is the camel-colored jacket with the cute floral dress.

  15. I am really into outwear lately. Not sure what has brought that on. But recently bought a new Eddie Bauer longer parka-type jacket. In El Paso, I don't often need something that heavy but we like to play in the snow in New Mexico most winters, so I will be using it then. I have a trench that doesn't get much wear either but like you said, they are timeless staples. And I have it for when I need it!! Love all of your options. You wear a denim jacket so well and that white faux leather jacket is just adorable. Sometimes, like you said, a long-sleeved shirt or 'shacket' can be the best best. Got to love that layering.

  16. Loved seeing your coats. The white winter jacket is stunning. I have a cream one that's very warm and it doesn't need washing as often as people think. I love your camel jacket, a very versatile piece. Thanks for linking

    1. Thank you. Yes, I never understood why people think white always gets dirty. I don't think it gets any dirtier than a dark color. Black in the winter gets horrible salt stains on it.
