How to Style a Vest with Ageless Style

Ageless Style is a monthly style challenge and link up for women of all ages.   Each month we pick a different theme and style an outfit based on that theme.  This month's theme is "Vests" and was picked by Jodie

If there is one clothing item that is really trending this season it is vests, no wonder Jodie picked this month's theme.  Vests are everywhere;  you can't step more than a few feet in any store without spotting a vest.  The funny thing is, I never really liked vests.  As someone who has always carried more weight on her top than on her bottom the last thing I need is another layer to add more bulk.  I use to have a lot of vests; mostly winter vests.  And those are great for running around in the winter when you don't want the bulk of a full winter jacket.  But I have really scaled down on the vests in my closet limiting them to just four...and then I went shopping. 😁

I went shopping with a friend in her hometown and she took me to a new boutique in Chippewa Falls Wisconsin called "The Iris Boutique".  Oh my goodness!  Did I love this boutique!  They had the cutest, most unique pieces and at very reasonable prices for a boutique.  I am wearing two pieces in this post that I bought from the boutique:  the vest and the jeans.

I had no intention of buying a brand new vest because I don't like them and they have tended to not work for me in the past, but when I saw this one I decided to try again.  I just loved how unique it was.  My favorite feature was the distinctive brown collar.

I wore this vest on a little fall hiking excursion with my hubby.  I paired it over a thick cable knit sweater and I was surprised it didn't add too much extra bulk at all.

My jeans are by Risen;  a new brand to me.  I had never heard of them before, but now I'm seeing this brand everywhere.  I LOVE these jeans.  I get compliments on them everywhere I go.  In fact, if I am feeling down one day, all I have to do is wear these jeans and someone will say something nice and lift me up. 😀 Most women tell me they love the jeans because they are not too wide.  They say they want to jump on the wide-leg trend, but most pants are too wide.  These jeans are the perfect width, and I love the length!  They don't drag on the floor and you can see my shoes.  And did I mention how comfortable they were?  Oh my gosh, I feel like I'm wearing sweatpants they are so comfy.  I cannot say enough about these jeans.

I paired my jeans with a fedora and a cross body bag because we were hiking.  I recently read on someone's Instagram post that fedoras were out and we should toss them.  Well, that may be so, but I don't wear hats for style I wear them for protection.  They protect my scalp and face from the sun.  I had two friends in my Bible Study who had skin cancer on their scalp and ears and it wasn't pretty.  So if I'm outside, my head stays covered.  I have very thin hair and I have gotten sunburn on my scalp before.

So what about you?  Do you like vests?  Have you purchased a new vest this season?  I'd love to hear from you.

Be sure to check out what the rest of the ladies in our group are wearing and link up with us as well!

  1. What a great outfit for a little hike! I love it layered with that cable knit sweater, it's the classic fall sweater weather vibe and the addition of the hat is just the cherry on top. Glad you were able to buy a few pieces that make you feel so good, I love that for you.

And this one is so fabulous, especially with the whole outfit!!!

  9. Oh I do love a good vest, Amy, and often have found myself grabbing my husband's instead of my own. Looks like he may have to get another to wear for himself!

Thanksgiving blessings to you and yours.

  10. I haven't worn vests in a long time, but I used to have a few that I really loved.
That's a really nice combo and I like the fedora goes well with it too beside being protection, but of course I never cared about what's in or out.

    1. Thank you. Wearing what you love and not caring about trends is a good way to live.

  11. I can see why you get so many compliments when wearing these jeans, they look so good on you and not as wide as some of the wide jeans around. I also love how this vest looks on you. Everything looks so balanced, absolutely perfect! And good for you for not listening to what the "trends" say when wearing your hat. Some pieces just make sense to wear whether they are trending or not. And by following some fashion blogs I've noticed what's trending one week could very well be not trending next and then just to hear them say a week later it's trending again (or so it seems!!) Who has time for that LOL!!!

    1. Thank you! That is so true about trends. And they seem to come back in style faster these days so it makes me not want to be so quick to throw things away.

  12. Forgot to say, I have never heard of Risen jeans but might be looking for them now (not that I need another pair of jeans!!) And I do have a 3 winter vests in my closet. These days my daughter has been reaching for them a few times but I haven't worn one yet this year.

  13. I remember when long vests were really popular - maybe it was the 90's or early 2000's - and I loved wearing them with my leggings. I think I only have one in my closet right now... Your's looks so cute and I love the collar and the way it matches your hat! It's the perfect fall look! I'll have to tell my sister-in-law about the boutique you visited. She lives in Menomonie and I'm guessing she'd love it!

    1. I remember those long vests too! I think I had two in my closet but I got rid of them because I didn't think they were practical for my northern climate. How cool that your sister-in-law lives in Menomonie.

  15. I didn't know that vests were trending. Sometimes the weather just calls for a vest and like you said works better than a bulky jacket at times. The whole outfit you put together looks great on you!

  16. I've always loved vests, so important for layering and keeping warm up here in the north! I have a stylish collection and am planning to do a post about the various vests I have worn on my blog. Yours looks sporty and perfect for a hike!

    Happy Thanksgiving!

    1. I haven't either, other than my winter parka vest. They are not that practical for my climate as they don't fit under a winter coat that well.
